Mac user are non standardized junkies with a big deal of Hippie culture. Vista is a resource-hog beyond anything released so far and is looks-only, functionality blaha.. XP would be the only decent option for a modern:ish OS with as much compatibility and standardisation as possible. DX10 is overrated. Soo far. /there, glove thrown, who's to pick it up?

More than half of the 'features' of Vista have been implemented by Mac OSX years before Vista production even started. "Gadgets"? Come on, OSX had Widgets basically millenia before that. OSX also runs far, far more efficiently than Vista. The only problem of course, is that it's mac. Though once intel Macs are perfected, and cheapened, I think the ever-growing Mac empire will only take more Microsoft stock. |

May I state that my favourite operating system is Dos. ^^ I hate the use of graphical user interfaces at places where they are unnecessary... Of course, 8-bit processing is a little bit antiquated... or should I say "antedeluvian"? Efficiency in terms of "system ressource to effect ratio" was unmatched, though. @TheSizzler: Oh, please, break this picture up into several small ones. It demolishes the forum style. TheSizzler. Obey Zsar, or I'll hack it up for you myself. Gadgets? There is plenty of third party software for that, and what about when MacOS did a "microsoft" implementing their own gadget system thus effectively ruining a perfectly good shareware solution later becoming Yahoo Widgets. *sigh* Ok, look. Several points: 1. Vista IS a resource hog, I can't deny it. However, thats a rather moot point, because at this point in time if one doesn't own a PC with at least 2 gigs of RAM and a dual-core CPU, one has no business gaming on a PC. Upgrade! Go to Newegg, look around, shit is fuck cheap these days. 2. Many of the advertised features of Vista were in OSX years ago, it's true. Those don't matter. Vista is functionally about 98% the same as XP, most of the important changes are under the hood. To say that Vista is functionally blah is pure ignorance. Just like with XP when it was first released it will take awhile before developers start using utilizing the big changes for their programs. Take DX10 for example. Remember when DX9 games came out? They weren't all that different from DX8 games. But after a couple years, they looked far, far better and were the standard. Btw, I can't stand OSX. If any OS treats it's users like fools, it's that monstrosity. More than that, nothing runs on it. Also, 'Vista runs faster on Mac hardware lolbbqftw!" Moot point, since Mac hardware at this point is nothing more than slightly modified PC hardware, from makers like Corsair, Intel, and Nvidia. So the point fails. Badly. I use Vista 64-bit, and have had no problems with it. The only thing remotely crappy about it is the stupid UAC thing, which can be turned off super easily. Problem solved, now it functions, superficially at least, like a prettied up XP. Haruhi is my God(dess).

Am I right if I say that nether "gadgets" nor "widgets" are anything important? Never heard of such things... oh wait! "widget" is an object class in Jass. ^^ As it is an extension of "handle" I never used it however... |

Naa, they are not important. Provides info about weather, stock and birthdays or whatnot. UAC is certainly a bad thing, best rid of. But I keep XP since I know it and since MS with the release of SP3 will give it a 10-20% performance boost which is great. One thing I dislike with Vista are the long text explanations for everything in ControlPanel and other places. Its like they think you have all the time in the world to read all those through. king-o'da'bigfile

Long text explanations? What? Looks pretty much the same as XP dude. Also yeah, widgets/gadgets are kinda a stupid thing to base which OS is better off of. But I do use the BBC radio gadget a lot. You're telling me you actually left Vista at it's stock settings? *facepalm* It's just like with XP, the second I got that years ago, I switched it back to the older style start menu and everything.

That menu in the background shows why I did reverse the update of my media player to version 11 after one minute of glancing at it (besides that these updates screw up the entire order of my music files...). Who are they to believe that such a size of entries does benefit anybody who is not entirely blind (the little difference is that in these explorer windows this can be changed quite easily while I needed more than the single minute I spent for it to find the player's option to do that)!? Noodle. Its just harder to do that in a new OS. We all customize XP to a certain extent, and the longer we have it, the faster we do it. Vista is pretty abnoxious with that, Zsar. Its made for 24" Widescreen king-o'da'bigfile

24" wide screen? Huh? I'm running on a crappy ancient 17" CRT, and it's fine. And what menu are you talking about? Seriously, it's very, very slightly different from XP, I honestly don't get what the fuck pisses you off so much. And if you don't like something PROTIP: all the view options from XP are still there, select what you want, apply to all folders, problem solved. Now, give me some real reasons to hate Vista and I'll tackle those. I've been using it for almost 9 months now, first the 32-bit version to allow the drivers to mature a little, and now the full 64-bit one, which is so much faster by the way. And I have had no problems with it. Which is saying a lot. You should see what I do to my machines... Oh, and don't give me any "well maybe for what you do it's fine, but I do *blank* and it's horrible" lines, because, as one can tell from my desktop, I run pretty much everything.  PS. Yes, that wallpaper is what you think it is, and yes, my Soundtrack folder is that big. Around 15 gigs now I think. Haruhi is my God(dess).

Bluescreen isn't a Windows problem, it's supposed to happen. It's a hardware error message, it means something is very wrong with the system. If it didn't happen, you would continue on using your computer totally oblivious to the problem, and things would likely get very ugly for you sometime down the road. On that subject, I have never had a blue screen of death, with any version of windows, Vista or otherwise. I view the BSoD as a totally overblown phenomenon, I doubt it actually happens anywhere near as much as people seem to think it does. Haruhi is my God(dess).
