That is Norsehound's concept map. What of it? |

Inert- that map was being used as the basis for PDS'verse for the last year or so. While I am partical to it, having worked with Norse to make it fit most of the fluff writers desires at the time if it is not a good starting point for the PDS team at this point then I would recommend that we begin the process of establishing a new map. I will continue to use this map for my fiction writing and recommend that we continue to use it. Of course I am biased. Thoughts? |

I am using this map for our fiction as well. I hope to be able to match Captain Talbock with my homely Indian matron turned fleet commander ![]() |

Gotta wonder how the Itaar fit in, though. Maybe they are extreme isolationists? |

This is how it works in my fiction... derived from much haggling with Norse about the nature of the Taiidan and the state of the PDS'verse. The Itaar are part of the Kush Confederation although semi-autonomous. They where part of the metropolitian segment of the Taiidan Empire for its duration, and have a significant Taiidan population. Prior to that they had been part of the Hiigaran nation that was erradicated i.e. the planets given a choice of surrender or die. It is very complex in that it has many systems who are very happy at being free of Imperial entanglement, while other systems miss the glory (and wealth) that was theirs during the rein of the Taiidan. In my fiction the Vaygr have ordered the Imperial Taiidan to invade Itaar in attempt to widen the war for the Hiigaran's. The capital has fallen and many of the Itaarian star systems have gone over to the Taiidan, while the remainder of the Kush Confederation fights them with seconded Hiigaran ships and weapons and ships bought from the Elyssian's. A nicely convoluted plot line that allows for lots of fluff and fiction writing and plenty of room for some decently developed battles... assuming I can get someone to finish Dei's ships. Which reminds me.. I should be working on that. Edited by yasotay on 04-05-2006 02:46 |

Could you have a look at the new version of the map posted in the "7.2 polishing" thread and tell me what should be changed? I suspect the location for Cush federation should be on the "northern" side. And are Elyssian really Hiigaran allies? |

Done and the Elyassians (this is the correct Norsehound spelling) are a neutral party like China. Itaar should be under the Hiigaran Naval Coalition umbrella so give the green to the E boys. Integrate Itaar into the Cush Federation, there is no need for yet another Hiigaran protected Third World nation lying about needing personal attention for fluff. At Galactic North West in that open space reate a Kassi nation - coordinate with Ironwatsas on this matter. I will also be needing a Ravinder Democratic Republic nation the size of the IVF if our RP efforts should continue. So keep this in mind for next month, but or else no changes other than the above paragraph, and what is highlighted in your other thread. And thanks. Kassi like the IVF reside in highly militarised bastions and are enemies of both the Vagyr Crusaders and the Elyassians. And yes, to strike at the Crusaders they fly right through Elyassian space on deep space raids similar to what the Nalthoran converted liners and HNI forces do. Actually, I believe it would make more sense (to me) if we have it like it was: We replaced Levii with Cush, a change Norsehound made. Also, I think Itaar should just be another neutral nation, or perhapse replace Itaar, which currently lack any fluff, with the Kassi Nation. Thirdly, I believe it to be more realistic to just mark the current Ravinder Republic as a small dot, representing a nation with one or only a few star systems. In current RP, that seems the most likely status of the RR. |

Oops, sorry, it seems I have re-opened Pandora's box ![]() I'll wait for a consensus to emerge or a persistent dissensus to be settled by a final decision to make changes. Edited by Sun Tzu on 22-05-2006 09:39 |

Thorin, shut up. If you actually bothered to read the other thread, what SunTzu said is what I do not want. Ever. It is plainly a complete waste of time which stagnates SunTzu into said box. You WILL give me feedback WHEN there is time to react to your request for changes and NOT when the time has come to finish the project and start another one! NOW GET MOVING! Feedback is feedback, Tel. It may not always what you want. And this, honestly, was what I had to say. Especially since this drastically changes the continuity of my own RP, and extends the length of its voyage. |

Gentlemen- much a'do about nothing I fear. While I agree with Tel that we ought to stabilize the map, I also recommend that there is of course room for discussion. Last time we stabilized the map and OGL closed input there where no mention of the independent nations such as the Kassi nation or a Ravinder Democratic Republic. That was somewhat less than a year ago. Since the galaxy is exceedingly three dimensional, it is possible for smaller nations to thrive above and below the big fish. This is why it is possible to have Elyassian space under the Vaygr Realm without war and why it might even be possible for some of the smaller nations to sail over or under the big fish to attack their enemies. Might I recommend that we discuss a means by which we reconsider the state of the galaxy every now and then? I do NOT mean that we suddenly have the "grand empirium of squwash" suddenly replace a major faction... but it ought to be big enough for smaller adventures. I think if we have someone show up means to support a new nation with new ships and interest we find a means to do so. My opinion only of course. Oh and Sun Tzu - one must kick the ant hill now and again to see if they are still alive... ![]() |

Mmm...Going to have to disagree a little bit, yasotay. It's true that the universe is three-dimensional, but the vast majority of stars are along the plane of the galaxy. The "height" of the galaxy is much less than its "width. It's possibly to have a third party above or below the larger nations, but only if those larger nations did not choose to expand the easy route -- above or below. |

Well that plane of the galaxy is also very deep. It is a suggestion that would certainly make for some interesting strategic issues if one had to think about the enemy territory above or below you. I do however realize we have no means to make it more than a discussion. |

Strategic discussions are more than welcome, including for subject matters pertaining to Cush Federation individual nations like the Itaar. However Thorin practically making SunTzu change the map on just a random IDEA that holds no merit is just plain disgusting in the spirit of open discussion. Thus, my reaction. |

I was in no way making him do anything. I simply offered a different way of presenting the situation. Whether or not he interpreted it that way is not my fault. However, if this is the way the map will stay, I might as well think up some names for the individual nations of the federation. |

For a start we do have the races you wished included in the map, which is thankfully, finalised as it is now for our strategic discussions. Know that little details not crucial for the conduct of transgalactic warfare can be added much later. |

Is the map dealing with the whole galaxy or just a point of interest, to us? A galaxy is just so unimaginably big. |

Mostly - it is the entire galaxy, with the major races and political entities. Certainly there is potential for a vast array of lesser fifedoms and nations. Because of the nature of the game there is no desire to have a galaxy of 53,439 star nations. Of course it is an interesting consideration for strategic discussion. As there is such a potential for a huge number of planets with life sustainment, it might be that only those that have a desire to be larger or technologically and economically progressive that are parts of the larger political entity. It would be very possible that there are numerous systems that are very much against the policy of the larger state that are ignored because they don't participate in the government. In a galaxy little planets are not of that much import. Of course if someone finds out that half of your planet is made of natural gold... your screwed. |
