Well, I finally found enough time away from WoW to get at it with the 7.3 campaign instead of fighting half-complete skirmishes and ship duels. It took me a while to figure out that I can't use the old Homeworld profile to continue on with the Campaign. Well, that's fine. I was going to start from scratch anyway. The real issue I have right now is that the campaign literally stops after the asteriod digsite hijacking mission. Whenever I complete that mission it goes right over to the ending credits. Is this working as intended? Edited by dohyung on 02-09-2006 20:21 |

Yep, the V7.2 one is truncated from the original, each mission is tailored specifically for PDS ships. |

This brings up a related question. Historically, which version of PDS did the events of the HW2 campaign take place in? I wanna say v4 or v5. (taking into account technological advancement and RP events.) We should compile a Canon/non Canon PDS timeline to make this easier. Back on topic. I have several minor changes to suggest. 1st off, Progenitor ships should have some type of secondary armarment (guided missiles/autocannons/light PCs/etc)to allow more tactical depth in those levels where they're present. Also, resourcing was an issue in the earlier parts of the campaign. M02 and M03 specificly. Suggestion: Put more scratch in the Kunde containers in M01. And mabye allow the transport ships in M02 to give a small amount of $ so you can build up for the later levels. Enemy resistance is also key. In M03, the enemy at the forward resource operation (consisting of 3 CFs and a CV among numerous strikecraft.) always goes for my mothership after destroying my resource operation. I have to send most of my forces to protect the Shipyard leaving only some FtIs and CTs to guard my critical resourcers. And even if I had my main force stationed there I would have incured heavy losses to the escort picket's Shamshirs and Irrish Shels (as most of my force was strikecraft.) Suggestion: No CFs escorting the CV or Better yet, give me something big to even the odds with and augment my forces in later missions. And maybe give the shipyard some guns. M07, Same issue. The big groups of frigates and Strikecraft eat up my forces before (and after) I can build any Arbiters and my FPS pays the price. I simply can't rebuild fast enough to counter the incoming waves of Vaygr. And the Navaskya city and it's defences are the straw that breaks the Watsas' back. Suggestion: Less Vaygr. Lower the number of enamies coming at you but make them come from all sides to balance it out. And make the Navaskya City's escorts more active. M08, The Keeper is simply too weak to be a threat. It just comes and goes and does'nt do any damage. Suggestion: Make the Keeper faster, smarter and better. Add guided weapons, CIWS, ECM, etc to the Keepers and drones. On a side note, the HGN should'nt be allowed to build Hawk drones until after this battle (for the sake of realism). M09, I havent played through here yet but I can assume that it's a sh*tstorm of big ships and big cash withdrawls rebuilding. Suggestion: Give the Shipyard Nabaal some Big escorts to help you here and down the road. M10, Same issue as M08, Keepers and drones need to be better, maybe having them move like a LiirHra and have even bigger guns than the Keeper in M08. To counterbalance this, give Bentus some plasma lances or direct fire DEWs (or if we had Super Acolytes?) to protect itself. M12, From what I can remember from stock HW2, this level has like 5+ BCs guarding Thaddis Sabbah and huge groups of frigates. Meaning FPS=DOA. Although this is an oppurtunity for a drawn out and spread out battle. Just the kind I like. Suggestion: Put emphasis in the Deadnaught's imployment in this battle (Give it lots of guns and lots of firepower.) as well as giving the player at least 3 BC or BV class vessels as a combat spearhead. Maybe adding individual groups of prowling strikecraft instead of huge groups of VMF frigates (So the player has to think how to allocate resources to protect his ass while still concentrating primarily on the main battle. M13, This mission should be a real breather from the wild intensity of Thaddis Sabbah and a chance to rebuild, but not to be taken lightly. Suggestion: Move the player's starting position away from the Vaygr shipyard and near some resources. Also, there should be less frigates attacking Balcora giving the player time to think and react. General suggestions, The unit cap, specificly for LiirHras, BC/BVs and Frigates should be increased to give the player a chance, especially in the later battles, against the superior numbers of the Vaygr and to allow what HW2 was meant for, epic space battles on a larger scale than regular PDS. Though I can see the reasons why such battles don't occur often in PDS gameplay, We can let it slide this one time can't we? |

I can't wait to play the entire campaign in PDS universe. And Ironwatsas, those are some excellent suggestions but I don't particularly agree on the resource part. I think it offered more challenge when resources were scarce forcing me to take better care of my ships. |

I mean in the very Beginning (M01, M02) to give you money to build the starting fleet. Usually I have barely enough money to build enough strikecraft in M02 to save four of the transports and that costs me most of my money. Throw in the amount required for the Resourcers and platforms in M03, and I'm screwed on M04 and M05. If no extra resources, then the MCS' in M02 should have better escort and you should get better re-inforcements escorting the Elusive Concept. And It has to be the Elusive Concept that re-inforces your fleet in M02. If nothing else, apply that to the campaign. |

Quote In fact, I've been toying with the idea of replacing the RU asteroids with starship hulks and Kunde containers. More realistic to be reconstituting viable pieces of hardware and logistics support. It's all about replacing the asteroid hod with a station hod and somewhat change the collectors' dig animation - or am I missing something? Incidentally, if someone can tell me how to change the docking path to tanis (the main megalith) - or even better do it himself - I'd be extremely grateful. That would make the mission 01 collectors' ballet around the mothership look better. More generally I'd disagree with Iron about the lack of resource, at least in M01 and M02. The HGN fleet is at bay during those missions and it has to survive with what they have. My plan is to give the player a small fleet at M01 start and let him deal with opponents who are better than target drones in M01 and M02 with very little to no replacement (but of course with the decisive support of Soban in M02) Then if he survives, grand action can start at M03. |

Can you be a little more specific? What do you mean by changing the docking path to Tanis? (sorry if you are being specific, I just can't understand you) ![]() |

I was not specific ![]() It's the dockpath for collectors. Currently they 'dock' on the right panel of the Tanis megalith; it would be more accurate to say they latch on a point then unlatch, rather than docking. What I'm looking for is to make them actually dock in the bay that is on the top right of the megalith from under and undock them from the same bay, upwards. So I would suppose this implies in fact two dockpaths (enter/exit). |

Well then f**k the resources. Either way this is going to be beyond sweet when it's done. Quote My plan is to give the player a small fleet at M01 start and let him deal with opponents who are better than target drones in M01 and M02 with very little to no replacement Indeed. But to comprimise the lack of reinforcement (at least for strikecraft), the Vaygr carrier in M02 should be toned down to a Kaghan mk1 instead of a Sorceress. If that's done, than the resources should'nt be a problem until M03 But I still would like to know which version of PDS did the HW2 campaign historically occur in taking into account technological levels and historical events and my own rantings about stuff that I never remember doing. |

Which version? You can assume we can use the current one (V7.3) as the basis for the Invasion era campaign. No sense doubling back to V6 or earlier. |

I propose trying a different approach to fleet battles - instead of the MS having a huge defensive fleet, have the MS as the main combatant bringing to bear superior firepower to support "standard" warships against overwhelming odds. Like orcs vs elves ![]() |

Re stations and resourcing, it has already been done: http://forums.relicnews.com/showthrea...hp?t=98457 I agree the mothership, when fully armed, should be more than a big slow target. |

Quote (sorry for my bad english) When will you gays finish the rest of the champaign missions? First, don't underestimate your English capabilities. There is an art of the typo and you seem to be on top of it ![]() The current campaign is not supposed to go further. I guess I'll have to add an end page or something to make it clear. The plans for the campaign are not an addition to the current campaign, but a redesign from mission 1. |

It will get done when we can. That is a long project with a lot of work. EDIT: this being said, if anybody knows how to script or is properly motivated to learn it, I'd be happy to share the burden with him

Isn't it more likely that the MS will be more defensively armed? Fieldage and that? Its doesn't have the best shape, for starters, for offensive weapons. Doesn't really seem the Hiigaran style. Its more of a mobile homeworld. Heavily defended. Bit off today so ignore it i'm talking piss. |

I attach the new mission 1 files (with a slightly modified chimera hod) that fix (a) the bug preventing it from ending and (b ) the NIS sequences that did not fit with the frigate attack.
Sun Tzu attached the following file:

Not many. I changed the docking paths for fighters and utilities; the former did not look good enough for a pseudo-NIS. I also added a few capture point, but this will be useful only for the new ascension campaign. |

Then if he survives, grand action can start at M03.
