Unzip into your HW2 folder (this is a full install so 7.4 is not needed) and add -overridebigfile to your HW2 desktop shortcut.
The aforementioned scenario may be accessed by Skirmish Vs CPU, PDS V8 Duels gametype; it is the first one listed on the map selection.

We have also decided to give PDS 8.0 a new name due to the completely different nature of the new battlespace that provides an authentic naval combat experience based on modern warfare.
You may, of course, elect to stick to V7.0 and 7.2 for its stability. Scenarios and documentation are in the works for both V7 and PDS-AS so stay tuned.
The forums you will want to look out for new information in are all presently grouped under the PDS-AS category.

And see if that DHG63 duel doesn't manage to emulate Harpoon-in-space simulator action.
Once having received adequate feedback on the new battlespace (its a full install, so get rid of V7.2, you don't need it anymore), I will tell you about all the tricks and tactics possible in this new game.

"This final feature is the main target of PDS 8.0. We are implementing a new layer to the PDS battlespace, one that hopefully allows for an optimal compromise between traditional RTS, and hardcore simulator gameplay, if not delivering two gameplay experiences at once - managing a battleship engagement literally beyond visual range by assigning targeting priorities with the sensor manager, while simultaneously directing a second front of close-action against fast attack craft and assault ships.
Simply imagine PDS now as merely a component of a larger naval engagement in the heavens. 8.0 will thus deliver a multi-spectral gameplay experience - and our main enemy here of course is CPU power. Good excuse to finally perform optimisation for PDS weaponry I say."

Limited ammunition will achieve the latter presentation, and I have a basic system to model such as munitions availability for singleplayer campaigns.
Limited ammo also allows for simulation of interesting scenarios (no heavy weapons left, what now?) and for better tactical gameplay - have the enemy BB fire off its main guns at some worthless target while you move for the kill, for example.
