This thread is just what it sounds like. An archive (or graveyard) for random, short outbursts of roleplaying genius or a deposit box of ideas and technical crap in a documentary style telling. Stories should be fairly short. I'm not going to put a limit on how short but less than 50,000 words is appricated. All fluff must be based on HW/PDS and be limited to one post. |

A recent segment from Talbock's Patrol - The Imperial Taiidan battle against Itaar and Kush had gone as well as one could expect when ones plan actually meets with reality. Itaar space was firmly under Imperial control and the efforts of the Kush Confederation had tapered off from the initial counterattack in the weeks after the invasion. Primus Gentierian Secundus had to admire the tenacity of the enemy. A part of him had hoped that many of the Kush would return to the fold of the Imperium without fighting. Another part of him was glad for the continued fight; they were after all Taiidan. He reveled in the excitement and fear of the battle, and was relieved, for the break in the tedium of establishing a new government in Itaarian space. This was the first attack in well over a ships month. This one seemed more like a serious raiding foray, with three Elyssian design light cruisers escorted by a large force of frigates mostly of older Hiigaran design. Underestimating the capability of Elyssian cruisers would be very dangerous for the Taiidan, even if not top of the line models. The display in front of him showed that the Kush had made the mistake of separating their heavy and light units. The frigates were running as hard as they could for a clear jump, while the cruiser hung back as if trying to make up their minds as to what to do next. Gentierian had given his light squadron commander permission to chase down the frigates while he maneuvered his heavier units to deal with the Kush cruisers. Since they had begun combat operations, the Primus had become much more willing to allow his subordinates free reign to execute his orders. He had spent much time culling out those who could not deal with the real business of battle. It was a chance he had taken as an iron grip in peace often meant subordinates not willing to think for themselves. As he watched, the data play out in front of him he watched his frigate group accelerate on an intercept vector toward the running Kush ships. Staying clear of the range of the enemy cruisers weapons they would intercept before his battlecruisers could engage. ?Warning! Weapons separation!? the sudden strident voice of one of the tactical officers jolted the Primus from his thoughts. ?Confirm!? he shot back over the same communications channel. ?Impossible. We are well outside the weapon range of the Kush.? He thought to himself. Even as he considered the notion, his tactical display blossomed with the weapons streaking out from the three cruisers. The vector data showed that they where all headed toward the frigate force chasing the Kush light units. ?Weapon separation confirmed Primus. Twenty-one systems on intercept course for Sigma group.? The tactical officer had answered in a neutral tone, knowing that this should not be happening. Even as he responded, he worked feverishly to try to get answers. Unfortunately, his tactical problem became more complicated as at least as many missiles suddenly appeared from the lighter Kush units and began streaking back toward the pursuing Taiidan ships. At the same time, the electronic countermeasures of the Kush changed and the data on the location of their ships suddenly changed from locked locations to teardrops that gave probable vectors for the ships. ?Sir? ?I see it.? Gentierian growled. He balled his fist and focused on staying calm. The Kush had gotten a serious upgrade in capability since they had last attacked. The parity in ranged weapons now seemed to have gone over to the Kush and their electronics where even more impressive. As he watched his frigate group split up into a starburst. By separating out the attacking missiles would have to begin diverging toward the maneuvering targets. Working in pairs the frigates defensive systems would be able to develop solutions for the incoming missiles more quickly than if they had stayed in closer proximity to each other. ?Primus, the weapons system associate indicates a seventy-eight percent probability that the missiles are Hiigaran Type M, pulse homing class. The associate also indicates that the electronic countermeasures are consistent with Hiigaran types.? The tactical officer was looking at the Primus with an expression of dread. Type M weapons were large enough to take out a frigate with a single hit. There where twice as many missiles as there was frigates now accelerating for their very lives. His battlecrusiers would not be in range to intervene before the end of the engagement. ?Hiigaran missiles and countermeasures; that explained why there had not been any attacks for over a month. So, the damned Bellimid had come to the aid of their beleaguered friends.? He considered informing the leader of Sigma group but knew that he was far more concerned with other things now. As he watched the ships began working through a hard pull to alter their vector and provide more time to the intercept for the defensive systems to try and kill the inbound missiles. ?The missiles have gone active!? The tactical officer was not able to keep the excitement out of his voice. The attacking missiles suddenly made a course correction. All of the missile vectors now showed that they where focusing on just four of the small subgroups. As if that was not enough, another alarm went off. ?N-space sequence Sir! The targets are leaving.? ?Targets, seemed to be a poor choice of a descriptor considering the circumstances? Secundus thought as he watched the Kush flotilla slip out of normal space in a hyperspace jump. He felt a very hard lump in his stomach as he realized, far too late, that he was on the receiving end of an expertly planned ambush. ?The game has changed.? As if to punctuate his thought, the missiles started reaching the desperate frigates. The defensive systems did the best they could but the missiles themselves had an onboard countermeasure package to confuse them. First one frigate data field on the tactical screen went blank, then another, and another. |

Actually Talbock and his Hiigaran Raiding Patrol have been bouncing around behind the Vaygr lines for over a year now. Meanwhile other things have gone on around the PDS'verse... 175 pages and he is still not home. |

But where do I go to be able to read up on what Talbock and his patrol have been doing? I need to know, and you know how I get when I'm deprived of information. |

>.> <.< I'll be starting a log-style prequel series today or tomorrow. It's going to be about a skeleton crew transfering an allied war ship to an outpost, and go from there. |

Kassi, The witches of the North Even the name Kassi invokes fear and discontent among the free people of Elyassia. Tonight we have a special report on this menace that has been plagueing our trade lanes and costing millions of Lenk in damages, not to mention the massive loss of life. At least 3000 military and police personell have been killed in the line of duty, and over 4500 civilians are rumored to have gone missing in the northern trade routes. The Navy, Police, Border patrol, and Customs agency patrol the northern trade routes between Gondora and Dresdene. This vital route has seen the most Kassi activity of anywhere else in our space. Most of this is centered in the Kassiigrad ice belt, which the primary trade route runs through. EFNN has recently interviewed two people connected with the Kassi and has gained new insight in their inner workings and possible motives, our first interview was with EFSN comissar Galari Kitracovich who stated; "Our presence in the north is very moderate, Just three frigate squadrons and an auxilury carrier. We usually patrol the Myrska passage and the area around the Hulk. Our base in the area is just a repurposed pirate shipyard not meant for heavy combat. The Kassi usually hit several transports at once in diffrent places or even attack our patrols outright. How they can communicate through the icetroid nebula without us picking up their chatter is a mystery, but we have deployed Nebulance bouys to give some early warning. Although even if we can intercept their patrols before they hit a convoy, they have better ships and travel in greater numbers than we can counter with our limited resources. We don't know why the Kassi are hitting our convoys out here, they Don't take any cargo and don't hit frequently enough to disrupt trade, but they are very thourogh in destroying everything and everyone they encounter. The few Kassi we've captured have either refused to talk or commited suicide. In short, public and military support is in short supply, and the Kassi are growing bolder by the day. I don't know how long we can last out here." After interviewing Mr Kitracovich, EFNN obtained several Declassified military documents which pointed to the fact that the Kassi may be prepairing a massive invasion of the Elyassian motherland. Our second interview was with famous Hiigaran bounty hunter Seg Tambuur, who reportedly fought a Kassi soldier hand to hand and gave us some insight into their inner workings. Mr Tambuur stated; "The Kassi? Well I would'nt call them freindly neighbors. What I've managed to gather about their culture is all second hand from unrelible sources, but the near exact similarity these claims lead me to belive there is some truth. From what I understand, the Kassi are very agressive and xenophobic. They view all outsiders as hostile and follow a strict religious code in daily life. The Kassi being described as a female dominated society would be a massive understatement. All male Kassi are suquestered away from mainstream society and probably used only for reproduction and manual labor. The gender distinction also applies to any outsiders that the Kassi don't kill outright, as they will have nothing to do with anyone that has any males present. The reasons for this are beyond me but it may have something to do with religous beliefs." "I encountered a Kassi during a mission to recover an experamental power coil from an old cargo ship near Cruik. When I found the ship, it was damaged but life support was functioning. I initally assumed Raiders hit the ship and boarded to access the situation. The first thing I noticed was a small shuttle docked with the ship. It was not a design I was farmiliar with but I Did'nt give it much thought. Immedietly after I landed, I noticed evedence of a firefight, and as I walked on I saw that most of the crew were dead. By that time, I knew this was not the work of Raiders. Most pirates take prisoners to sell as slaves or ransom back. This looked more like the aggressors intent was to kill the crew. As I came to the bridge, I noticed something moving in the shadows. Assuming It was one of the crew, I called out and offered assistance. Immedietly, the woman lept out at me with a short sword. I deflected the blow with my wristblades but she kept striking relentlessly. Despite my attempts to find out why she was attacking, the Kassi warrior continued to batter me with her blade. The fight continued until the automated damage control PA announced a reactor breach. I immedietly tried to get to my ship, but the Kassi seemed more intent on killing me than her own saftey. That changed when the main coolant tank ruptured and the two of us ran like hell back to our ships. I managed to launch in time and escape the blast, unfortunatly so did the Kassi. We exchanged fire as I spun up my hyperdrive. She got a few good hits on my left engine cowling and I later found out that she jammed up one of my thruster foscusing irises. Even with my years of military service and Sobanii hand to hand combat training, I was no match for this one small Kassi warrior. And if this is any indacation as to the state of the rest of the Kassi military, anyone who goes up against a Kassi warrior hand to hand is going to be skinned alive. I learned enough in that one fight to stay the hell as far away from the Kassi as humanly possible." The intentions of the Kassi are still unclear, but their obvious hostility is a sign that this problem will not go away on it's own. One final word of advice, if you encounter a Kassi, go the other way as fast as you can. This has been Jenna Pokolovich, EFNN |

There is another story potential in the Ravinder Exile Fleet with the recent refit of the stranded and interned Kassi mercenary carrier Alyssa Silvermane which sought asylum against Elyssian Navy pursuit by flying into REF controlled space. Now pressed into service as the REF's second GCV type assault carrier word is that she was deployed with her original crew and commander in the invasion of Ravinder... |

Battle raged over the gas giand Kiaari Sephr as the Federation of Cush 32nd Orbital Defence Battalion was ambushed by a Kassi agressor fleet. The Kassi appeared suicidally determined to destroy the Cush fleet and the small agricultural facilities in orbit. The Kassi fleet was lead by a group of Frigates and strikecraft while the Cush fleet was built around three Selangor II orbital defence ships and a Cheiftan class carrier. The Kassi frigates broke away from each other and fired a salvo of long range missiles. While most of these were intercepted by Cush CIWS, one managed to hit the FCNS Kingdom's End knocking one of the Arbiter II Railguns clear off it's mounting. The Cush fleet returned fire with HVMs and HVTs, but the Kassi Frigates effortlessly destroyed the incoming ordanace. The Cush responded by sending forward their Frigates and strikecraft. The three Lothringens in the forward group began firing MRAMs into the lead Kassi frigate, but all of the missiles fired detonated prematurely. The Cush frigate fired it's main ion cannon which gutted the Kassi frigate from stem to stern. The Kassi escort fighters broke off and began attacking the Cush interceptors and frigates. One flight moved to attack the Lothringen that destroyed their lead FF. The Kassi opened fire with small cluster missiles which did little damage, and turned for another pass. But before they could bring their heavy weapons to bear, they were cut down by a salvo of HVR150s from one of the Dervish IIIs passing nearby. Another wing of Kassi Fighters tried to break through the Cush fighter screen but were herded into a corner by an echalon of Khopesh Gunships and seemed to be on the ropes, but to the awe and horror of the corvette screen, the remaining Kassi fighters fired their homing magneto missiles in unison, destroying the Khopeshes before their crews could even scream. The Kassi then broke formation and went twoard a flight of Falconet heavy bombers. The slow, unmanuverable bombers were picked off one by one as the Kassi closed to gun range and unloaded their superrepeating massdrivers and magneto missile banks. While the Kassi fighter screen was breaking through the Cush fighters and Corvettes, the frigates were on their last legs. While their magneto missiles and energy cannons had forced the gunship frigates and multibeam vessels into retreat, the Lothringens, with their long range ion cannons, had picked off the Kassi battle frigates one by one. The Lead Kassi frigate pulled into a cartwheeling immelman straight toward the lead Ion frigate, but was blindsided by a stream of whitehot plasma ions. The Kassi frigate responded by firing a 225mm energy torpedo, which despite the barrage of CIWS put up by the Lothringen and it's Gladius escorts, slammed into the frigate and destroying it instantly. The remaing ion frigates were taken out one after the other in a similar fashon and although only three Kassi frigates remained, they charged the Selangors nonetheless. The Cush fired a barrage of 650mm thermonuclear shells into the Kassi frigates. While one managed to avoid a direct hit, the other two didn't stand a chance. But the tide of battle turned when five Kassi battlewagons and almost two dosen frigates decloaked right in front of the Cush fleet. The cush fired another barrage of railguns and missiles into the oncoming Kassi fleet, but all of the Cush ordnace detonated prematurely. The lead Kassi battleship fired a high energy beam into the FCNS Senator, blowing it's turrets off their mountings and detonating their munitions stores, effectively gutting it. In response, the Cush sent the rest of their frigates and their two Elyassian manufactured Hresvelgr intra-atmospheric cruiser/carriers in a desperate attempt to halt the Kassi advance. The Cush frigates and strikecraft Engaged the Kassi advance group while the two Hresvelgr cruisers opened up with their ion cannons and missile banks. But even this did little to slow the Kassi advance as none of the munitions hit their targets. The Two Cush cruisers moved to try a piont blanc assault into the Kassi Battleships, but were both destroyed when a salvo of missiles was fired into their engine vents. By this point in the battle, the Cush were being utterly wiped out. The Cheiftan class carrier Aurelia was the only Cush capital ship left. It's crew could only watch as the Kassi mercilessly fired into the civilian stations and slaugherted any ships attempting to escape or fight back. But the Kassi would only ignore the escaping carrier for so long. Three Kassi frigates and a squadron of fighters broke off from the main group and chased down the Cush carrier, which fired back with it's deck guns and emptied it's VLS tubes to no avail. A Kassi energy torpedo blew the main thruster array apart and stopped the ship in it's tracks. the Kassi frigates circled the doomed carrier, firing into it's docking bays and destroying it's guns. The carrier just barely managed to transmit it's battle telemitry to a sattelite on the edge of the system before it's reactor went critacal. Two days later, a full taskforce arrived in system to find the remains of the Cush fleet scattered around the battle site. The Kassi were nowhere to be found, and they cleaned up all of their debris. No survivors were found among the wreckage, and a massive military installation was built in place to defend against another Kassi invasion, an invasion which never came. |

While a great read, do note that war with the Federation of Cush means war with Hiigara as well. Kassi are neutral to the Hiigaran Coalition and hostile to the Crusaders and Elyassians. At this time it isn't viable to put Hiigara into a three-frontal war with Crusaders, Kassi and the Taiidani Second Empire. Admittedly it is a viable proposition, but the end results for this scenario is either Hiigaran galactic dominance, or Hiigaran annihilation and a continuation of intragalactic warfare as everyone tries to get as much of the former HNC's resources as they can. Both are not very interesting from the fiction perspective and reeks of Hiigara being Germany in WW2. Would Yasotay care to study this political situation and grace us with a strategic analysis? Still, it would make for a great plot for a Hiigaran arcade game - plenty of targets to shoot ![]() |

Well this was only an isolated incedent and no Kassi ships have been seen in Cush or Hiigaran space before or since, with the exeption of a Kassi mercenary unit that was engaged by a joint fleet consisting of the Kuun-Lan and Elusive Concept and their respective fleets. This was mistaken for a Corsair attack. In fact, neither the Cush nor Hiigarans have had any previous confirmed contact with the Kassi, regular military or mercenary forces. The Kassi's intentions with the Cush are unknown and they may have even mistaken them for Elyassians (although this is highly unlikelly). The Kassi Navy's intentions are currently unknown. Their attacks on Corsairs, Elyassians, Cush, Turanic Raiders, Imperials, and Civilians are growing bolder and bolder, but they have not hinted at any massed invasion, war of attrition, or even piracy. They are attacking civilian, pirate, commercial, and military targets at random, and leaving no survivors. They are very thourogh at cleaning up Kassi, and only Kassi debris and killing any survivors. and not hinted at an invasion of Elyassia or anyone else even though their technological base is years ahead of even their neighbors. |

Sponson, corperate something The Sponson corperation is currently the single largest corperate entity in the known universe. The Hiigaran company currently controls 98% of all Hiigara's gross domestic product, as well as a sizeable chunk of that of the Federation of Cush, Levii Conglomerate, and Elyassian Federation. Sponson owns all but four Hiigaran corperations, those being Somtaaw Mining and metals, The twin companies Haukinge & Nilsen, and Heinschal Space Systems, and the Cush run Schalletti Irii Conglomerate. Sponson itself is made up of hundreds of smaller companies which were either bought, merged, or created by Sponson to fill certian roles. As such, Sponson has an ironclad monopoly on such things as Military equipment, Industrial manufacturing, Domestic Commerce, and with it's recent purchace of the Kunde corperation, Interstellar shipping. Sponson has been credited with suchh feats as building both Hiigaran motherships as well as the Kuun Lan and Faal Corum, Single handedly maintaining Hiigara's economic stability fro the first two decades after landfall, and almost everything that went into the exodus from Kharak and rise of Pax Hiigara. But Sponson came from very humble beginnings. Roughly three hundred years before the building of the first mothership, a man by the name of Sponson Paktu built his own general store in a small town near the Maijirian ocean on Kharak. It was a humble affair selling various types of stuff to the locals. From that, the Sponson family continued building several shops across the desert. Sponson hit the big time when Kraih Sponson Paktu, who was digging behind one of Sponson's stores to put in an outhouse, struck a pocket of oil. Hastily she set up a makeshift derrek out of an old radiator, some metal pipe, and a hollowed out Skaal skull. This turned out to be the single largest deposit of fossil fuels on Kharak and unofficialy began the Kushan Industrial revolution. With this, Sponson rapidly grew into a manufacturer of drilling equipment, Petroleum powered industrial and transport devices, and later expanded into aircraft and technology as Inter Kiith relations began to stabilize and Sponson began hiring experianced workers from Kiiths Sjet, Somtaaw, Mannan, and others. By the time of the discovery of the Khar-Toba, Sponson had become a global corperation and played a vital role in what was to come. The first expadition teams into the Great desert drove in Sponson built sandcrawlers, wore Sponson made enviro-suits, and dug with Sponson made digging implements. When the plan for the mothership came down from the Daimiid, Sponson was ready to take the challange. They quickly bought or merged with the largest Technological, Manufacturing, and mining companies at the time and began laying the 'Groundwork' for what would become the Kushan's greatest triumph. The construction of the Scaffold alone taxed Sponson's resources to the limit, and forced the company to divide itself into three seperate sections, Sponson General (the core branch of the company), Kharakian Science and Technology (which built much of the more technical parts of the mothership), and Maijirian Manufacturing GmbH (which would become Plessa Dylaan & Griin after landfall). Sponson designed, built, and operated almost everything that went into the construction of the mothership. From the shuttles and rockets that brought the parts to the scaffold, to the hand tools and systems that built every console, bolted every rivet, welded every component. When the Mothership launched, so did the true leagacy of Sponson. Throughout the homeworld war, Sponson was the only thing standing between the Kushan race and total extinction. Sponson maintained an Ad-Hoc hierarchy throughout the mothership's voyage and technically designed and manufactured every peice of equipment on the voyage to Hiigara. After landfall, the golden age of the Sponson corperation began. Sponson bought up or was granted control of most of the smaller or privately owned Taiidan buisnesses and companies and repurposed what they could. They hired Taiidan employees even at the opposition of the Diiamid and switched to primarily an industrial and manufacturing stance. They built cities, layed down railways and highways, constructed spaceships and stations, and literally built Hiigara from the ground up. Ten years after landfall, Sponson went through a radical restructuring and was split into several diffrent corperations that answered to the Sponson executives who in turn answered the the S'jet and the Daiiamid. Sponson to an extent lost it's monopoly as new companies, both foreign and domestic began moving in to make a profit of the new Hiigarans. While Sponson was the only Hiigaran company at the time who had a relationship with the Bentusi, they were still losing ground to the Elyassian based Zhukov Cosmik GmbH, who were initally subcontracting the Manufacture of Hiigaran military equipment, but later expanded into other fields. But the Beast War changed all this. With Hiigara again on the brink of war this time with an unspeakably deadly foe, Sponson rose to the challange by churning out every last ounce of war materiel it could, at the cost of nearly bankrupting the company, but in the end, bringing victory to the HGN. Sponson hit hard times after the war as it failed to adapt to the postwar environment of peace that followed. Much of the company was bought up by other outside entities and many internal companies sought to go indapendant. It seemed that Sponson would collapse into itself within months. But like a phoenix rising from the ashes, Sponson suddenly bounced back following the Ittar conflict due to an economic boom and began buying up the Indapendant companies. Sponson would remain a coalition of smaller subcontractors under the same name to this very day. Sponson then merged with Zhukov Cosmik and the Cush run Assiir Pharmacuticals, officially giong international. Using these aquasitions as a toehold, Sponson began merging, Buying, or allying with foreign companies. Thus began Sponson Interstellar, the greatest corperate entity the galaxy has ever seen. When the Vaygr invasion began, Sponson was once again, ready for war. They built hundreds of new starships, thousands of Tanks and Armored vehicles, and Millions of tons of ammunition. Despite this, the Vaygr pressed on. Sponson was then called by the Daiiamid to build a secret project initially called SCS-1125-HGN-02, and it would be the largest single construction effort since the Daiiamid tower. The groundwork was laid usung the original mothership's PDA and manufacturing array, but was then moved to the secret facility at the Tanis 273 Megalith. Sponson built the ship which would be known as the Pride of Hiigara in under two months, by which time the Vaygr had reached as far into Hiigaran space as the Coruc-Tel system. By 2AI (after invasion), Sponson had built over ten thousand starships of frigate class and above and hundreds of thousands of tons of war materiel. Now exporting to the Federation of Cush, Assembly of Ittar, Nalthoran/Arl-Coutl alliance, and Elyassia, Sponson has topped even the Arl-Coutl as the largest military equipment manufacturer in the galaxy. Though as such, they have earned much more negative publicity in recent months, accused of such things as job saftey neglagance, enviromental damage, hiring Turanic Raiders and/or Kassi mercenaries as a private military, and even murder of political activists. Though none of this can be proved. Simply put, without Sponson, Pax Hiigara would not exist. LIST OF KNOWN SPONSON COMPANIES Sponson executive: executive and marketing branch of the Sponson corperation. Plessa Dyllan & Griin: Engine: powerplant and computer manufacturer. Kratos Armorments: Starship and personal weapons construction. Vassagerii Transport GmbH: Road and Rail manufacturer. Eve Software Inc: Military software and computer fabricator.
