Hey Guys! First and foremost I'm a Mac user I've been having a wicked craving for a RTS recently, so I checked out what other RTSs were out for the Mac. I came across Homeworld 2 and it looks phenomenal! Exactly what I was looking for. I naturally went to youtube to checkout if there were any videos of the gameplay online, and I came across several videos of the "point defense mod" which looked absolutely amazing. SO my question is - does PDS work on Mac, and if it doesn't, is there a Mac version? I searched google and one Mac mod site had a PDS mod but it was version 5.1 or something and I see PDS is up to much more current versions. And if PDS simply isn't going to work on Mac, is Homeworld 2 still a fantastic game without it? Thanks ![]() |

Actually, would one of you mind telling me what PDS exactly DOES? Is it what adds the lasers, the flak, or what? |

PDS adds a LOT to the base homeworld game. about 50 million new ships and weapons, and new factions too (the Taiidan are back:yes , and a lot more. If you want more details, Ironwatsas or Tel should clear it up for you.

Interesting, it does look sick in the videos more important to me though, is does it work on a Mac? Also, for whatever reason, my MacBook is having quite a bit of trouble with the demo, and I'm not sure why. I've only got a 64mb VRAM chip on this, but more than sufficient processor and RAM. should I assume from the demo my computer can't handle the game, or is it just that the demo itself isn't a final, polished version of the port and with a patch it'll run much smoother? sorry to ask so many questions it's just that homeworld 2 looks really great, and I'm just trying to figure out if it's worth the purchase. |

Till today no RTS manages to beat Homeworld 2's style and simplicity in executing the sci fi naval combat theme. PDS just makes the naval combat therein actually baescd on real world military concepts executed in the movies XD |

Interesting. So... is it compatible with Mac or is there a good, fairly current Mac version? Also, what kind of machines are you guys using, just so I can get an idea of what kind of specs I need to run this. |

Yes, there are many Mac users around, the most active today seems to be Tristan. PM him for help, or visit the installation support forums to get you started. And HW2 is available as a mac version. Specs, I'm running PDS on a AMD XP 2000+ 512mb 266mhz DDR RAM, Geforce FX5700 This will run task force engagements fine, like in the V11 singleplayer scenarios or a 2 vs 2 skirmish with 3 AIs, maximum. If you got a 3ghz system with a top rate gfx card you can run fleet engagements, Battle of Endor size at something like 60 fps. |

Yeah, I'll help you out if you like. If you want to try PDS 7, download the Mac .big file from the download folder on this site. In order to run it, you can use modrunnerv2, or you can open your terminal and type a bunch of gibberish in. I highly recommend playing PDS 11, though, as it's the most balanced, ground-breaking and intense PDS version to date in my opinion. Download the latest full install in the most recent forum, and place the data files in your data folder in Homeworld 2. To run it, type '/Applications/Homeworld\ 2/Homeworld\ 2.app/Contents/MacOS/Homeworld\ 2 -overridebigfile' without the quotations in your terminal, and if that's the proper path. |
