I've yet to -actually- get everything running, but I'm trying to piece everything together. :smash: So far, it seems that lots of counter-measures have been added to Capital-class ships (and even lower classes!), that fighters won't go on annoying fly-bys as much, and that several new ship classes and chassis have been added. o.o Somehow, the game is more realistic by "ordering in" ships (I never figured out how the FUDGE the Banana managed to produce all that on-site). I'm curious to know what modifications have been made. I've scowered the articles, and most of the fourms, but nothing has been a clear-cut answer. (Probably because they're buried under all the updates for the various mods!) I love the idea, but I was wondering how it's all come together. And, random idea, I was wondering if a player could designate a certain ship as a "foreward flagship" I know it's silly, and might take quite a bit of coding, but just an idea. o.O Thanks!:thumb: |

Everything is pushing for more realism, making this less a casual game and more a strategic fleet simulator. Listing every single modification is pointless and would take forever, but I can tell you that every ship has been redone to fill a more realistic role in space combat. For example, fighter bombers are now a great addition and are even the crux of a well made strike group; the Arbiter (Higarran Destroyer to you) fills more of a battlefield artillery role; hypervelocity missiles, both guided and unguided, with thermonuclear warheads are now the best weapons, whereas before they were like popguns. Yes, there has been a lot added to capital ship point defenses - that's how the mod started out. v11 is trying to go its own direction, however, more towards the scenario I outlined above, and less towards simply overarming the existing vessels. Much of the 'rock-paper-scissors' Homeworld has been thrown out the window, with victory being determined by your skill as a commander, how you use your task force, and how well you protect your ass(ets). No longer is this "biggar flet wif betar big shipz winz!!111" As the new duel gametype can show you, a Vagyr carrier with two flights of bombers can take two Arbiter destroyers with ease, even though the destroyers should, by all rights, murder the carrier. As for your idea, it's not silly if there was a gametype made around it, sometime in the future. Similar to Assasination in the old Age of Empires II game - you have to kill the admiral to win, and the admiral is on the forward flagship. >w< Lovely! The "Rock-Paper-Scissors" by it's own right was complicated (in some mild ways) More so to the fact, where unless you had specific intell on the opponent, you'd be forced to build a mixed fleet anyways. I guess that cuts some of that out (though not all. Obviously some models will fair against others anyways, but perhaps the under-dog model , if used well, could power the other?) I know it's probably waaaay too long and complicated to list them, but, do you know any threads or articles that might have them? If they're too distributed, or sparce, then don't bother. Yeah, yet at the same time, the ship -would have- ordered in exsisting, battle-hardened crews and vetran, instead of the fly-out regulars. So, as such they would probably be a bit harder to "kill off". This'd be something for later mods, or possibly another game-type altogether. But, though the ship wouldn't have more health (crews don't add more plates to the hull, they are simply more skilled) it'd probably have higher accuracy than others, and be more manuverable. It'd make killing off the "admiral ship" a task in it's own right. And, if the player had any sort of smarts, he/she SHOULD have MOST of the fleet orbiting the thing, making it hard to get to anyways. Perhaps if it's made to be a "flagship-class" of that particular chassis, then it could have extra plating, finer weaponry, etc, but that'd have to be done well before it's ordered... It'd have to be a different game-type though, since, realistically, the Commanding Officer may just be sending transmitions to battle through wave-transmitions from some base elsewhere. Though, several commanders would be at the front. It all depends, really. Thanks, though! Edited by Sanu-Yasha on 05-07-2007 03:17 |
