How the heck do I destroy a Deliverance?
scutnite
I've been playing multiplayer with my friend for a while, him Hiigaran, me Vaygr, and basically, once he has a Deliverance, I'm screwed. It seems like there's no fighters/corvettes/frigates that can actually do any damage to it - if I want to have a chance, I have to have a load of my own capital ships, and it seems like it takes me a lot longer than him to get them. Am I just doing something completely wrong here, or failing to notice something?

Another thing I don't get - playing around with the duel thing, I noticed that if I have a squad of Failakas attack an escort carrier, they'll use their beam weapons, but they don't use it on the Deliverance. What's up with that?

As fun a game as PDS is to watch, there are some severe balance issues. While noticable, in PDS 7.3 as you pointed out, you can still at least win playing Vagyr - barely.

PDS 11 has far more problems. A 8000 RU Majirian destroying two Al Mou'kkars at 13,000 RU a piece being among them. The only class Vaygr seem to dominate Hiigarans with is frigates, but even if you get a swarm, complimenting capital ships, they can't do much of anything against a team of Majirians and Aggressors.

I'd really like to see the Majirian nerfed (to name one.), or at least the price doubled. If PDS is intended to be some real war simulator, where one side has ridiculous advantages and is destined to win, then I guess this works. But as an RTS, it's not that fun/challenging, unless you're playing Hiigara vs. Hiigara or Vaygr vs. Vaygr.

Mostly harmless
What you could do is do some little modifications on price and see if you can balance it yourself?

Well, actually the Majiirian has already been nerfed....alot. You shoulda seen the one I sent Tel. This was made, though, under the assumption that the ship would not be buildable.

Tristan makes a deft point regarding the difference between a wargame and an RTS. V11 is the former, so intelligently designed ships and weapons score much better than expensive and inefficient/unreliable systems.

A combined massdriver-guided missile system is a powerful barraging weapon that unlike 'dumb' shells, are capable of intercepting targets under evasive action.

Compared to the Vaygr trend of concentrating on fusion beam/cannon technology, the 'SBAs' on the Hiigaran BBH deals crippling damage regardless of range to target, wheras fusion cannons are only truly effective at short range. The gun-missile hybrid system is thus the more 'intelligent' and 'capable' design right now.

The direction of V11 as a war simulator is exactly why I want TFS in the PDS dev't picture. However our base of intellectual property must be respected in the effort...

A deliverence is definitely not invincible. However, it does take a fair amount of time and resources to bring it down. I think the sides are quite well balanced in 7.3.2. While on the outset it might look like the HGN is immensely powerful, all their ships have one huge weakness. Subsystems. All their primary weapon mounts are on subsystems.

So you could turn those three advancing Arbiter class cruisers into floating targets just dying to be popped with a meager wing of a few saracens. Kill the arbiter cannons with the saracens, and focus some missile corvettes on the engine to knock out the pds lasers there. Then go to town with any ship your little heart desires. Same goes for their super capital ships. DO NOT charge an Al Khalid into a straight fight with the Deliverence because it will get smacked. However do charge in a wing of pioneers to draw off its pds grid, follow it up with failakas to get it sweating and then polish it off with a heavy frigate wing flying in formation. Once you have the failakas in there, you can have an AlKhalid or a missile frigate wing provide fire support. The Arelian Defender, the Prince of Hiigara and the Islander Shah are complete jokes if you knock out their main weapons, which doesnt take much. Its cake once you get the hang of it.

So it basically comes down to micromanaging. If you're playing Vaygr and bandbox target an advancing Hiigaran fleet, you will die a very quick death.

And what Tel said is true, the sides aren't perfectly balanced. It is a wargame. Look the US military in the real world. Anyone who wants a straight scrap with us will lose. But there are ways to win. Think about what happened in the Vietnam War. Unconventional warfare. Thats what the Vaygr is about. Hit and run, guerilla tactics. The Vaygr capital ships cannot stand their ground against Hiigaran equivalents on their own.
