Hey, you flak-heads. Here's your flak gun: http://www.navweaps.com/Weapons/WNGER_35mm-1000_Millennium.htm Just look at the shell! "Sub-projectiles are stacked in 8 layers with 19 sub-projectiles in each layer." A starlight sharpshot magical girl!

*glares* How dare you use that blatently Earthly term! (concept however, is simply perfect for enhancements to small calibre CIWS autocannons) |

::shrugs:: Bah. I need to use Earthly terms against these, umm, Earthlings. XD And yes, that's why I have it. That's what the purpose of the original weapon is. Quote Note: Flight time for AHEAD at a muzzle velocity of 3,445 fps (1,050 mps): 1.05 seconds for 1,090 yards (1,000 m) 2.34 seconds for 2,190 yards (2,000 m) 3.98 seconds for 3,280 yards (3,000 m) www.navweaps.com owns you all =D A starlight sharpshot magical girl!

@ DanielHawking What if you grafted that gun (http://www.navweaps.com/Weapons/WNGER_35mm-1000_Millennium.htm) to the roof of an armored Resource Collector, which could now dock with a larger ship on a repair point and add some firepower...? |

EheheeeheheHEHAHHHAAHAHAHAAHAHHAAHAHA Ahem. This weapon would be used against fighters, yes, but is mostly a missile interception system. IIRC Resourcers might be refitted with 40mm PC. But please don't noob-rush like in Age of Empires II and kill your enemy with 200 harvesters XD I'm thinking that that this gun should be mounted on larger ships as a testbed first, replacing the rear 35mm AC on the Linebacker-III (or something like that) Flotilla Leader frigate. The "Remora" concept is... think Mechwarrior. Robotech. Large, armored mechs with guns and missiles, mainly used for planet-side armored assault roles. Now picture them walking on the hulls of capital ships - like roving subsystems - added there to augment the firepower/PDS of the host ship. In the PDS-Mod universe, would it be simpler to implement this concept as the above-referenced "armored resourcer", able to dock on a repair point of a capital ship? This is for the Fleet commander who has already maxed his fleet out and is looking for additional ways to cram a bit more firepower in there.... or for a commander to help protect a mobile operation by beefing up the ships involved in it (think defenseless Bishop-class transports, etc.). |

Another idea, something of a repost of a request from the old PDS site. Implementation of ship names for capital ships. Upon building a ship, a name would be assigned from an available pool for that class, helping to give your fleet a more personal feel, allowing you to invest emotinally in your command. This would change the thinking 'When that Arbiter goes down, I'll build a new one.' into 'I need to get Warspite out of there quickly before she goes down. I wonder if I can use Barham to shield her as she manoevres away.' |

I always thought... just a random idea off the top of my head, it would probably serve little purpose save to give your vessels a more personal feel. But the HGN MWS mounts... wouldn't it just be spiffy to have your capship roll off the shipyard with the option to chose the secondary batteries you mounted on them? Mainly just the Fleet Carriers and Battleships, since the current Fleet Cruisers have the roles employed as part of the cap-limit, but a BV minus the heavier pc300's, but armed with the anti-munitions SAC / PIC.. or decked entirely with HVM / Shrike modules... wouldn't that be interesting to see? The current WitchHunter possesses this capabilty to a limited extent already. |

In 7.0 we have Mission Packs for the ship - buildable subsystems (0 RU cost) that instantly appear on the ship and make up the heavy weaponry. If you want, you can modify the ship weaponry yourself. You obviously are not trying hard enough! Or do you need some proper motivation?

Pff, there's only one person that can pull off that line ![]() I was merely thinking, since the Vaygr are returning somewhat to their nomadic and capitally important state, if their strength is going to become the sheer firepower and durability of their larger vessels, the HGN strength may become outright flexibility to the n'th degree. |

Quote ... wouldn't it just be spiffy to have your capship roll off the shipyard with the option to chose the secondary batteries you mounted on them? You can already do that in two ways: First is our implementation of different variants for each hull - like PoH and Defiance. Late configurations of battlecruisers are based off a common platform and outfitted differently for these two ship classes. Second is the Loadout Configuration System unique to PDS. It simulates you, before a battle outfitting a ship for a specific mission tasking. It does NOT involve "building" weapons on ships - this one we have thrown out of the window and ran over by a platoon of main battle tanks a long time ago. I should not have to justify why field modifications of that scale may not practically occur. Daniel - as usual, I just have to point out your prose in referring to other parties than yourself. |

A thousand pardons almighty lord of the PDS, 'twas merely an errant thought in this poor Captain's mind It shall not transpire a second time now that it has been explained to me thusly. |

Captain?! heh The roveing sub systems would be impossible with HW2s engine, tels got a strong point on the field modifcation. While that 35mm gun sure looks neat its pointless many times has flak been discredited and replaced- with heavier ship armor heavy kinetic slugs would do more then multiple small pellets. Have we looked into broad-side type armaments? think of the killing power of a quad 40mm cannon, the LDS penetration rate would make up for its rate of fire. The idea of a frigate with a hangar is amazeing! even if it couldent carry more then 1-2 that would make frigate groups much more versatile since they could disgorge bombers while running setting up an ambush you would never suspect- 3 frigates wouldent normaly raise an alarm but 3 frigates with thunderbolt bombers would cripple almost any ship thats alone- since theres already a light carrier out there ill save my ideas until i see it since that might just be the answer .What of gauss rifles and PPCs?(Pulse Plasma Cannon), the gauss rifle i speak of is very different from the norm mass driver, a powerful kinetic impact with EM after effects- the hit will knock your ship aside and the EM energy will play havoc with your systems. The PPC is just an energy variant of this except with a burning after effect that would be lethal to small ships since the cew would get exposure to the deadly gases and heat. |

1.) I care not about assaulting light strike craft. The 35mm would be primarily an anti-missile system and secondarily an anti-strike craft platform. 2.) The proponents of flak in the past have regarded it as a Divine Entity, sitting up there with Sajuuk and his vassals. Here we actually have a good representation of said proximity detonation weaponry. Jumping on the flak bandwagon is not a good idea - think for a bit, we might actually have something better. 3.) An FV might make a good pleasure yacht for weekend trips, but in a battlefield situation a frigate carrying a single squadron of strike craft (in reduced numbers, no less) would be much less effective than a Bloodhound or a Linebacker - it would take out the room for the pulsar weaponry, for one thing. 4.) Gauss rifles = magnetic-driven weapon = railguns. ARG640/1200. Next. 5.) PPC = plasma-based magnetic-driven weapon = PC300/LPC400. This is just essentially random spam - if you care to look closer at PDS, maybe you wouldn't design ships that wouldn't last two seconds in the battlespace. And finally, please refer to my avatar for the final verdict. Please, if you even get the urge to post at all, report to Tel first. He'll set you right. A starlight sharpshot magical girl!

The gauss rifle isent the same as the ARG it has no explosive component at all its a pure kinetic weapon that carries an EM charge that is spent on impact, heh though it is prolly redundant since the ARG is there and is similar. The PPC once again is differnt from LPC/PCs though once again prolly so similar that haveing 2 of them would just be a waste of space i still thought i should toss them out there. My thoughts on the the frigate carrier came after someone stated there was one already in use, you have pointed out why there isent one. I've been brain storming and comeing up empty handed as you can see im trying to think of a new weapon system- was thinking fast fireing missle tubes mounted on very small ships, these would provide an excellent screen of fire for ships to escape or attack since the multiple missles would act as flares distracting PDS and drawing weapon beads off the attacking/fleeing ship. |

Did you talk to Tel before you posted? Let me make this clear as well. ELECTROMAGNETIC PULSES ONLY PROPAGATE THROUGH ATMOSPHERES. The frigate carrier is also known as the DVE (devil ), the current Falconer drone carrier.Fast firing missiles are also known now as MRAM2 weaponry. Check before you post weapons ideas - I'm sure we already have a working variant of what you want. A starlight sharpshot magical girl!

First off Im going to say that i am not a physisist and i am quite willing (and happy) to be re-educated if i get this wrong but Quote While testing hydrogen bombs in outer space, hundreds of miles above the planet, American and Soviet scientists discovered that each atomic blast created a pulse of electromagnetic energy similar to conventional radio-made microwaves, but with energy so great that they erased magnetic memories and melted the microscopic junctions in transistors on the Earth below. ---- During one U.S. test, in July 1962, a hydrogen bomb was detonated approximately 650 miles in space, roughly where today's space shuttles orbit. Simultaneously, 2100 miles to the northeast, street lights went dark and burglar alarms began ringing on the Hawaiian islands. The reason was an electromagnetic pulse (EMP) produced by the blast -if a discussion of this gets going. Start a new thread on the Fluff boards and ill delete this post http://www.fas.org/irp/agency/army/tradoc/usaic/mipb/1997-1/merkle.htm This may be because the effects of the only EMP become manifest when the energys from the explostion hit the atmoshpere. However, i seem to remember that solar flares (big EM flares from the sun) will knock out sattalites well out of the earths atmoshpere and that there is an EM based field created when solar radiation hits the earths magnetic field (bow shock) which is a very very long way outside the atmosphere. Like i said, please let me know if im wrong Edited by BigFish on 24-09-2005 01:29 Rampent Kitty-basher
