PDS+Warlords Cooperation Q-A Thread
Ironwatsas
Enclosed is a discussion of the finer details of the PDS/Warlords co-op.

My first questions are:

1: What are the terms of the agreement and its effects on PDS in gameplay and storyline?

2: Are any persons from the Warlords team going to be involved with PDS? (HOD Jockeys?)

3: Why has'nt this happened before or with any other mods? (not including ones already affiliated)

Please, press the issue.

To answer question one, below is a declassified recent PM to evillejedi:

For Qn. 3, it's because they're not PDS and they're not named TelQuessir Pfft

Excellent that we seem to be operating on the same palette - I was a hardcore Star Wars fan in my school days.

I made incredible progress last night, overhauling the flight model and AI of about 10 ships. Combat is really now book/movie style with a fine balance of automated maneuvering and the ability to manual-fly ships.

Without the need to play with anti missile defenses I also can let players use click attack orders. This makes command and control a dream.

Fighters right now fight similarly to the X-Wing Alliance gameplay and are balanced on that plus some movie visuals.

Well I should be able to upload it this weekend. Believe me, you will be blown away at the new presentation Smile

Presently the largest operational ship I have is the MC80 whose flight model is based on one of the books in which I believe, Wedge Antilles was in one that went up against multiple VSDs and won by a war of maneuver to target the Imperials' weak spots.

I've also upped the rate of fire of lasers and tweaked defense and offense values of ships for the movie look. It's bloody fun to see fighters charging through turbolaser broadsides and for capital ships to maneuver to get on each other's 6.

Weapon ranges - presently, capital proton torpedo launchers may fire at 15km but enemy AI can evade it if it is coming from so far away (but when firing head on missile intercept envelope increases accordingly like in RL - eg. MC80 breaks off head on pass to evade VSD missile salvoes then returns fire with own torpedoes, VSD missiles run out of juice on tail chase but VSDs run into MC80 salvo).

For the primary turbolasers of cruisers (not done the superheavies yet) they're divided between long range (22-28km) and secondary (15-19km)

Present converted shiplist:

Imperials

TIE Fighter
TIE Bomber
Corellian Corvette
Carrack
Strike Cruiser
Victory I (minus broadside missiles, intended to be stock old ship)

Alliance

X-Wing
Y-Wing
Corellian Corvette
Bulk Cruiser (which when desperate, overruns enemy frigates)
MC80

Corvettes and cruisers are meant to be fast skirmishing and scouting units while the Victory, bulk cruiser and MC80 use the small capital ship flight model I have (obviously, less maneuverable)

Ships' durability are balanced for optimal combat presentation (movie/book style, in other words) and tested in mission conditions.

Okay, that's all for now! Will drop PMs once I get more stuff done later in the week.

Additionally eville and myself will pursue the following gametypes:

1. Blockade Run

Get to X position through enemy patrols

2. Star system operations

Using scaled-down planet models to depict strategic maneuvers on the star system level, like in 7.6 and 9.0 concepts.

What about PDS vs Star Wars scenarios?

What's the deal with that?

Gang - you have to look at this as a strategic move. While Tel is working with Eviljedi we will gain access I hope to many of the marvelous capabilities that are resident in the SW Mod. The convoy effort alone has been long sought in PDS. The potential for different planets and backgrounds will also add a level of quality.

From my perspective this semi-hiatus by Tel to work with Eviljedi will be very postivie for our mod down the road. With this and work with the Dustwar team on the Taiidan we have tremendous opportunity coming down the road.

What can I do to help? Preferably something along the lines of short stories and technical RP.

Short stories would be absolutely great since my (admittedly, I favour the Rebels and their tactical innovations) capital ship AIs and missions are loosely based off the Star Wars books.

However you need to wait till I release this on Sunday, first.

The MC80 for instance flies like the one commanded for a short time by Wedge Antilles.

Imperial fans should fall in love with a planned scenario that mimics Grand Admiral Thrawn's usage of cloaked ISDs in tractoring an asteroid into a planetary target.

As for the convoy effort - yasotay is absolutely correct, but we see that the key ingredient here is the ability to maintain tight communications lines and more importantly, the technique of creating compromises in individual differences without loss of quality.

Without these two tenets of "long range" operations we either see coalitions breaking apart, or release products turning out below standard. I'm all too familiar with the latter from my Army days as military psychologist.

With the very warm reception the project intro received in the Relic Boards, it seems this is here to stay and not just remain in Warlords 0.45 - I intend to follow on with Eville's newer and more efficiently coded ships as well, then we can talk about PDS-Warlords-Progenitors- and whatever else grand-strategic affairs.

It seems we have stumbled on the perfect way to increase the lifespan of the HW2 engine, gentlemen! We all love big TCs and so do I - what if we accelerated the development of such a concept by a convoy action instead of us with all our great ideas going our own way?

So shall I rename the website to "United States of PDS"? Pfft
