Behind the Lines

Thought of this two part scenario;

Part I; Vayger Forces have managed to sneak into a lesser defended area of the Higariian battle lines. In this distant location, the Vayger have been able to approach two Higariian outposts and jam communications to patrolling Fleets in the area.

Objective 1;Capture one of the outposts as well as disabling the communications array before the communications jam fails and Higariian re-inforcements come to the aid of the outpost.

Objective 2: (tatical hyperspace jump) Either disable or destroy the second outpost while awaiting the arrival of relef forces to establish a command outpost.

Forces: I have not fully looked into the ships and their abilites in PDS 7, but the task force should be realitivly small, and quite capiable of a good offense. Nothing larget than a cruiser with a good escort of bombers and light fighters.

HGN Forces should mostly be light-mid defense mainly consisting of moniters and gun turrets. (nothing too impossible to combat or would seem out of place for outpost guarding behind the battle lines.)

Total operations timelimit: ~12 minutes before jamming fails and another 5 before HGN forces arrive. But at the end of 12 minutes, the mission should be failed.

---------------

Part II: A HGN long range patrol picks up a faint distress signal coming from an outpost base. There is a general lack of details about the situation, and lack of anything better to do, an investagation of the outpost commences using half the partrol group. Upon arrival, outpost 1 is under attack and does not have much time before it collapses. Also, communications are still under jamming and re-inforcements cannot be called into help.

Objective 1: Defend the outpost (non captured one) before their communication array fails or it is destroyed. (timed, ~7 minutes)

Objective 2: Locate souce of the comminucations jamming as well as investagate the other outpost (the captured outpost).
(note: short tatical jump to second outpost)

Objective 3: Upon discovering the second outpost has been captured by Vayger forces, it should either be recaptured or destroyed before Vayger re-inforcements are able to arrive. (timed 8 minutes)

Notes: On PTII, Objective 3, an option of neutralizing (destroying) the ship responcible for the communications jamming should be available and result in the remaining patrol forces. Also it should be noted that on the same objective that once the time limit has ended, that the game is not over, but the vayger re-inforcements arrive.

Forces: the innital patrol foces should be light escort, patrol forces with a squadron of heavy fighters. As for the secondary patrol group, it should consist of the heavier ships that would make up the bulk of mid-long range patrols.

Well that's kind of the outline I had. I'm sorry I haven't provided better details on specific ships to use. Again i'm not entirely familiar with all the ships in PDS 7 or what they're ablities are. Suggestions are welcomed. :nekoharo:

This is a nicely outlined summary - one suggestion I can give is to justify the ill-defended outpost station in military terms. Like, your strike force is a detachment from the main task force in the area, and a strategic recon asset has identified a good window of opportunity for a lighting raid as the Hiigaran commanding officer has taken a diversionary attack as a main effort, reacted to it and neglected to keep a reserve force to guard their lines of communication.

Such screwups do occur in life but it should be kept realistic. This makes all the difference between a wargame and your average medium of electronic entertainment.

Aside from this *small* feedback I'd like to say that a scenario based on this concept is viable.

If you think it's a good start, I wouldn't then mind outlining a series of Strike, Counter-Strike scenarios based along a story line (something like a vayger fleet commander is told to take a section of his battle group and provide a beach head into deep HGN controlled space.)

I know I was kind of sketchy on the background information for such an offensive from the Vaygers, but I just wanted to get it out before I forgot it, or worse, doubted myself and never posted it.

Hmm... Finally got around to re thinking stuff for this scenario. As for the reason why vayger forces where able to get a jump on the outposts....

A recent minor magnetic storm that has flaired up in the local nebula has partially strained communications to the surrounding patrol groups, mostly because the need to constantly scan all frequencies on both the patrol groups end and the outpost's end, real time communication has been effectively nullified. This has resulted in basically needing to continously sending the same message over until a reply is recieved.

A little lame, but somewhat of a realistic reasoning for weakening of defenses over a large area. If you're wondering why vayger aren't affected by the storm, they're using laser in a line-of-sigh fashion since they're all together and have the advantage of planning and so don't require as much constant commincation for such an operation.

I'm all open to suggestions on any aspect of this scenario.

Behind the lines (Revision):

Background: Vaygr forces willing to make a foot hold into the expanding region held by the Higariian fleets and their allies are devising plans that are pushing the limits between bold and suicidal. However, after weeks of seemingly endless reconnacince along the boreders of the outying region, a weekpoint has potentially been found for exploitation.

After reviewing the communications between two outposts slighly outside the bounds of a dense and highly radioactive nebula, the outposts have been found to have only a small defense wing protecting the both of them, however there is a patrol group that passes close to the region every 10 cycles.

These two outposts are a part of a more critical system for the HGN Fleets as they assist in the deep space communications and hyperspacing alignments. If at least one of them could be captured, it would be able to help increase the presence of Vaygr forces in the area and reduce the responce times and accuracy of hyperspacing as well as disrupt Higariian supply routes without the need for direct engagement.

Objectives are to capture both outposts while a battle group attemps to distract the patroling fleet. Timing will be critical since communications jamming will only last for a short while. If the outpost cannot be secured, then they must be destroyed.

Part one is a Vaygr force against the outpost and HGN defense force.
Outpost must be captured within time limit for victory.
Carrier must survive.

VGN (player controlled)
2 HAC squadrons
1 Bomber Squadron
2 Infiltration Frigates (should they be AI controlled for interesting game play?)
1 PCG
1 Carrier

HGN Defense force (ai controlled)
1 Avenger squadron
3 Blade interceptors
1 Lavi squadron
2 Casadors
1 Boarding Frigate
