(Name not perminant) Skipper's Log, Stardate 165.73 FCI (After Federation of Cush Independence) Okay, I'm all registered into the ship's computers. Hello, skippers of the future! How ironic is it that this fine vessel's first commander is a Leutenant, huh? Not a happy one, either. Considering this vessel is already behind schedule, I'll probably take the fall for it when we arrive at the Hiigaran outpost (probablyh the real reason they stuck me with this job). Admiralty never did like me, anyway. Probably the only reason I've been this same rank for as many years as I have been, even with my scores and experience. Enough about that. After some boring complications during rearmament on the fringe of Federation space, undocking was largely uneventful, other than misplaced personnel which ultimately ended with me taking the position as skipper during the transit through safe space to Outpost HN108. The first jump was successful and everything works correctly. Engineering was able to employ the transit time during hyperspace to machine the few attachments needed to correct for metric conflicts between Cush flight deck probes and couplers with the Hiigaran and the few Hiigaran corvettes that were lent to us at the refitting shipyard. They are mighty impressive, I must say. Lots of firepower for such a small frame. I have to admit that I feel sorry for Lavi II skippers that have to deal with the tiny docking bays that Hiigarans use. It certainly limits how many they can handle at one time. The skeleton crew that I'm dealing with isn't very helpful. I'll see if I can whip up something of a crew from them in the months before we arrive at the outpost. Should be fun. Well, I'm going to retire to bed, now. I do like this Hiigaran artificial gravity. It makes for a remarkably normal bed. Leutenant Hans Stein, signing off. Edited by Thorin on 16-05-2006 06:36 |

Very nice first post. See, the journal perspective works wonders for starters - I'll brief you on the stuff that a Hadat'ne should need to know, and even drop in if you put in regular input. |

Nothing much to report. We have made three successful and unexciting jumps. To pass the time, we have been running simulations and drills involving our combat shuttles. I'm still admittedly rather enamoured over how they got something so heavily armed to fit onto a carrier deck. Heck, it boggles the mind at what they can do with a full Cush hangar of them, which is about 6. However, there are a few disappointing parts to it. The maglevs on the hangar deck werent designed for anything half as massive as these were. The maglevs can handle it, but only when they strain. The engineers are thinking that they might have to be replaced with stronger ones when we get to the outpost, because apparently keeping them at this level of power about halves their lifetime due to increased wear. Even half their lifetime, however, it more than plenty for the mere few months to the outpost, though, so it is of little immediate concern. A few extra megawatts is nothing our power plants can't easily scoff at, but it is a little inconvenient that they can't land. Crew-wise, I think the drills are helping them work better as a team. Although, one of the tactical people has been looking at me strangely since he read my file. I guess he finds my trouble with the Admiralty interesting. It's okay, I'm over it. Leutenant Hans Stein, signing off. |

It has been a bad month. First, I have a private meeting with that tactical officer, Rudolf Hassein. Although such meetings may not have been so unusual on a regular assignment, with high crew density and tension, this relatively boring mission with sparse population gave the meeting before it started a very...suspicious air to it. It turns out that Rudolf wanted to try to convince me to turn the vessel rogue, and use my supposed hate for the Admiralty and the nation as an edge. To his great disappointment, I bear no such malice (though Admiralty could honestly be a little nicer), and explained to him calmly the implications of his actions. Judging by his disposition and composure, I have a pretty good idea that he is sociopathic. Instead of having him killed, I'm having him confined to quarters until we get to the outpost. I posted one of the few marines we have in front of his door. When we get there, he'll go home with the dispatch to take advantage of FC's rather less lethal concequences with this sort of behavior. He'll probably go to the rehab center on Byss. A little later, a minor defect in some of the cables on the hangar deck lead to a fire in the cables and a failure in one of the maglevs. It was lucky that the combat shuttle on that pad didn't have booster pods on its flanks, so we only lost two drones when it emergency landed on the decksole. I'm having the flight engeneers reevaluate all the wires and bring in high-yield carbon cables in to replace the existing wires. One can only hope this marks the low point for the voyage. The last thing we need is a raider attack. Leutenant Hans Stein, signing off. Edited by Thorin on 19-05-2006 06:03 |
