Further fate of Battlestar hull ?
mrWHO
Well, with all those new stuff around, it looks like BBX is outdated even before it went for service.
Any ideas for BBX modernisation?
It would be a big waste of good .hod to simply retire it Sad.

Archangel
The SHARG system still holds quite some punch, and the firepower concentrated on the BBX will still make it a serious thret...plus I believe it will already be fitted with 5G CIWS and secondary batteries...

yasotay
I believe that several of the hulls that were in development remain their. To my knowledge none of them have been retired.

Methuselah
I doubt very much that the Battlestar hulls were designed to become obsolete so quickly. The Prince survived 6 generations of modern warfare and is still a formidable opponent. I expect that the Battlestar will, once fully operation, provide us with a warfighting asset for generations still to come.

MarieHawke
2 generations, actually. 3G = Hgn_Battlecruiser_old, 4G = Hgn_battlecruiser_old4g for the in-game ship files.

The current ship is the Deliverance - different armor and internal layout, much more convenient, such as mess halls near the drive systems for the finest in plasma-fried Hiigaran desert crab and aquatic hippo. Pfft
A starlight sharpshot magical girl!

yasotay
desert crabs are an endangered species... shame, shame. :topic:

Ironwatsas
Also desert crabs are supposed to be very VERY flammible (when not drained properly) according to my "research".

As for the battlestar, it deserves a chance at least. A vessel of it's type would be very benafical but ONLY when multiple large supercapital ships (i.e. Al'khalid, Al'mou'akar, ect.) are present. or in the (HIGHLY UNLIKLEY) event the HGN attempts to intamadate someone or something into surrendering. This ship will also give a huge morale boost to the Hiigaran population and navy. Of course this is all Obvious to the HGN command staff and the Daiimid (and everyone elese for that matter). I'm just trying to say What everyone else is saying...
I WANT ME THAT THERE BATTLESTAR!

yasotay
At least a fun 'bismark' scenario with one battlestar being chased (maybe) by several Vaygr supercaps....

Ironwatsas
Good idea yasotay. A battlestar (with or without escort) fighting an Al'Kahlid, two or three Achaemenes, a CV in the back, a few squadrons of sarecens or HAC 2's, Maybe some Shamshirs/Falikas or something like that. It would make for some intresting micromanegment plus the tactile satisfaction of watching an entire vaygr battlegroup get mowed down at their own game. Once we figure out our little CIWS problem, we will have a mind numbingly powerful vessel more than worthy of it's own trailer.

Glacialis
Against those odds, even the battlestar would die.

I have a strange fondness for ships that cause jaws to drop as it exits hyperspace, I call it the JD factor.

Ironwatsas
And if we had some sort of superbattlestar...:rol:

No no I'm getting too far ahead of myself. Ok, new idea. Battlestar and HGN engeneering battalion (and SIZEABLE escort force of course) going on preliminary shakedown criuse. You know newscasters, fancy dress gala, crisining (or "Sajuukining" and what not), that sort of crap. BUT vaygr spies find out about this, and send in an interception force(after "convinently" coming down with food poisioning[take that ya desert crab murderin' varmints]). They first attack with a CV, Infiltrators, Sarecens, Pioneers, Sphais/Quorniahs, and one or two destroyers.
After the prilimanary engagment HGN reinforcments arrive (two LiirHras, Imperetor/Harsuuk, 3 or 4 Avenger squadrons, 2 Thunderbolt IV squadrons, 3 Bloodhounds, 2 Cazadors/Tulwar 1s, and an Arbiter IV) to take on main vaygr force (1 Al'khalid/QJE, 2 destroyers, 6 or 7 battle/missile frigates, and the CV itself, plus its fighter screen[HAC IIs, Shamshirs, Failakas], and MAYBE a shipyard, and any survivours of the primary attack) basicly turning this into a genreal engagment (but with the Battlestar!). This is just a rough idea for an S&D scenario concept. Feel free to sift through it and take what you want (I'm just an idea dispenser around here) as long as you give me SOME credit

Archangel
I doubt that a vaygr commander would attack that powerful a ship on short notice. Especially based on vague intelligence information, with hiigaran reinforcements only a short way off.

Ironwatsas
Good point. But vaygr covert ops has probably known about this for a while now. A project as big as the Battlestar would be nearly impossible to keep classified. So this attack would most likely be a culmination of months of planning and preparation. Also the Battlestar would not be fully outfitted yet and the reinforcements would probably have to be scrambled just to get there in time, and the vaygr would probably have been anticipating (and been waiting for reinforcments). Of course this would in all likleyhood have been a elite specal operations battlegroup sent to sabotage the HGN's new superweapon. Of course this is just a concept scenirio to expand upon.

A few QJEs should be able to make a sizeable contribution to the vagyr forces, since the Battlestar isn't very manoeverable, then the manoeverable QJEs should be quite effective.
Seems like it was years since I was last here

Ironwatsas
Yes, QJEs would even the odds a bit, but the Battlestar would have an escort picket consisting of (most likely) a Marquess B, 6 Rescource collectors, a refinery ship, 4 or 5 frigates (Bloodhound/Herald/Tulwar), and the Marquess' fighter screen (Blades,Thunderbolt Is, Gladius As). The Vaygr primary force would consist mostly of frigates and 1E fighters and corvettes (Pioneers, Sarecens, Irrish shels, Thannar IIIs, etc) in managable numbers. The QJE would fit in well with that group, if a larger main fleet came in later. If the vaygr had something like the LiirHra, that would work even better, but they don't...

...yet.

I would normaly say it is sacrilage to suggest that the vagyr get something lir ha like, but since deliverance II > Lir Ha... I might make a small allowance in my heart for them to have such a ship.

Ironwatsas, that's just silly. Give a hard reason why 'vaygr covert ops' would have known about it for some time, and then I'll take you seriously.

My perspective is that the battlestars are unfeasible with the current trend in the HGN and the battlespace. No need for ultraheavy bombardment stations - space superiority is the name of the game, kiddies.

a ship that is capable of fighting and defeating several cruiser sized targets at once sounds very space superior to me...

Anyway, about the vaygr intelligence, when we first discussed the BBX and its role in a scenario not unlike this one, we concluded that vaygr intelligence knows of the existence of the BBX, its location (the hiigara system, they learned after the almost-debacle with MS-02) and a very rough estimate of the progress. The james bond style lone spy alarming the fleet is pretty...foolish, though.

And they clearly understand that this ship would be a very powerful enemy, and be it just as fleet-in-beeing (because the vaygr would need a force strong enough to deal with it if it moved, and thus could not send this force elsewhere). Therefore it is best destroyed while it is not yet operational.

The force disposition is rubbish, really. No sane vaygr (no vaygr jokes please, they can be very sane in military matters) commander would send out 1E ships to deal with 5G CIWS. Simply shooting the pilots and scraping the ships would accomplish more. And you can assume that a BBX on shakedown would be fully manned, with a sizeable support force (I am thinking 2-3 Arbiter CF and CGEs, 2 Support frigates, a bishop or maybe an armed transport, maybe a CVL for fighter cover. plus a few escort frigates), and the vaygr force should be accordingly large.
Since this is a mission with a very high risk ( I would calculate with a loss ratio of 30%+ even if everything goes smooth), they would send in a force that could deal with the BBX, a support force of any sie the HGN could assemble without warning the vaygr (large numbers of warships leaving their post at the same time tend to be noted) AND be able to fight their way out once the cavalery arrives. A small Spec ops unit would be target practice. We are talking about 2-4 QJEs, 3-4 Al-Kahlids in the Supercaps alone! Plus Carriers, support forces, Heavy and light cavalery etc etc etc...

Before I write a scenario background on this - try looking at an account of a WW2 naval battle. Use that as an example.

warhammer555
Didn't someone put the battlestar 4G into the new scenarios?
