I have been playing PDS v7.3 and have been doing pretty well at it, but I have an issue. I loose a lot of frigates in most of my battles compared to the other ships. I mainly loose the fighter frigates (Blood Hounds), but that is a result of them beeing more agile and less armored. I was wondering if there was some secret to saving them from distruction while still using them effectively? Also, I try and screen them with fighters and move my capital ships in to pull a lot of fire, but it doesn't do much good. Thanks for the info. |

If you love frigs, play Vaygr! They're more resilient, cheaper and either more versatile or more powerful than their hiig counterparts.

Frigates are a heavy cavalry force in my battles, send in the fighters to draw off the enemy fighters, pin his cap ships with your own and then flank with Frigates. They're not capable of going toe to toe with a larger ship even when they outnumber it. |

I usually use frigates as fleet auxiliaries. I attach assault or escort frigates to my capital division, and sometimes use escort or battle frigates to tie up enemy fighter formations. In certain instances, I can also use them as a feign assault a few seconds before a capital assault. The enemy will waste their first volley of missiles on the frigates while my own have a better chance of inflicting hits. As for Bloodhounds...I like to use them as skirmishers. They have problems fighting capital ships, but, while not being an effective strike craft deterrent, can tie up strike craft while escort frigates or reinforcing strike craft can come in and take care of the bandits. |

Hiigaran frigates aren't as powerful as you might believe; treat them as heavy corvettes. As for the vaygr, I can only say heavy missile frigates will dominate in groups larger than 12. |

Think of a Bloodhound FB like a shark, it can be far beyond deadly and strike like lightning, but it has to move to stay alive. Ya know what I'm saying? |

I love playing the vaygr so I can only give you concrete strategies on them. And there is only one strategy I consider viable with the frigates. That is to rush in the Type III-C Ansaar FG (Heavy missile frigate) to pound the cap ships and disable them. And then hyperspace in the fleet and go to town. By the way I went and replaced the Al-Khalid with the Titan of Fire from v6.1 (updated hitpoints of course). The repeating central laser doesn't even scratch cap ships but is lethal to frigates. And it spams missiles like there is no tomorrow to the point where it decimates cap ships after the second volley because the ciws cant keep up. Fun times. As the old saying from stock HW2 goes, frigates are best served fried. It is thus up to the frigate commander to prove that this statement is false ![]() |
