Battlestar and Friends

That's fair enough, and for the time being the QJE cruiser could be used as an up to date Vagyr line of battle unit.

For the BBX armament I find the proposed loadout satisfactory, but note that V7.3.2 will be getting rid of all those "useless" weapons that take up CPU time and nothing much else besides make pretty fireworks. So no missile spam but close range direct-fire battles will be deadly. This more decisive mode of engagement will be balanced with reduced rate of weapons fire and truly effective high-payload "DP" armament. Nothing stopping us from loading Arbiter main guns with nuclear command detonated or proximity charges and using them as anti-fighter barrage devices.

Those small calibre cannon are, like in present-day naval combat, last-ditch defenses. The present Vagyr setup, of course, emphasises the use of medium calibre super-rapid firing secondary armament for all-purpose defense. Witness the similiarity to these and the real-life Italian Navy warships (heavily armed with OTO Melara Super Rapid 76mm or 100mm guns for missile defense).

The counter to these are ion cannon equipped precision strike fighters which will be programmed to automatically seek out and destroy AF defenses and capital ship combat subsystems. Or, if you prefer, 'sniper' type units, Independence War style. Big potential for long-range HVM duels here - use your light fighters to clear hostile space of stealthy hypervelocity torpedo craft.

Limited ammo is a must if we want to make such strategies as potentially deadly as they should be - while retaining the all-out feel of First Era starship combat once the big guns are expended.

Vaygr Command Carrier

Well. The CHVX does seem rather attractive as a flagship.

The Command Carrier too. If someone asks to have it, anyway.

I would like to just mention that I hope this new revamp of weapons includes a redesign of plasma repeaters and cannons as shorter-ranged, potent weapons.

Sun Tzu
I like very much the "little big red" Command carrier. Hope to see it in 7.3.3 with the new weapon system.

mrWHO
I opted for having CHVX and "Big Red" soon after I first saw CHVX (pre-7.0 times). Anyway I hope you will be able to put them into PDS... scaled down of course (especially Big Red).
I hope that this will not distrupt your attemp to create ITN fleet.

I hope that with introduction of those Command Carriers, Preator will become standard fleet Carrier and those crappy Imperators mk.IV will finnaly go to scrapheap.

P.S Tel you could check Evillejedi new "Rehash mod" coz it have few interesting designs for both Vaygrs and HGN.

Hawking approves muchly.
A starlight sharpshot magical girl!

Would it be worth using big red as the ITN command ship? It looks quite like the hw1 mothership.

Ironwatsas
Personally, I would use Big Red and possibly Lil' Red to either bolster the Federation of Cush or Nalthoran fleet. We could give the Vaygr the old Flagship (refitted with bunches of HVMs and direct fire plasma weapons) as a command carrier. The Taiidan could just call their heavy re-inforcements in from hyperspace from a standard carrier, as budget restrients wouldn't permit them from having very many ships bigger than a Vanaar-Jet.

Just my opinion.

With all these mega-ships floating about we are going to have to import Tefari's maps to give us enough room to fight them. They are all CPU hogs, but they are all VERY big.

Just to make it clear, V11 (Enhanced First Era) will only have -two- megaships. Hiigaran Battlestar and whatever we can conjure for a Vagyr fleet command boat. The present Mothership is workable, if we would work out an armed refit.

There will be no "megaship Jutland", the HW2 engine is inadequate for that. Plus, we are not playing Master of Orion, but Harpoon.

Please consult the prototype OOB for more details:

Are SY's sticking around?

AWWWW!!!! But I finally have the dual core to run it....

mrWHO
Does V11 is an official First era continuation (does Sun Tzu is working on it ? ) or it's another experimental crap ??

(sorry Tel but I cannot forget that all this experimental stuff draw you away from first era giving us nothing instead
- I mean few pre-set newtonian physics scenario battles is nothing comparing to fully operational skirmish of First Era).

I agree with Tel that PDS is not about megaships spam, but it would be fun to have Super Carrier and Big Red scaled down to 2/3 or 3/4 of BBX size and play a roles of command Carriers.

mrWHO
ooppss, silly me, I read PDS mk.II topic...best of luck Tel, I hope you will finnaly succeed (this time), till that I'll stick with 7.3.2 and 7.3.3.

Great models drth! Keep up the amazing work!

I also really like the idea of a revamped SP game

With respect to Vaygr Command Carrier. What i was thinking of was resizing and using it similarly to the hgn shipyard. Ie you don't build it but its the focal point of most of the scenarios.

The CVHX is a bit.. well, too big?

mrWHO
Yep, SY are more like mobile battlestations, while heavy combatants (BBX, Deliverance) might be a bit dangerous place for command staff (look, there is a big deadly ship at other side...lets blow it up first).

Scaled down supper carriers would be good for forward command & production ships... something like Deliverance (that already prooved it's worth) but less ofensive oriented more like support (ECM, commad & control) & production.

While Deliverance beign pure warship refited to production role it's production cost would be big, while super carriers with support role in mind from begining would not only be easier to produce, but also would be put in less danger (second line duty, not full speed ahead duels with Al-khalids, QJE and whole Vaygs cruiser fleets).

Awesomeness, as per usual. But what is that thing on the front (the two big holes), and please tell me it's not another spinal mount direct reactor feed plasma beam or anything like that.

mrWHO
Nice, may I advice some more red stripes on engine section.

@Iron: you got something against spinal mounts?
spinal mount = more powerful beam.

yeah it looks to much like Vay Al-khalid, but if Vay tech is inspired by imperial tech then it's fluff accurate.
