15th fleet tactical strike.
Silent_Assasin
Hi everyone. Considering I have a little bit of time on my hands before school starts back up again, I decided last night to write a small narrative. The narrative involves a tactical strike against a VMF fleet carrier stationed near the outskirts of the Vaygr reaches; an advance warning outpost shall we say.

The logistics and the general strategy that was laid out by the 15th fleet admiral.

Intelligence reports indicate that a loyalist fleet carrier is stationed at local grid A8 of grid G6. Hyperspace scans has indicated regular activity in the form of a heavy transport ship that comes in once a month. It is going to be there in exactly nine days from today. The 15th fleet is going to take this opportunity to kill two birds in one stone as they plan to neutralize the merchant convoy as well as vaporize the fleet carrier. A spy within the VMF tactical command Charlie has reported that there is one Spahi class assault frigate that has been seen patrolling nearby with no other escorts. The carrier is of course going to house strike craft but we plan to strike hard and fast and disable that son of a bitch before it gets a chance to launch any strike craft. Upon the admirals personal request, the heavy thunderbolts have been stripped of a pair of ICs for heavy HVR launchers. Along with those carried by the Blades, it?ll be a massacre. And should a squadron of those worthless pioneers leak out, our pilots will see to it.

Assault formation is being spearheaded by a 15th fleet Deliverance class battle carrier and supporting craft. Escorts include three Bloodhound class frigates to provide close perimeter defense along with two Nightingale class FFEs. An arbiter fleet cruiser is going to act as the rearguard. This assault group is to standby outside passive sensor range of the VMF carrier. The actual strike is going to carried out exclusively by strike craft.

Strike formation housed within the battle carrier consists of two squadrons of Lavi class light frigates for heavy anti-corvette defense. Eight squadrons of Blade22 interceptors are to actively escort the three squadrons of heavy bombers. A sensor disruption probe will be fired to maximize the surprise. Additional SD probes will be available on upon request of Juliet flight leader Major Cunningham as he sees fit.

Make note that at this point in the war, losses are unacceptable. The 15th fleet is under scrutiny after the failure of its last two assignment. Not a single Blade must be lost. This is a tactical strike, not a war of attrition. History has proven that that is one war we cannot win with the Vaygr.

After the briefing of squadron leaders
Time: 1130 galactic standard time. Day 0.
Location: Aboard 15th fleet Empress class fleet command station. Hiigara high orbit.

The strike craft squadrons leaders have just been dismissed after an extensive briefing upon the execution requirements of the strike formation. Major Cunningham, a 46 year old veteran, is to lead the Lavi escort squadron. Cunningham is soft spoken man who is extremely cautious. How can one not be after experience the horrors of wars that he has been through. Most say that he is actually cautious to a fault. He is an accomplished pilot who everyone looks up to as a father figure. Major Eckstein, who is leading the Blade escort squadron, on the other hand, is the complete opposite; a loud mouthed 29 year old irascible oddball. Eckstein is considered a flight prodigy. How he acquired the reflexes he shows off, no one knows. What everyone does know, however, that he is one man you want to be covering your ass as nothing gets away once he has them in his sights. The man leading the Thunderbolt squadrons is Major Grumen. Put simply, he is a ladies man. As much as this 34 year old playboy is loathed by the generals, he is an excellent pilot who always completes his mission directives. The unfortunate, or maybe fortunate depending on how old you are, side effect of having this man around is the throng of pretty girls that always seem to try to follow him around everywhere. He also has an annoying tendency to show off when it?s really not required.

?Hey old man, what say you join me and Ecky here for a few drinks down at the bar.?
Cunningham mused over it for a bit. He has been very disturbed by what was presented to him in the briefing and was planning on going over it in private back in his room.
?Grumen, I need to digest this briefing and I don?t believe that vodka?s going to help much in the process.
?Nonsense Cunningham, you are not about to leave me stranded here with Grumen.?
?Stranded? That?s a bit strong now isn?t it Ecky??
?Stop calling me that you airhead, and no I believe stranded is an understatement.?
?Oh so I?m an airhead now huh? When was the last time you got laid Mr. Eckstein??
?I ? it was ? it?s none of your business. Anyway I out flied you during the last little demo. I bet your girls loved to see that.?
?Alright, stop bickering you idiots. I?ll come.?

After a few drinks, quite a few for Gruman, everyone was starting to get into a lighter mood; that is everyone except for Cunningham.
?Cunningham, you look worried. What?s wrong??
?I don?t know Eckstein. I have a bad feeling about this one.?
Grumen groaned inwardly, here we go again with the little possible snags.
?You always have bad feelings old man.?
?Maybe, but that?s why I?m still alive in my opinion. But anyways, this mission plan reeks.?
Eckstein who has always held Cunningham?s opinions in high regard felt the whiskey churn in his stomach. He thought the plan was perfect.
?I unfortunately have to agree with Grumen this time, I don?t see anything wrong with the strike.?
?Well, yes the mission plan is fine I must admit, but the situation just seems wrong.?
?What do you mean??
?Well shit, do you think the VMF is just going to have a carrier loitering about all by its lonesome??
?Well it does have a Spahi class covering it??
?Don?t be thick Eckstein. You know damn well that two squads of your Blades will eat that thing alive. Its just not enough. Its almost like they are baiting us.?
Maybe so Gruman thought, but this old fart is missing one crucial piece.
?Cunningham, the spy within the VMF?s TACCOM. He verified our intel.?
?Well what if he decided to stop helping us? Its possible that the Vaygr discovered his intent to defect and this juicy little piece of information might just have saved his neck.?
Gruman had had enough at this point.
?You and your conspiracy theories Cunningham, just accept the fact that the carrier is a big, fat, happy target. Why does everything have to be hard?? Gruman yelled getting up. ?I?ve enough of this, I?ll see you two on the flight deck tomorrow.?
Eckstein murmured an apology about being late for inspections and followed Gruman out. Cunningham was expecting Gruman?s reaction. He couldn?t be blamed either. The 15th fleet has been in some rough waters lately with consecutive failed strikes. Funding was in the gutters and the pressure was on them to make something happen. In his experience, Cunningham knew that making something happen was easy enough; the hard part was staying alive after that something had happened. He finished his drink and asked for another one. Maybe Gruman has it right he thought, I worry too much.

More to come...

Good, except for the one issue of the character's names sound too... Earthly. Not at all like the ethnic Hiigaran names that have been said in the past. Think Jewish or near eastern as opposed to the more American naming convention seen here.

Aside from that one thing, you are doing very well. In fact, if you get the chance, Parhaps you could assist in the fourm RP that I'm doing (The Second Dustwars)

I see. I'll keep that in mind. Thanks.

I'll love to help you out with The Second Dust Wars.
