For various reasons, the points above cannot be used at all in NGCS space combat. That is because NGCS space combat plays out much more like real world submarine combat than a land battlefield.

The speed and scale of tactical engagements, even in the reduced-capability technical base of the Earth projects, will lead to intelligence gathering devices being employed exclusively on the operational to strategic layer. The tactical engagment layer is similar to a boxing ring - the combatant parties have already committed to the fight.

For PDS, all those above ideas may sound good but consider the AI's reaction to it. This can be summed up in one world - nothing. Therefore making available unfair advantages to the player will detract PDS's desirability as a simulation of the chaos of open warfare.

In conclusion - the modelling of operational to strategic level intelligence gathering devices and their employment in military affairs is best left to NGCS - e.g. limited time and resources (ammunition), a slew of targets to engage, your objective is to destroy one. Recon, isolate and engage with an overwhelming trans-orbital strike using remote targeting assets for guidance (OTH equivalent), and egress.

So, the concept isn't flawed, but take note of the presentation. As operating environments change, proposals need to be modified to take into account the various new and different factors making themselves known in the aforementioned different environment.

What about a missle that carries chemicals or concentrated acid that burns through enemy ship armor? With all the supporting bulkheads and thick armor a payload of these it might make a wave of conventional warheads do more dmg.

This is not a science lab. Throw that and any supporting comments into the trash can.

To the poster of the deleted item - valid points are made in there and I see no reason to remove the post. Period.

While those points are correct, note these:

We have NO working model of "realistic" space combat and thus I assume the worst and most user-unfriendly things are going to happen if you are going to use analogies from air, sea and land combat as a base for your space fighting doctrines. Everything is different.

NGCS is also not related to PDS in any way except for basic weapons technology and operating principles.

And at the end of this there are certain paths that we follow in such technical discussions. Science is not about saying "something will work" but looking at IF it will work, and justifying it so that it can be used in-game.

Within those very simple bounds, you will see that the field of play and idea experimentation is very open. That's why NGCS is set on the basis of present-day science and technology, and that's why combat suits are being discussed for purposes of fiction writing and in-game implementation -BECAUSE- it is a viable weapons system for infantry units expected to operate in a diverse range of planetary conditions.
