V7 - community-developed ship loadouts

Space superiority frigate - look no further than the Herald and Linebacker configurations in v7 - reference to Weberverse noted and hey, that's my net-centric fire control right there (j/k) Pfft

Maybe they won't include it but if you think about it this perfect for vayger who done have much versatility.

Actually, it was Makaan who focused on mass production over ship quality to attain the numbers necessary for strategic offensive operations.

Now, the Vagyr are going back to traditional ways - ships for a nomadic, space-based population would be very valuable and thus well built assets indeed, reference to Kolnari pirates in Anne McCaffery and S.M. Stirling's novels.

As such, the Vagyr will cease using fighter swarm tactics very rapidly in the Fifth Generation operating environment - personnel are not replacable and Vagyr don't breed rapidly ( Pfft at everyone ).

Hiigaran Standoff fighter:

Daniel Hawking was faster than you - we have converted half the Hiigaran fighters to carry the PDS equivalent of FRAMs without the antimatter warheads.

Think of it as a much more devastating development of the HVR150 weapons system (Which is now used as ammunition for direct-fire autocannon).

However I will adapt the short and sweet background you've written for something I have up my sleeves for v7, thanks.

This seems similar to what the Russians encountered towards the end of WW2. They were forced to more carefully use their men in a planned assault instead of the human waves which they used for much of the war. Come to think of it that can be used as an explanation for the discontinuation of the Vagyr Swarms in the 5g enviroment. The massive expenditures in men and material that the Swarm tactics demanded unltimately proved to costly to continue.

TelQuessir
That's very nice Revan, consider that integrated into documentation. Keep it up.

Thorin
Getting the attention on the Destroyer class got me thinking about the Chevalier. I do believe that it would benefit from hypervelocity missiles and sunfires (or light Li cannons). Now to bed.

TelQuessir
Lithium-ion cannons will give the DL a distinctive role in the battlespace as a DEW attack frigate. Duly noted for implementation.

AC50s will be installed so as to give the Chevalier enough capability to function as a anti-strikecraft picket, fulfilling its background of being a very much smaller cousin of the Vagyr destroyer class - now uprated to assault cruisers.

If we are to assume that the Vaygr are strategically on the defensive (at least at the moment) then there is an inherent function to conserve. This desire to conserve would also provide a logic for the Vaygr supporting an Imperial Taiidan effort to relieve pressure on the front through an alternate offensive to a flank. It would also provide a logic for the Vaygr (like the Hiigaran) to invest in S&T to reduce the crew compliment for any given ship class.

revan
Keep in mind that at least to me the imperial taidan are only just recently regaining something of their former strength. Having been under the Vagyr's both figurative and literal heel for some time the taiidani may only now be able to come to the fore. The Vagyr may support such a flanking move, but the taidani probably only have the strength to operate within a larger fleet at the moment.

Also in a slight off topic question. When the taidani regain the strength to operate idependantly will this mean encounters between fleets that follow the same general doctrines and tactics or will the vagyr influence in still be predominanat?

TelQuessir
Revan - the Vagyr in the cumulative sense have been dramatically weakened in their ill-perceived effort to conquer the galaxy. Hence chance for Taiidani domination.

revan
ahhhh. I was under the impression that they were roughly equal on a ship for ship basis.

TelQuessir
Even in ship modelling especially in v7, absolutely nothing in PDS is statistically equal. Even ships of the same rating and designation.

I would also say that the Taiidani Second Empire would have the advantage of superior organisation against both Hiigarans and any single Vagyr faction, of which only two may be said as having any sort of military capability large enough to influence the strategic picture.

That said, a quick, decisive victory of the remaining Loyalist forces in the South Eastern Front can put off the forging of the Second Taiidani Empire forever, as they will not stand a chance against a combined Hiigaran Republic, "reformed" Vagyr and the Elyssians.

But fortunately for us wargamers, RL is very unpredictable.
What I just said is merely one possibility in the future, one that might just occur, and whoops, there goes the need for large standing military fleets.

revan
You misunderstood me. I meant on a pure numbers basis, although your comment on the statistical equality of each ship is well taken.
In addition to this, Mr.Who proposes that Kaghan cruiser/carriers be converted to missile Q-ships, an effort which is already deployed by Cobalt Shiva and myself in the IVF roleplaying effort.
I have a converted carrier chassis missile boat that just needs hodding now, you can use her if you want (and provided that there aren't too many texture errors.)

Side: IVF
Class: Special Bomber
Weapons: in place of fussion missile- EMP missiles

Background: Because IVF is outnumbered by Armada, they invented this EMP missile to win even the most hard battle. One wing can easily disable Frigates and Destroyer (if it don't have any escort and LDS/DFG is down). It looks interesting on paper- 1 IVF destroyer with few of those can beat 2-3 Armada Destroyers.

MarieHawke
Explain how the EMP would work. Said EMP shockwave would only be able to propagate through an atmosphere. If you think there's an atmosphere in space, please take off your helmet.

In short, refer to my avatar, and also, reconsider any ideas that you might want to put out.

EMP effects have been gone over many times, and I believe the consensus was that modern spaceborne military systems are simply not affected. Granted, ion cannons and the like do a lot of system damage as it is, and it may be possible to engineer a beam that trades damage for systems integrity damage. We'll see...

BigFish
EMP weapons could be deployed in space and are pretty easy to build -basically a coil of insulated wire wrraped round a shaped charge core. The only drawbacks would be;

1) It works too well and disables everything in a large radius including your stuff
2) If you can shield yourself against it so can the enemy and they become usless

Eitherway, they wouldnt be used in an engagement. Large EMP bombs may deployed to cover retreats or on suicide runs but would be pretty pointless otherwise.

Thorin
You forgot sabotage.

EMP bombs have their place. That place is outside main engagements.

TelQuessir
Invalid point, Thorin.

Give me some progress on this thread or it will be locked.

EMP-worshippers, like flak-whiners and Gatling-brats, have no place in my realm. Get the terminology right or refrain from even opening your mouth.

On the subject of the ImpTaii.

While it is not accepted as PDS canon, it has been around for a while that the Imperial Taiidan have survived under the Vaygr by providing improved ships and weapon technology. Witness the 'Daughters of the Wind' Corvette hulls that have obvious Taiidan influence. Of course the QJE cannot hide its Taiidan influence. The weakened Armada becomes more and more reliant on the Imperials to overcome the Hiigaran technology. The Vaygr can no longer afford to trade numbers for victory. Using this advantage the Imperials have been given control of a segment of the former Republic of Taiidan area to continue to provide technology and now an allied force to the Vaygr. The local Taiidan population tired of the oppression of the Vaygr and the failed Taiidan Republic would in most cases remember past glory as salvation. Supported with erradication of any voices that might object, the ImpTaii have a small but solid base to begin a return to Empire. The Vaygr leadership remains wary of the Arogance of the ImpTaii, but still feel they have the mass and means to crush them if they attempt to rebel. For their part the ImpTaii leadership is still more than happy to allow the Vaygr to bleed themselves and the Hiigarans into weakness. A requirement to open another front and openly fight the Hiigaran's would most likely not yet be looked on very favorably by the ImpTaii who would rather wait as long as possible, building their strength to an appropriate level while their enemies bleed each other.

Appologies if this is not the correct spot for the disertation.

Yasotay has just nailed down the intent of manipulating the strategic situation to involve the resurgent Second Taiidani Empire.

I posted something identical in the Scenarios/Campaigns section of this forum last week.

Yasotay's post however, has more intricate detailing. Thanks.
