About the new duel gametype
Sun Tzu
This is to provide background info about it following Ironwatsas questions.

The core of the script is a set of UI screens and an associated gamerule. Basically it is a somewhat ugly hack to get around the limitations of the UI stuff (no command to determine what item is selected, mystery of passing variables from UI to gamerules).

It is extremely easy to make it compatible with other PDS versions. You just need to change the data:script/ShipList.lua table on the basis of the data:script/building and research/ tables.

Enabling selection of more than three squadrons for two players is possible but would be a pain. The ugliness of the hack implies to create of a lot of tables and screens in the ui files. Adding one slot would mean creating 2 more screens with 6 tables etc.

Using it to spawn pre-set task groups or division is possible, provided you change the gamerule. Currently it checks what ship was selected and spawn it; it can be changed to spawn a group of ships without too much work.

As for varying by map, it is not meant for that. I made this gametype precisely to relieve the somewhat tedious task of changing level files 'by hand'.

Good to know, thanks for the details.

As it seems simple enough to execute, I'm sure interested parties may convert and re-release your custom gametype for use with other PDS evolutions by themselves.
