PDS 7.2 polishing effort
Theotherguy
those icons are uttery amazing! good work.

I made a photoshop mockup of a startscreen, since I lacked the template and any ability to edit rot files at the time...tell me what you think. I'm not in any way trying to compete with the other start screens posted here...it's just good to have different creative options now and then, right?

update: I made a fairly mediocre graft into the template you gave me. Is it required to be inside that little window?

Well, the template I posted is the one for Relic-style loading screen (displayed when a mission is being loaded). It could be changed but then the progress bar would need to be remapped. For the menu background Inert's work on it look near to completion so there is no need to duplicate that.

As regards your screen, my personal thoughts are the following. Imo the screen is supposed to reflect some of the finer points of the game, give people who just discover it a clue about what will follow and make them want to go further. If one believes this is more important than a handsome or nice design, the site banner is a very good example of what can be done: it shows the concept of wargame development through roleplay, so the bits and pieces there are not just good-looking stuff but are assembled to support the idea. There is a final nice touch with inversed player/character representations at each end of the banner. And who cares if it does not immediately please the eye? (well, I know quite a few guys do, but I don't Grin)

Following that logic for a PDS 7.2 screen, I would say that it should show one or several key features of the game: complex universe, epic RTS gameplay, military style management, 'realistic' space wargame, new ships and weapons, etc. The screen you made delivers a rather different message: it's a nice looking new ship alone with a planet in the back ground, with a rather FPS-style than RTS-style (including the "target locked" words). I think it would be nice for a space FPS or space exploration/trade/combat MMORP. So it should be more epic and complex.

You're absolutley right, that menu is too minimal and doesn't show real combat. I suppose I was going for something artistic...but do you at least like the font?

anyway, I've made a loading screen with that in mind. Is it possible to have multiple loading screens in hw2, by the way?

This is very impressive work. Keep it up!

Update: icons completed, rescaled and mapped. I'll post them for testing tomorrow.

Multiple screens are indeed possible. Check out this thread, I've posted a link to an example of randomly loaded screens.

It appears that only French appreciate my artwork.

Well since I am pro-French I'm a happy camper Smile

Viva la' France! (with my appologies for likely misspelling) Sad

I just had a thought. Is it possible to put an animation or a movie in place of the background image in the menu?

TelQuessir
Like in Republic Commando - would be neat. I don't think that is supported however.

Icon update: I have been delayed by Flifront downtime and issues with dds files. I am attaching a file that I have not successfully tested on my mac. I hate to do that, but I need to be sure that the issues I have encountered come from a compatibility problem with my mac unzip utility.

Could someone test it and let me know if the icons are displayed properly? Thanks.

and the 1600 version

Sorry for triple posting Insane but I wanted those to be available for testing before I leave for 10 days and filefront is desperately down at the moment.

I believe the best course of action here is to simply damn the torpedoes and do whatever YOU think is most productive. Screw feedback if you have to force people to give it.

As for me I have no capacity to download anything ATM.

sorry about not responding for a while. I was at disneyworld. I think its fantastic that hw2 supports multiple loadscreens. in that vein I have created six unique screens which I will soon incorporate into the engine. Note that these are all from the same battle. I will get more variety as I get time to take screenshots of more skirmishes.

Bless ye, laddy. Those icons look superb.

I second SunTzu's existing feedback on the proposed load screens.

Does Praetor super carrier will be full completed and buildable in polishied 7.2 ??

Edit:
-Icons are working fine.
-Don't forget to fix Deliverance battle Carrier build link because first 7.2 path (called 8SP1 or something like that) made it unbuildable.
-Could you update the caplimits? I mean it's unaceptable to have Deliverance and HMNS Majestic in one slot. You should rewrite caplimits to be more resonable.

This is final, I believe. Unless there are some reasonable concerns...

I must apologize, though, that the image quality is poor. That's what happens when you use 3rd party conversion programs like ROT-tool.

Tested out icons package on PC - doesn't display properly (see picture attached).

Regardless, they appear to be fine work all around.

I would also request that this release be called something other than 7.2. Like, 7.3. Obvious, no? XD

May I ask what resolution you are using, OGL?
