Hope I spelled that right... Anyhow: 1. The Arellian Defender vs a Defiance: who wins? 2. The Arellian Defender vs a Prince of Hiigara IV: who wins? 3. The Arellian Defender is also known as the Supermonitor, right? I ask this because in the build menu, playing as the HGN (not Sobani), the Arellian Defender is 4000ru's, the POH is 5000ru's and the Defiance is 6000ru's. Aside from being more cost-effective, you can build strike craft and utility ships (including Mobile Refineries!) from the Defender. How does it stack up vs. the other two same-chassis super-capitals? In combat last night, my Arellian Defender took on a Vagyr BCV and an Archaemanes cruiser and survived... it's a tough ship! |

(I think it was the Defiance...) Worst ship ever to be against. A Black Rose and an Arellian (I think it's the one that looks like the Black Rose) Defender can not take it on 2v1. |

Are you sure it isn't the Deliverance that was the super powerful BV that could even beat a Vagyr one.
Seems like it was years since I was last here

I've been playing PDS recently, 7.1, and every time I trie to deploy the Supermoniter she gets her poor little out-dated ass seriously thrashed. Where she used to stand up to punishment from an Al'Khalid and blow it to pieces in the process, now she seems to be outclassed by everything. It's almost like someone turned her armour into paper instead. And the ARGs don't seem to be doing the same amount of damage any more. Is this just me? |

Indeed, the black rose / supermonitor are more like destroyers to me. (maw is right, it waw the Deliverance. *shudders at thought*) |

The Black Rose is a Nalthorian BCR. The Arelian Defender is the one that looks like the PoH, only with those huge SHARG turrets. |

Ideas for Beefing up the Supermonitor, 1: Put another ARG1200 turret on the bottom primary mount 2: Replace fantail modular weapon mounts with ICA225s and PC40s as well as replacing the Arbiter3s forward of the main topside turret with ICAs as well 3: Add some PIC87s and ICA100s next to the existing LH25Es and PC40s for heavy CIWS batterys (Clustering CIWS and Heavier ion weapons with overlaping fields of fire near key subsystems will keep them in working order {the Sumermonitors ARG turrets are big and tend to die very quickly} and increase the genreal combat lifespan of the ship). 4: Add increased armor/shield package and enhance internal superstructure for added durability. 5: For the ARGs, simply increase the velocity and yeild of the shells as well as use a denser metel as a casing (to increase penatration and overall damage). Finally add an increased standoff missile/torpedo armment. That should increase the firepower and armor, sort of. If anyone has any other ideas please submit below. |

Yes, Deliverance, not Defiance. Arelian, not Arellian. And if you play the duel with the Arelian Defender vs the two Archaemanes, it gets its ass handed to it ![]() All those SHARG/ARG turrets get taken out of commission and then it's basically harmless... I'm trying to find where it really shines - so far, the Arelian Defender/Supermonitor seems to do best when it is bombarding from a distance; if it is not the primary target of the BCV/BV/enemy, then it is a wonderful artillery piece! And it turns out that it is more limited than I thought with regards to building... it has tabs for other buildable subsystems, but they are empty. More to come, I hope. |

I have a personal variant of the venerable Supermonitor, outfitted with broadside ICAP180s, an ARG640 triple dorsal, and all the Arbiter cannons replaced with ICAP180, a nice upgrade IMO. The ARG640 can do more damage than the ARG1200 when firing in the three round burst that it does. Mine also had a bit of an armor and maneuverability upgrade as well. Nothing ludicrous like 1200 m/s speeds (for PDS 7.1 I mean), but subtle. The normal Supermonitor, however, is an outdated hull, based off an old III or IV hull, if I remember correctly. The newer-armored and newer-armed ships would, woefully, defeat it quite easily. A starlight sharpshot magical girl!

Perhaps then, the Supermonitor should be reviewed for a chassis upgrade? Perhaps another variant of the new Deliverance II body, stripped down secondary weapons arrays and fitted with as many high-calibre SHARGs as can be crammed onto the thing, for a nice hard-hitting artillery unit. Unfortunately, the proliferation of Hyperspace inhibitors on almost every decently large capital ship has completely negated the Arelian Defender's original role (and my favourite of its battle tactics) that of a super heavy deep-strike anti-capital unit. |
