PDSv7: First Impressions
hsuuperman
on the weapons loadout for the blade 20s was it supposed to have a AIC equipped? i thought they were supposed to be just PICs instead... i see beams shooting out w/none of the that old pulsar effect... just curious

TelQuessir
No more complaints about underpowered interceptors. They can eat frigates now. Disparity in weapon fx deliberate. Bite me Pfft

Don't question it, just enjoy it. The Blades pack serious heat now and can take down a frigate like a school of pirannhas stripping a carcass.

My first impression was OMFG! After that came these.
Assault Ion Cannons everywhere make them look cheap, and the Vagyr Lithium-Ion Cannon looks too white, not enough red when seen at a distance.
I like the Missile indicators.
Seems like it was years since I was last here

Methuselah
I love it!
And now that I only have 5 SP missions, I can achievably document them all! Hurrah!
Missile indicators are fabulous, the inclusion of Hiigaran-allied warships are a refreshing touch, perhaps even a step towards new factions for skirmishes :-)
You excelled yourselves with this one, congratulations to the entire PDS team!

Almost a three hour fight last night on a mega map and the game was functioning superb, right up to the crash to desktop when I tried to dock some HAC. Given that it was 2+50 game non-stop that was pretty darn good. Only sorta miss the missile trails, but think it better without. The new Vag corvette is sexy and good, but so far out of the box for them design-wise it will take some serious fluff to bring it about. Kudo's to the design and development team (I missed it on the boards... who is the developer?)

Balance... who cares! Welcome to the real er... well you know what I mean Cool

For the Vag, screw frigates! Strike-craft and caps walk in the park early and mid-game. Assuming you keep a coherant force, works for endgame as well.

Nice work Tel'. Solid performance for this Block.

I really like this "slash" effect of AA beams on QJE. Because of them I call this ships "Techno-party Cruiser-Carrier" Grin

First impressions, omg ssoooo many beams Grin very nice, and the missile icon very nice touch, looks better with out the trails. Love the new ships, the models are first rate!!! Shame about t change in the vag bomber loadout, used 2 love saturating the defence systems with missile swarms. but again really nice jobGrin
the problem isn't that people are breeding like rabbits, its that we're not dying like flys

BEST MOD OF ALL TIME FOR HW2.

All I can think of that would make it even better would be an entire set of new campains with a new story line that would put the new behamoths to their limits.

Oh, we're working on them campaigns. *points at Vaygr single-player campaign* See?

And, first impression, literally: Cool purple startup background. Pfft Better widescreen support too.

I remember, back in the glory days of HW1, watching with amazement as I constructed my first destroyers and cruisers. The endless stream of ion cannons towards the end of the game (especially if one salvaged a lot) were amazing to behold!!!

But when I fired up the out-of-the box HW2, only the Dreadnaught and Keeper gave one visceral sense of titanic power (and dread) that should come from massive mothership-scale warships. Everything else felt underpowered (like the Bentusi Harbor Ship, try firing on the Bentusi in HW1 for a comparison! *shudder*). Its just MHO, but no capital ship can look good firing midget-sized pea-shooters, even if it has 100 of them.

Well, PDS v7.0 brought back so many good nostalgic feelings of HW1 that I wanted to thank you for putting the VISUAL PUNCH back in capital ships!! Cool

I thought we were gona see the ship up there on the site header, the gold one next the the QJE...

Or am I just dumb?

Lavi - agree that in a mixed Lavi/Khopesh group, they pwn. And so cost-effective!

The upgraded Frigates-->DDs; The Cazador rocks (cheaper than an Avenger squadron!), but I had to adjust to its behavior - it acts like a Lothringen instead of a Tulwar.

Avengers are more worthwhile - their better armor and manouverability keeps them alive much longer; the LSFs are nice, too - and bombers seem *way* more effective now (love the mini-lances)...

Vagyr Quarinahs and other mini-DDs are a beautiful addition with their red plasma lances firing out in all directions.

The new Sorceress took some getting used to; I don't know about the extra 2 Merkavas bonded to her hull... but the quad-cannons up front are impressive!

Resource collectors are toast, now (less armor or what?).

Marquess Carriers - wonderful assault ships; not much in the way of hangar space, but they are fast and have nice PDS grids on 'em.

Agree with the Arcadia AxCV up-armor observation; a much harder nut to crack now.

How can the Arbiters get anything done with all of those heavy guns on them? Daaaaamn....

Failakas.. haven't played as the Vagyr yet... will try them out soon...

Main problem is system resources. I have an AMD 2Ghz system with 512 RAM and a Geforce 4200ti/64MB card... it is clearly not enough for a 5-player (1vs4) game... like two teams of 2 Expert AI each, and me as the single-team Sobani <--- too much for my system to handle Sad
I need to upgrade my vid card, at least.

Oh, and the voice traffic during battle is a vast improvement over what it used to be... "you are clearly not trying hard enough" - LOL

5-player match... hehe, my dream is a 3p match with no lag.

Well, I'm planning to upgrade my CPU to 2,5-3 GHz and maybe a GPU (from GeForce 3 Ti200 64mb to... hmm dunno what). 512 RAM may be a little to low for PDS (thats why I have 768 RAM).

I'm recently married, so my budget for MAN TOYS is down to nil... *sobs*

At any rate, RAM and video card are the next upgrades for me! Sometime... soon... I hope.

Guess who and who. Pfft

And yes, I'm running a Centrino 1.6 + 1024 MB RAM + Intel 915 Mobile graphics chipset, and yes I die - that's why we're working on PDS Lite. Optimized for slow systems and such.
