For anything and everything I think of in the middle of a battle. First: We need larger maps. MUCH larger; Think on the scale of the Galaxy maps of HW1 (I'm hoping someone knows what I am talking about). I just think it would make PDS and it's changes work so much the better. As in..Make it be multiple systems; with the emptiness of space in between them. So you'd have battles over control of entire systems, not just to destroy the enemy. If you get what I am saying. For example; You'd have your main fleet. Shipyard, carriers, ships of the line. ..I mean, hell, you can even have a shipyard (See: More than the ship; I mean carriers and shipyards churning out warships for the front) far in the rear. Then you have your forward bases; Re-arming and repairing, ect ect. Then you have the main battle (Come on, against an AI, there is always one huge battle in the center) that you are pumping ships into. All of this over a HUGE distance; As you'd except in SPACE combat, correct? And then..you have your SOG, sitting far, far in the enemy's rear; quietly observing their activity..waiting for the right moment to strike. All of this, in one map; You commanding the entire battle of that sector; Not just a small engagement. Yes, of course there are the obvious graphical limitations...only so many ships before it comes unplayable...But, (with my limited knowledge of modding HW2), I'd bet there's a way to say 'Hey, that ship is hundreds of kilometers away; Why should it be affecting my game at that distance? How about I do THIS so that it, for all intents and purposes, ceases to exist out of a range of ...20 Km.' Of course, this is just my random idea, but still. Well, there you have it. I've had this idea after playing the last few days; I thought it might be possible. Second: We need some sort of system-wide sensor sweep; Say, active sonar on a larger scale; Including the fact that it reveals YOU to the enemy. Of course, this would be costly, not able to be readily abused. This is merely to alleviate the annoyance of searching out that last enemy ship hiding in the corner of the map. Thirdly: Capital ship docking. Say you take your shipyard. Add on some docking arms; or an external scaffold. A severely damaged Battlecruiser, just off the front, arrives; It has multiple subsystems(weapons) entirely destroyed, beyond battlefield repair. As such, it docks with the shipyard. Naturally, the shipyards highly trained crew easily repairs the ship and its systems, returning it to full combat efficiency. Always had that idea. Now, can it be done? I have no idea. More to come. Enjoy. "With all this power at its disposal, there is no question that the Beast Mothership is currently the most dangerous vessel in the Galaxy. It is not just a starship. Yea! That would actually be real cool! And like youd have a huge galaxy split down the center by rubble and blown up ship hulls. This would be really cool. It would also make games last A LOT longer. But i got spare time =) Its the summer! This would also make the more tactical side of V12 more evident and realistic as youve got battle over a large area where overwhelming forces doesnt neccessarily work as well as a small, quick and tactical strike with cloak capabilities. Only problem i see is hyper space. If the maps are that huge, and you dont have enough money to hyperspace that far, and your enemy does, then he could just hyperspace through your line to your building base. Boom, boom. All youve got is a bunch of frontline troops. Then itd be the cat and mouse scenario :muffy:Also, you'd need to up the ship limit too, because if its a huge map you need alot of ships to defend it. But great idea ![]() May the PDS be with you.

Yes; That was a large part of my idea; I quite like operating a force behind enemy lines. Quote B0nes wrote: Only problem i see is hyper space. If the maps are that huge, and you dont have enough money to hyperspace that far, and your enemy does, then he could just hyperspace through your line to your building base. Well; We could eliminate the cost of hyperspace, if in range of a module. However, using the ships own drives would still require the normal cost of RUs. Quote B0nes wrote: Also, you'd need to up the ship limit too, because if its a huge map you need alot of ships to defend it. But great idea ![]() Why of course! I've already done it for my normal maps, which makes it awesome. If laggy at times. Also, thank you ![]() Edit: Quote B0nes wrote: :muffy:And that is quite possibly the most awesome conjunctive use of smileys I've ever seen. Quote B0nes wrote: Only problem i see is hyper space. All youve got is a bunch of frontline troops. Then itd be the cat and mouse scenario :muffy:..I just thought of a solution: Some sort of anti-hyperspace probe. They would pull ANYTHING using hyperspace drives out of it; Friendly or enemy. That would add yet more realism, because the player will have to create corridors for his ships to go through. ...The huge map theory would also give you a much greater application of mine fields; So that an enemy force would be hard pressed to slip through unfettered. Nearly every, if not all ships in PDS have the 'lay mines' function enabled. In my limited search of the forums, I have found no explanation for this. I have always wondered why they were there, yet not, as I have often run into scenarios where being able to put a couple of minefields down would work wonders. Therefore..I vote we reinstate mines. I know you can make them stay there indefinitely, as they should, so why not? This would go well with the larger map theory, as well. Example: Forward rearming and repair base. You can't spare sufficient forces to defend it. However, you have several ships capable of laying mines...and an excess of said munitions aboard one of you supply craft( Say a bulk transporter of war material, supporting the rearming operation.) Bam. Instant defense. "With all this power at its disposal, there is no question that the Beast Mothership is currently the most dangerous vessel in the Galaxy. It is not just a starship. I agree with the sensor ping thing to find that last elusive ship. Also I found IT-fog of war?...is it?, is a good size map, horizontally and vertically. I dunno if its possible but perhaps a bit more interesting stuff/objectives in the maps would be good. I know the vast bulk of space is just space, but us sapient apes tend to fight over actually things and objectives, fighting conflicts in and around them, most human conflict and therefor naval activity/static defenses will revolve around the immediate protection of these actual objects, such as asteroids, planets and such, with the rest of space left alone, so yeah, if the mod comes with more maps, I reckon they need something fairly important/interesting to fight over in the middle. My main gripes are just finding that last ship and there being few maps around the size of IT-fog of war. Aside from that tis a good play.

Yea, I agree about the bigger maps and sensor ping. One of the things I used to do in HW1 was to send out battle groups in different directions (some of which would be cloaked fighters) so I could attack from different directions. It seems like the HW2 PDS maps are too small to do stuff like that; whenever I try that I get spotted. (Of course, maybe I just suck ).

Higher ship caps in general. I like to have my main base, and a forward base. Problem with this? I barely have enough forces to adequately defend the MAIN base; Much less the forward. This is during an offensive, of course; But still, a smart opponent would strike your bases while you are distracted. That, or mines being reinstated. Mines that don't disappear. And of course, the battle barge needs to be fixed... Dear lord that thing is a monster... More price + more build time + LESS BUILD FREQUENCY. Just saying. Oh awesome idea. We should reinstate the Sobani task force. That, coupled with the basis of V12 (Ability to have a stealth fleet), would be amazing. We also need some sort of SF version of the Arbiter; As in, it's extremely hard to detect, fast, and still hard hitting. Or something. How difficult would it be to convert some HW1 and HW:C maps into HW2 and HW DS maps? I know at least a few Cataclysm maps that I could play for hours on before finally beating.

There is a homeworld legacy map pack; Just look on relic, tanis shipyards. Ok. We need to be able to build base ship hulls. I.e., Arbiter. Just a hull, with critical systems and engines onboard. From there, we build the weapons systems and such to our specifications, ground up. That'd be awesome. And easy to do, I think. The lack of official recognition/shooting me down (See: Tel) Is rather disconcerting.

Tel's an insanely busy guy. Ya get used to it. How hard is it to edit those? I remember downloading them but finding it annoying as you had to continuously move your base to keep up with the resource supply. http://www.nationstates.net/feazanthia

YES. That's the only problem. Small RU amounts in asteroids. Also, yes I know Tel is busy; lol..I was just sayin. Insanely busy to the point of unexplained muscle weakness, rapid weight loss, long auburn-tinted hair and a constipation the size of a hyper-V torpedo. Does that count for an explanation? The end results are satisfying though, and nothing's stopping me from refining my concepts of V12 on this forum until the time I get to actually blitz the modding community again. Ah, the joys of the working world, you'll see what I mean someday ![]() |

You can put them into PDS yourself. I think it just takes a couple hundred hours i've tried the system battle concept before and rammed into the game's 500 km map limit. |

Oh, where to start... Quote First: We need larger maps. MUCH larger; Nice. There's a plus in the addition of tactics, large scale combat, and it would look like a beta for a HW gal-sim, which would be awesome. The minuses on the other hand are: as Tel said the ''only'' 500km map limit, a lot of space = a lot of work, a lot of space = a lot of ships = a lot of lag, battles will be sporadic at best with that much space except the occasional base assault and battles for systems with substantial Ru presence. And even than it would still pretty much be throw ships into one spot of the map and thus you get the same result. Quote Second: We need some sort of system-wide sensor sweep; That won't do, especially not with battle noise (a dozen several kiloton nuclear explosions concentrated in a relatively small area can pretty much screw your sensors), stealth ships and various forms of debris floating around. However dedicated survey ships, or sensor ships if you prefer are a good idea. And I don't mean just scouts I mean destroyer or cruiser size ships with extensive sensor systems. Quote Thirdly: Capital ship docking. I have expressed my disgust for shipyards several times now because there just sitting ducks. You could launch a missile swarm from half the map away and it still wouldn't be able to evade them. Not to mention strategic beam weapons. Example: take a cruiser sized hull, add EW, ECM, ECCM systems, add stealth capability, add a large beam weapon, move it after every shot. and add an equally stealthy ''spotter'' ship closer to the shipyard, and bum. say by, by to the shipyard, unless you commit your entire force to sweep the area for said ship and leave your shipyard vulnerable to conventional forces. A better option would be a fleet support ship with a hyperspace beacon or gate that calls in capital sips trough hyperspace and eventually a dedicated repair ship (a bigger, faster repairing version of the res collector that would also lack onto the ship to repair it.) Quote We could eliminate the cost of hyperspace, if in range of a module. However, using the ships own drives would still require the normal cost of RUs. Actually that's brilliant, although I have no idea how to implement it. Quote Some sort of anti-hyperspace probe. They would pull ANYTHING using hyperspace drives out of it; Friendly or enemy The friend or enemy part would be tricky if not impossible to accomplish. Quote Nearly every, if not all ships in PDS have the 'lay mines' function enabled. That was an old trick from v6 or even v5 i think. You order your ships to lay mines and they don't go running of to the other half of the map to attack a bloody mobile refinery. However they also won't attack a battleship a km away, so it requires a doze of micro management. Quote Therefore..I vote we reinstate mines A careful commander would send a scout ship first. Either detecting the mines or getting blown apart by them, either way, once you become aware of the mines you just launch a high- yield explosive and you've got yourself a hole. However a stealthy space bomb which would act like a missile with a high yield and a substantial sensor stealth might find its uses in the chaos of the battlefield. Quote It seems like the HW2 PDS maps are too small to do stuff like that; Yeah a little, besides the enemy could detect you very far out in v11, in v12 it should be another story. Quote I dunno if its possible but perhaps a bit more interesting stuff/objectives in the maps would be good Completely agree with you. The Babylon 5 mod has implemented objective based gameplay very successfully. Ofcourse there should be rewards for capturing the objective. A mining base, several remote turrets or stuff like that. Quote And of course, the battle barge needs to be fixed... Remove the bloody thing. It's totally tactically unpractical (or at least strategically). Or fix it I got a soft spot for that beast anyway.Quote How difficult would it be to convert some HW1 and HW:C maps into HW2 and HW DS maps?So easy you could do t yourself. It only requires proper tools and a lot of time. However I don't know if wormholes can be implemented. That would require a lot of work. Quote Just a hull, with critical systems and engines onboard. From there, we build the weapons systems and such to our specifications, ground up. That'd be awesome. And easy to do, I think. Practical yes, Easy to do yes, realistic NO. What possible explanation could someone have to explain weapon systems just ''popping up'' on the hull, and don't forget the engineering required to do such a thing. An arbiter crew certainly wouldn't have the know-how, or the equipment to do such a thing, besides where would you store all the various weapon systems on an Arbiter class cruiser. Except if you devise a barge that wold travel from the builder to the arbiter with the weapon system, crew, and equipment to install it. Which would again be unpractical. Oh, and the Sobani would have a rough equivalent in the stealth option, therefore they would be redundant as a faction. Which reminds me. We talked about the various research directions, however what will be the difference between the Vaygr and Hiigaran sides. Or are we going to have just one race, and rely solely on the various upgrade directions for diversity. |

My whole custom ship loadouts idea was that it'd be done in very close proximity to a shipyard; Or go along with the capital ship docking.
