v7.4 range questions
number331
Main question:

I started a skermish against a CPU (vagyr) on normal setting. I was playing as Sobani. Got into a huge fire fight, but for some reason, there were two missle craft (looked like a frigate or small crusier/destroyer). The ships were hitting me from almost half-way across the map with all thier weapons (missles mostly, but also lasers). Whats this?

Basically I got into full fireing range of CPU with my craft, and then these two ships took all my ships out from very very far away.

What kind of ships would have this kind of capacity, and what can I do to combat these ships? Thanks.

V7.4 is a different beast altogether from 7.2, and is not meant to go together. 7.4 is a FULL INSTALL of the pre-production PDS 8.0 battlespace, not an update of 7.0/7.2. Perhaps it should be called something new for marketing purposes eh?

It's because 7.4 uses the vgr_destroyer, missiledestroyer and vgr_missilecorvette slots for the new ships, thereby dominating the tame HW2 battlespace with 60-180km range primary weaponry.

wow, thats some range. any way to counter this at all? Those 2 ships just ate through my whole fleet really quickly.

Easy. Uninstall 7.0 and play only with the 7.4 ship duels between the PCG 12, DHG 63 and DHA 75.

Those are the operational v8.0 ships so far.

It's impossible to counter the 8.0-configured ships with 7.0 ones as V8 is intended to be a Newtonian style battlespace. Missiles fly at Earth escape velocity, etc.

what race can build those ships? the plain vagyr race or the special no ai one?

Now I have to get properly motivated to download 7.4! Long range missile duals!! This will be very interesting. Indeed yes it will.

It's worth it. But if you're into manual control like I am, it's a massive challenge. Wink

Manual control has its uses for (Example) forcing ship orientation or certain maneuvers or just plain acting like you can do better than the AI in combat flying Smile

Manual is somewhat critical to properly employ the missile corvettes as they can't afford to close the range with an enemy that can fight back with capital scale weaponry. Remember the multi-stage ASTMs go out to 180km (practically infinite range).
