Introduction of Everyone
Mostly harmless
Its amazing how far you can get with a bottle of Talisker and a smile.

Oh forgot to mention. I'm a Endjinear so I, sometimes, know how things work not how they spell.

Ai! A wee dram o' Talisker is one of my favorites... when I can find it. I am stuck with a borish bottle of Balvenie at the moment.

Aris ... "pampered sardines??" you will fit in fine here! Gents you will fit in wonderfully here! The software master is Sun Tzu, as the OGL finds himself unsufferably overwhlmed with RL. I trust that both of your exceeding qualifications will be a wonderful addition. The primary 3D means to derive ships for Homeworld 2 and PDS is Maya, although I am under the impression there are other means to do so. I will leave that up to those who are far more smart on the subject.

"Hodding" is putting the 'artwork' on the model so that it looks... well the way the ships do. Again I leave that discussion to Suz Tzu, who is indeed the expert.

Again welcome Gents.

Sun Tzu
I am no expert when it comes to graphic stuff. However I know that Maya is not necessary. It looks easier when you have it, but you can model and texture ships in any program that you like, provided that 1) you export the model in wavefront obj format and 2) textures are either in dds or tga with alpha channel (the alpha is used for team colours). Importing into the game (ie putting the model in a .hod file) can then be done easily with a utility like CFHodEdit.

Gents - I have three zipped .obj files from Dei's updated Taiidan Fleet work found at this thread on Relic: http://forums.relicnews.com/showthread.php?t=85003&page=1&pp=15

If these can be made operational we could in conjunction with the HW1 ships transfered, the Vanaar Jet in its massiveness and some of the Vaygr ships (that we alledge in PDS fiction are Taiidan work anyway {Shamshir, QJE) have a viable Taiidan Fleet for the Mod. I can e-mail them to Sun Tzu or whomever wants them to take a look at.

This has been a desire of the PDS effort for a very long time... three years I think.

Guys, this is not a script or 3dgfx handling thread. Thanks...

Feel free to bring that up in proper location.

Oui, I don't need the wig with my latest hairdo and a nice Venetian hat (along with a few hundred bucks worth of vanity spending). In all PDS practicality I don't need to comb, too, despite its length. Call it sorcery as usual.

Today I look very British in an antique cotton shirt that my dad got in the UK some 12 years ago, time for some Irish lamb stew.

I'm not exactly overwhelmed by RL or feminine wiles (besides acting like everyone's favourite dark elf queen at work - look, I have 3 dark elf apprentices too!) but that's where the monetary and personal grandeur lies, so another Pfft for you. I don't know why everyone so loves me lording over them (most of all the guests) but they do so...

On the other hand I have management school to deal with (lots of projects) along with ample practise in domestic management that I wish I didn't have to partake in, thus, the excuse of "busy in RL" is at least half justified.

Not to mention my extremely hectic exercise and suntanning schedule crammed into before-work hours.

*sticks his head out of his cave* Hi, all. Just recently, I've been asked to help with weapons scripts for a friend's budding mod, so I've been warming up for it by importing select ships from 7.3.0 into vanilla. It's quite fun, really. I was just wondering how things were going over here.

Knare
I never posted here before now, so I figured I would.

I am a 16 year old guy who lives in the US (NY state to be specific). I stumbled across PDS after my brother stumbled across it in December of '06. I was amazed and dumbfounded by the complexity of it. I quickly delved into the carnage. After playing it, I realized that I would never go back to vanilla HW2 and probably barely play another. PDS easily out does complex because the game for that take waaaay too long and have too much to worry about as far as stats goes and draws you away from what victory.

I actually played PDS once before Dec 06 but I was confused by it and rejected it. I never really understood the purpose of the mod and I never fully tested it out. Now, I am glad that I did finally test out PDS.

I have posted before this but I never properly introduced myself. Oh, feel free to refer to me as Mike.

TelQuessir
Good to get to hear about your background Knare - hope you'd appreciate V11 as well because it finally is a properly refined version of First Era. Oh, and the beta is out.

Goose
Just thought I'd introduce myself, I'm goose, female, 20, game... excessively - I've been reading through the forums a lot recently, downloaded 7.3.2 and have been acclimatising myself to just how -different- it is from base HW2. Unfortunately I've got no experience with modding, and lack any software or knowledge to help, though I've never been averse to learning, when I have the time to.

I've done a fair bit of writing as well in my existence and from what I hear, I'm quite proficient though I'm my own biggest critic or however you'd put it - I hope I can contribute to the mod at some stage and time though how is currently lost on me, but I think it'll have to wait til I'm any good at it - I only just managed to successfully beat a scenario (Rise of a Nation if you're interested) and only had the QJEs and Carrier left - none of them particularly healthy.

ZANGiEF
I'm Alexei from Russia, 23 years old. Actually I'm with you since v3.x, but the first version I dl'ed was 4.8 (still keeping it for history on my hdd), almost never posted at relic forums and penguin mayhem. Not much to add from my side, you (the devteam) are great talented guys who made HW "the way it's meant to be played".

TelQuessir
@ Goose - you would probably like the new V11 Beta 5 scenarios. They are designed to be actually winnable without excessive casualties. I'd be glad to orientate you on the basics of modding... or the supporting roles that contribute very greatly to the success of PDS. Like concept producting and story writing. Which I need to do for the V11 scenario/campaign cast. Since it's actually stable and all.

@ Zangief - good to see an appreciative guest! As for talented, I digress, in both RL and here I achieve by screwing things up royally Smile As for adding I believe that detailed after action reviews, no matter how crude, give me a lot to think about regarding game design. That's why the scenarios spawned so many changes for beta5.

I won't know how the light cruisers are too fragile for fast attack ops/beam countermeasures too effective otherwise.

Makaze is Not Dead

Hi all. Makaze reporting back in after a good long period of time AWOL, for RP and critic duty.

Kudos to you on v11, Tel. It's teh awesome. Apologies for the Landlubber's RP, which kind of died anyway, and to anyone else that I might have left hanging.

TelQuessir
I'm doing a better RP based on a stabilized version of Landlubbers, far in the future. It's starting off as a short story. I'll deploy the first introductory chapter tomorrow.

Makaze
I'll look forward to it.

Hello everyone. another new person reporting.

I have been playing PDS since way back in version 4 and i love it. i gotta say 6.1 is still my favorite but they are all great.

anyway I'm a 20 something college student working on my doctorate in history. I love anime and my favorite anime creator is Leiji Matsumoto (Battleship Yamato, Galaxy Express). Gundam and all that other stuff is cool to but space trains for the win.

looking forward to meeting everyone

Keep at it and you'll get more PDS V11 updates weekly. Of course I need external motivation if it's going to be non profit work. Sorry, I run a RL business. So now a $$$$head XD

Hy everyone.

I am just a 26 years old french guy knowing Homeworld since the "Cataclism" one.

Then I've lost my mind in the "Homeworld I" coming back to the origin.

I finished both of them withought walkthrough (particuraly that mission in "Cataclism" in witch you have an hundreds of ion fregate, wainting for, you just around your first objective, thanks to stealth technology"... So what a surprise when I didn't manage to pass the fourth level of "Homeworld 2"... Just spend a couple of hour on it... I might spend some more...

Anyway I discovered recently PSD mod. Few days ago in fact.

And now, I think I'm going to enjoy it.

Nice job.
