Spectre wasn't operationalised as the model I got was untextured. Battlestar/BBX - that's going to be the centrepiece of a new First Era update I'm doing, replacing the mothership. No one sends out an unarmed factory ship to do battle with 'undead' Vagyr hordes. |

Sun, I was referring to the BBX. I have seen Spectre previously. Also a great design.

Drthvdr's ship designs should serve as a good template for future vessel development. They're practical, have a compact centre of mass and don't have a thousand parts waiting to fall off during combat maneuvering. I'm speaking for the Spectre and the Taiidan assault BB in the other (BBX) thread. That means the design process doesn't need (micro)management from us all. Saves time and effort. |

You should look at the "macross" type trails in the V11 OOB thread. Like WW2 over London, yes? |

*randomly appears* Some pictures of a duel I had against the computer a while back: An Arbiter IV sneaks behind a Vaygr line during a battle http://img106.imageshack.us/img106/54...044eh4.jpg Another Arbiter picture http://img504.imageshack.us/img504/87...056cd7.jpg I really like Arbiters... http://img338.imageshack.us/img338/73...058le8.jpg A dying Deliverance gets in a last few shots http://img59.imageshack.us/img59/363/...060jb6.jpg The line of fire in this battle http://img258.imageshack.us/img258/54...043af2.jpg The Vaygr forces http://img389.imageshack.us/img389/80...047pw9.jpg I won that duel, But I lost my Deliverance . It was a Deliverance,Arcadia, Arbiter IV CGE (I think) vs. an Acchememnes(sp), an al-mokour (sp), and that other ship whose name I forgot. Taking a step away from that theater, we see a Higaran fleet in operations. An Arbiter shoots someone with lots more ships in the background. http://img510.imageshack.us/img510/56...007ql7.jpg A Deliverance fires with the support of two cruisers and multiple strike-craft squadrons. http://img77.imageshack.us/img77/2791...009ri8.jpg A Bloodhound enters the fray (at least I think it's a bloodhound) http://img374.imageshack.us/img374/24...010lh9.jpg *disappears* Edited by TheSizzler on 19-03-2007 21:49 |

Come to think of it, the lack of engine trails in Knare's picture makes it look that much more 'realistic'. But realistically in a computer simulated battle management interface (sci fi version 3D Aegis system) we'd have projected velocity vectors and the like to ease situational awareness. Where should we go? |

Ahh, you need my password? I don't think I have that much stuff other than the screenshots worth downloading on there... E-mail: th3sizzl3r@yahoo.com Pword: yourmom (hey, it's easy to remember) The file should be in the 'my pictures' folder. If I remember correctly, it's the only file I had up there. |

Where should we go?" I think that part of the reason the mods supported on this site still have a loyal following, is that aside from the gameplay, large scale conflict just looks really cool. There's so much ordnance in the air (ether?) that it feels as if these ships are fully crewed by desperate individuals. I feel that the trails add to that sense of local chaos, so I'm in favor of them. Strangely, I think that's why I also prefer mass driver weapons over beam weapons. There's something about that WWII carrier gunner against the kamikaze that feels more noble that the inevitable slow hull reduction of a group of frigates versus a cruiser. Mind you, I've had some beers, and just finished watching Band of Brothers again... |

You'll love the V11 Vaygr ship setups then. Most of the weapons are ballistic, with some heavy-hitting primary beams for precision work. Since as we all know ballistic weapons aren't the best choice given the typical ranges of space warfare, long range/high speed skirmishing rarely gives decisive results but is awesome fun... until you run into an ambush of those Hiigaran 8x100mm massdriver array ships. Then your finely built scout battlecruiser rapidly gets disintegrated flying through the hail of solid shot. Non-maneuver based fleet actions are less dramatic - who has the largest firepower output or weapons coordination wins the day. Beams provide constant-damage, high accuracy fire while massdrivers while inefficient in hit rate do tremendous damage to all targets... because no one invests in ballistic armour anymore. It gets too heavy and goes nowhere against beam-armed ships. |
