PDS-AS Mac Crashing bug + solution
Kanashiili
In the StartWeaponConfig function, the iMaxEffectsSpawned argument determines the number of times a weapon hits. Supposedly a value of 0 means 1 hit if fWeaponFireLifetime is equal to 0.

BUT!

On the mac, they seem to have forgotten that rule, and so a value of 0 there crashes on load.

I noticed this in the MSL-MT3-W1-SRASTM.wepn file:

StartWeaponConfig(NewWeaponType,"Fixed","Missile","PDS8-HVASTM-Stg2","Normal",320,60000,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,3,12,20,1,1,25,10,0.1,"Normal",0,0,0)

The above crashes a mac on load.

StartWeaponConfig(NewWeaponType,"Fixed","Missile","PDS8-HVASTM-Stg2","Normal",320,60000,0,0,0,0,1,0,0,3,12,20,1,1,25,10,0.1,"Normal",0,0,0)

Does not, although they are functionally identical.

Also, I think this is already known, but the planets don't work on the mac. I'm trying to figure out why.

The bug is in the HOD files.

AFAIK the HODs that cannot be displayed in HardEd with PointPicker are the same as those that crash HW2 on a mac.

I keep getting a crash in 7.4 on loading when the progress bar reaches the "Universe" subtext. I tried a couple fixes including deleting the planets from the scenarios and the weapon fix that Kanashiili described.

Any ideas? I'll see if I can figure it out.

One of the backgrounds crashes mac HW2 too. I don't have its name on the top of my head, it has already been mentioned on this forum. Otherwise make sure you started with a new profile.

Hrm... still no dice, but at least it crashed as the "Load Level" subtext this time.Grin

Pity.

There must be some characters in certain level files that HW2 can't read. Just copy-paste the "NonDetermChunk" chunk from a level that doesn't crash to the others. Strange as it seems, everything will be fine.

There are more missile weapons with that error. I just pointed out one. I think that they were:
MSL-MT3-W1-SRASTM
MSL-MT3-W1-ERASTM
MSL-MT12-W3-ERASTM-9xpod

Alright, it looks like everything's running smooth now.

Thanks guys. Smile

Cool.

Let's make this thread sticky and its title a bit more self-explanatory, pending a mac-friendly release.

What weapons file do mac users have to modify in PDS 9.0?

This doesn't seem to be working for me.

Tristan
From the SCN1 level:...

function NonDetermChunk()
fogSetActive(0)
setGlareIntensity(0.10)
setLevelShadowColour(0,0,0,1)
loadBackground("m15")
setSensorsManagerCameraDistances(1000, 100000)
setDefaultMusic("Data:sound/music/battle/battle_keeper")
end

This seems to be the most common NonDetermChunk. I can't find another that'll make the level work, though. Anyone have an example?

Can anyone please help me out? Sun?

I'm *desperate*!

I've tried making the changes that have been detailed in this post to the file but I still can't seem to get it to work right. Has anyone gotten this to run on there macs and could you provide a link so that I can download the working file??

Maybe I'm missing something in this thread, but where exactly is the file in which these edits need to be made. I cant find it for the life of me.

Sun Tzu
Don't despair, fellow mac users, but be patient ;D I'll take care of this before the end of this month.

I've checked this and :sigh: it does crash even after fixing missile and level files. Picking up the suspect file is a long process for a doubtful benefit with an interrupted development.

The UE files do work fine on my mac, with the only exception of the carrier vs carrier level. More on this later.
