Attached is the method I have used to make relic style ship icons, with information about icons format and mapping.

Right, is this the time for a "OMG we're all gonna die" line? Smile

*five-minute string of medieval curses* That f*$? forum software does not accept the zipped file.

EDIT: for mysterious reasons, it accepted this one, perhaps because it's unformatted text and therefore harder to read Insane:sigh:
Sun Tzu attached the following file:
Ship_Icon_Tutorial[186].zip [2.97kB / 361 Downloads]

Umh, offtopic:

Sun Tzu what's in your avatar? It looks like Silent Hill zombie dresses in pirate suit to me Grin

mrWho, you've just proved yourself a remarkable sci-fi illiterate :bigrazz:

Sun Tsu I have a question:
Could you make those files I attached into ship icons (they already in .tga format)?
Also could you write a shipicon.lua for them? I tried to do it myself but failed. This shipicon would be brand new because I would use it in mod that have no icons (exept stock derelict icon that is attached to every ship that have no icon).

Well technically Mr. Who the good Le Sun Tzu has acquired his avatar from the classic SF movie "Blade Runner" were it is a toy developed by one of the Bio-Engineers. In turn it is a subtle acknowledgement to one of the classic SF writers for his book on a society of teddybears with a very militaristic outlook on life. The name of the author and book(s) escape me, but it was around in the 1960s and 70s... ancient history.

Forget about uppeer post. I mannaged to put icon ingame, but I have a problem.
In place of stock derelict icon I see only my icon background (blank or black) but no ship itself. I attach one of my icons.
Please help.

EDIT: Never mind, I found what I'm doing wrong, silly, silly me Grin

I'm glad you found the bugs. Nice icons too.

Make an article of it.
Use link "Submit Article" in navigation above.

I am not a very big fan of medieval curses. I would prefer to find out what You did and what happened to narrow down the cause of yer cursing. To fix it.

Sorry, I don't know how medieval curses sound in ole Swedish. In French they can be rather tasty Grin

Seriously: I wrote the tutorial in MS word, saved the file with the usual .doc extension, zipped it with OSX built-in utility, which gave a name like "PDS Icon Tutorial.doc.zip". When I realised the problem, I renamed it to "PDS Icon Tutorial.zip", assuming the issue was the double extension. It did not work. Then I copied the text, pasted it and saved it with a text-edit utility (subethaedit), then zipped it with the same OSX utility with the name "PDS_Icon_Tutorial.zip". I agree the method was not very scientific for debug purposes since I changed several things at a time to fix the issue.

And I did not think of the article. I'll do that.

Spaces, my dear friend, spaces.

Spaces in filename. NONO.

See, fixed. Howdy
