 So, Where To Start?

First time poster, long time HW fan and player. Someone posted a link to a Youtube video of this mod, and it's got me interested. I've managed to master HW2 and want to try something new, and this mod seems like the ticket. Problem is, I don't know where to start. There are numerous version numbers that it's kinda confusing. To start off with this mod, where would be the best place to start? Madness surrounds me like a storm, but I am its calm eye...

Oh, and just to make sure I cover my butt and don't sound like a complete noob, I have read about each version that's currently available and what's in the works. Which is why I'm confused as to which one I should start with, since there are so many to choose from.

Well, 7.3.2 is the most recent version (not counting the Beta versions of v11) and would be reccomended. Though some things to remember. 1: There have been some major bugs related to several Hiigaran frigates, so you will probably have to download the small patches bu Sun Tzu in the 7.3.2 available thread. Just search through and you'll find them. 2: If you want to play the full HW2 singleplayer campaign reworked by the PDS team, then v6.1 is for you. The campaign in 7.0 onwards is trimmed down to the first 5 missions. When v11 comes out, then we should have reworked the whole thing. 3: PDS is nothing like stock HW2. There are a number of tactical errors made by veteran HW2 players when switching to PDS. If you're getting wtfpwned in any version or just need tips on how things work. Feel free to post in one of the existing threads or create a new one. You could also try looking through the PDS tactics and doctrane fourm, downloading the Hiigaran Navy tactical manual (which is for PDS v6.1, but most of the same principals apply to 7.3.2). This is available in the downloads section of this site. 4: If PDS is feeling a little dull, why not visit the Chronicals of War section of this site. There you can read the interesting fanfictions and battle AARs written by the various denizens of this site, or write your own. There's also the Port of Nalthor section of the site where we discuss technical roleplay, fluff about ships, races, events, and other random stuff in the PDS universe. |
