Mission 6 Fails to load.
DiabLoTFL
Hello, my first post here, but I'm advanced HW (first part and not bad at second) player.

I've finnished the campaign in the original version, and now I wanted to try it out with the PDS mod 7.0 .

So, as the topic says, mission 6 fails to load with the mod. After the Oracle mission (5) it loads up first few seconds of the introduction movie (hyperspace engine). Then it automaticly turns off and goes to the game credits. After I press ESC -> hw2.exe shuts down.

Could You help me solving this problem not in the drastical way of reinstalling whole game (again)?

I've uploaded the fraps movie (400kb ) so You can see how that thing looks like.

Don't worry, that is normal. In v7 only the first 5 missions were meant to be played.

You can play the entire campaign in v6.

DiabLoTFL
Damn - reinstalling HW2 again then and starting from the beggining?

Why would you do that? To play v6 you just need to remove the v7 files from the homeworld data folder and put the v6 files into it. Don't forget to play with a new profile as well.

I've deleted v7 files and then installed v6.1 ones. Now campaign's mission one won't even start up.

Hey there fellow TFL member.

I bet you deleted the "Animatics" folder in the "data" folder. If the Sierra and Relic logos don't play when you start Hw2, or/and Mission 1 starts with you seeing the back of the Tanis shipyard, then you deleted the "Animatics" folder for sure. You'll have to reinstall Homeworld2.

Otherwise, usually the log file will tell us what we need to know. First go crash your game. Then go into your homeworld2 data folder, then the "bin" folder, and then find a file called "hw2". Open it up and paste the text in a post.

DiabLoTFL
Yeah, you're right. I must have deleted the animatics folder Smile

Thanks a lot, going to reinstal HW2 right now.

Hmmm, still same thing. I did what You told me to and it fails to load next mission and goes to the credits...

Don't let me spam here, I hate spamming but noone tries to help me.

This time after reinstalling 6.1 and playing it form the beggining, when mission 6 was about to start, HW crashed. Now it won't let me to go into "Single Player" tab because it crashes automaticly... any ideas?

K sorry for the late reply, but forums seemed not working anyway.

Yeah, that was accesnsion.campaign file corruption. There was one wierd line that was crashing the game. ATM I am trying to get through Baclora's gate (Damn, now you made that mission not easy). I needed to edit some unit caps for Capital class ships hehe. 4 BCs should do it (i guess).

So 6.1 is the latest PDS version that works with the Homeworld campaign? What improvements in PDS have been made since then? Or rather, what features will I be missing out on by downloading 6.1 instead of the latest version?

DiabLoTFL
Well, further versions definately brings new ships. And as I remember, 7.3 brought me more lag (ion cannons in fighters).

Ok but there are no bugs and it's possible to finish the entire HW2 campaign? TIA

From a military standpoint the post M06 SP campaign missions weren't of much gameplay value. Thus the V7 campaign was optimised and shortened for a fast-paced limited-scope operation - getting the Navy from its flat-footed state in the opening weeks of the Invasion to a force capable of matching and beating Vaygr naval power .

That about sums up why the campaign was cut in half. I hope to properly revamp all 15 SP missions in V11 with all maps scaled up by a factor of 2 to 3.
