The introduction of fifth generation designs onto the battlefield has had the
desired effect: increased survivability and lethality. Completely new hulls such
as the Lavi attack frigate and the accessability of allied designs has given us
additional tactical flexibility that has been well-received by our forces, and
somewhat less-so by the Taidaani and their Vagyr lapdogs.
It has been shown that in every series of modernization projects, some existing
designs will be considered "good enough".
Officers of Hiigara, this is not acceptable.
We must be ever-vigilant for opportunities to tip the balance in our favor. We
must give our brothers and sisters the tools they need to defend our home and
the allies who depend on the Navy for their continued existance. To eradicate
the Taidaani threat once and for all, the Vagyr must be obliterated. There can
be no compromise, and we can allow no boon to go unused.
"Good enough" will never be acceptable for my design teams.
In light of the Cazador's initial success, I have given final authorization for
the Bloodhound III. This task has been given to the engineering group led by
Anamehej Tesh Mueki Paktu. She led the design and implementation of the
Bloodhound's outriggers, and will make the Navy proud when her ambitious ideas
are realized. The Bloodhound III is a magnificent refit, but still retains
several limitations imposed by its aged hull design. This will be remedied, but
not on the Bloodhound III.
The Vagyr have been much quicker to employ heavier armor plating on their
"Quarinah" class battle frigate. While it is with great joy that I read after
action reports of Bloodhound/Quarinah battles, we have the more advanced
technology. We can inflict higher losses for less of our own, and we must begin
employing this technology at the earliest opportunity. We have the advantage,
and we must use it or it will be lost.
The first and arguably most important addition is inspired by the Cazador's lack
of appreciable difficulty with its fifth generation armor plating. New plating
and implementation of these new materials throughout the hull will result in
significant mass savings. The Bloodhound III will be a more graceful dogfighter
partially due to lighter armor and hull, partially from outrigger efficiency
increases.
If this alone were the only change possible, I would be pleased. But several
engineers now commanded by Anamehej Paktu were borrowed from another, nearly
complete project. Hull stress on smaller hulls has long been an issue for some
of the more violent weapon systems. Using Progenitor-derived materials advances,
several larger turrets have been getting smaller -- and seen in places unheard
of until now. Credit must be given to our Jak'sa for ensuring that project's
viability and timely completion.
The Bloodhound III will host capital-grade SRAC140 turrets as primary armament.
I will tell you now that upon consultation with our team of FB Jefet'ne, the
collective response was that the Week of Fools had come early this year. When
they finished the first simulator run, there was nearly a brawl in debriefing.
In hindsight, mention of only two available prototypes may have been the root
cause.
The success of assault ion cannon technologies cannot be overstated. In light of
this efficiency, the Gatekeeper plasma launchers will be removed and replaced
with a quad ICA180 array. Gatekeepers were a marvelously effective weapons
platform, and may yet find use elsewhere in the fleet.
Bloodhound III modernization summary:
• 5g armor is stronger, lighter; destroyer-grade plating
• Other 5g materials advances have resulted in smaller and stronger
components, namely more powerful primary and outrigger drive arrays. Drastic
increase in maneuverability.
• 2x Capital-grade SRAC140 turrets to replace existing SRAC140s.
• 4x ICA180 to replace Gatekeepers.
• HVM, MRAM2, SRAM launch capabilities will remain the same.
• Pulsar and other kinetic armaments will remain the same.
One last note. The Bloodhound series has historically been classified FB -
battle frigate, protection at the expensive of maneuverability. I believe a
redesignation of FA - attack frigate - is in order. Agility and firepower
indeed, with protection worthy of a FB.
May your enemies suffer eternally.
