One thing I've always wanted in PDS is some sort of 'Escort Carrier', a realtively cheap, heavily armored vessel that could carry strikecraft but had no production capability. Perhaps a ship the size of a large frigate or destroyer, equipped with a wide variety of weapons and reasonable speed. For one, it would be more displosable than a carrier, and could be used to carry strikecraft on strikes into hostile territory without risking an expensive production vessel. Also, in fluff, could be used as a solution for convoy escorts- use an escort carrier as a base for fighters instead of wasting frigates or an actual carrier on escorting. Not sure if this would be redundant with previous designs - what do you think?

The upcoming Marquess-class CVA would fill out these functions quite well. |

EDIT - scratch all that! I just consulted with my staff, and we are developing the Marquess class CVE which will fill in the role of a WW2 escort carrier. The project team will be Thorin and Daniel Hawking. Edited by TelQuessir on 15-09-2005 08:00 |

A CVA sounds quite good to me. Keep up the excellent work on PDS!!

Wait, I'm confused. Both CVA and CVE has been called Marquess, hmm, maybe CVE is a diffrend armed version of CVA? There will be two class (CVA and CVE) or only one(CVE) ??? |

The CVA version of the Marquess is geared towards combat with primary armaments suited to this role, the CVE varient will possibly have less direct firepower and more defensive weapons and aren't meant to be in direct battle as they are second rate warships well at least that is my understanding of the WW2 CVEs.
I feel like a one legged man in an ASS kickin' contest!

Not quite. on historical accuracy, anyway. WW2 CVEs were converted old cruisers that were nothing but a second rate carrier. The CVE configuration of the Marquess will be configured for escort duty. Instead of being armed wholy with big bruising weapons, it will concentrate on a powerful point defense, as paladin1 said. |

In essence, CVA - anti-capital, CVE - anti-strike craft. But by no means use the CVA against a fully fledged cruiser alone - use the strike craft to our advantage! Constant vigilance! EDIT: I guess you could call it Marquess-Alpha and Marquess-Beta. Alpha being the CVA and Beta being the CVE. Edited by MarieHawke on 15-09-2005 20:37 |

Hiigaran CVA has been fully operational for some time now. CVA was also developed first to fill in the Navy's offensive fleet requirements. I expect to see some facts of reality here. EDIT: Or play the beta v7 more
