I was a bit shocked to find no modification to the game to allow for simple deathmatches vs. cpu players. Was this intended, or did I make a mistake somewhere and not see it? Its good work btw, to all who had a hand in production. I personally just find skirmishes a tad bland. I like to make my own start and go about things hehe. Plus there isnt much in the line of replay value, I felt. Just a question and some opinions. -BQ2 |

Normal skirmishes is a tad impossible in PDS 7.6. 7.6 would actually be more accuratly called PDS: AS 0.3. There is no real resource gathering or building in PDS: AS. That's all done in construction installations in places far from the front line. I am hoping, at some point, to make a version of PDS: AS that allows the player tactical instead of strategic control over your forces. As PDS: AS stands, initial positions and numbers are crucial in the outcome of an engagement, and has mostly eliminated all micromanagement. You can easily make your own skirmishes by opening up data/leveldata/multiplayer/duel and study the files in there. Those files control the map used, the location and placement of units, as well as who controls what. |

While I very much enjoy the tactical skirmish that are provided, however I too like to have campaign level fights with the computer on the very large maps that are available for download. I have had several games that are over 10 hours of game play on them. To that end I would like to eventually see a return of this capability. Until then I will retain my 6.2 version for these fights. |

I would have loved to create a gigantic single-map campaign of the entire solar system for V7.6, but technical limitations stood in the way. For some reason ships all become unselectable on maps larger than 400km. Until that issue is resolved we are unfortunately restricted to tactical battles in AS - and yes I do keep V7.2 for space ballets of grander proportions. The unit balancing is otherwise identical between 7.2 and 7.6. |

Well, with all the new stuff coming out to populate the 21st Century battlespace, even wardogs have to learn as they go along these days ![]() |

I'm really confused with this new layout. The last version of PDS I played was 6.0, back when things moved much slower and I could see the whole battle. Now it seems like everything zooms around entirely too fast, I can't see even a 10th of the battle, and no ships obey my commands in the slightest. Obviously I'm doing something wrong. Can someone please explain to me how it is you get this new version to work? I have read through the PDSAS PDF file on the downloads section, but I'm having a tough time implementing it. First off, the ships don't seem to move at all where I want them too, which greatly complicates things. Secondly, the enemy ships seem to have a tremendous ROF and range advantage over my ships for some unknown reason. Also, I can't get the Chakras to shoot down any incoming munitions or whatnot. They just sit there. I tried using the mine-layer command but that didn't work. Can someone please help me out? It seems as if EVERYTHIGN has changed since 6.0 and I can't seem to figure any of it out ![]() |

okay, the problem here is a naming problem. version 7.6 really shouldn't be called PDS as much as it should be called NGCS 3 or something. I don't consider anything after 7.2 part of the original PDS. In that vein, if you want the latest version of the *real* PDS, then get 7.2 yes everything after that was changed drastically to this new tactical combat deal, and yes you rarely see the whole battle and its close to impossible to micromanage, but that's not the point of anything after 7.2 anyway. so in short: get 7.2 and you will have much more fun. and a note to devs, something needs to be done about the naming to reduce confusion. rather than adding onto the acronym perhaps you should add a new word completley like PDS-Tactical and PDS-RTS "adundes secundus" doesn't really do much to describe the differing gameplay, especially for us non-latin speakers. |

Let's see: NGCS and such was just a testbed for the PDS 7.6->8.0 generation. These have been considered part of PDS because of the similar ships, technologies, and factions in play. NGCS is merely the "game engine" that everything runs on. In short, we don't really give a damn whether or not you like the naming of these things or not. Now quit whining and shut up. Or else I'll unleash Tel's matron on you. If you're not aware, being put in Hell is a better punishment ![]() As for maneuverability? I thought that the manual did a nice job. Learn it yourself, I managed to learn how to run PDS 7.6 in less than 30 minutes of gameplay. It's not that hard. Also, the Chakras do a hell of a good job shooting down munitions. Just let them be and hit F4, that's all. Usage of the F4 key is crucial, as it has been through the past 5 (6.0, 6.1, 7.0, 7.1, 7.2) or more incarnations of PDS. There was a lot of time given for discussion of the post 7.2 PDS naming convention. So pay attention to what is going on if you want to have a say. *proceeds to lock the 7.2 fans into their own island* Now you can play all you want, children - have at it! |
