For some future version, I think that there should be some scenarios like the one from that old Taskforce Command mod made by TelQuessir. It sounds really good, as I happen to be terrible at resourcing, and it's too bad that the link from Relic Forums doesn't actually work. Do you guys think you might put some scenarios like these in a future version? EDIT: In case anyone's interested, here's the link to the thread: http://forums.relicnews.com/showthrea...hp?t=22070 Edited by Xenon on 20-09-2005 13:46 |

A thought that occured to me is perhaps to include the role of Q-ship into the mission parameters of the ACV and AMC. I imagine that the Vagyr, with their Strike Craft heay navy, would do quite a bit of commerce and supply-line raiding. As such a prudent update for the AMC and ACV would be to equip them with an updated ECM suite. The purpose of this (I'm not sure if its possible to workably do this in-game) would be to mask their true nature and have them register to hostiles as standard merchant vessels like those that appear in mission 2. In standard gameplay this won't make much of a difference. On the other hand in scenarios potentially built around behind the lines shipping raids by the Vagyr it could provide a nasty bit of uncertainty, as well as force a Vagyr player or CPU to pay close attention to their visual sensor data when engaging in such raids. If the fireball can't be seen from orbit you obviously aren't trying hard enough.
There is no 'overkill' only 'open fire' and 'I need to reload'. -Schlock Mercenary |

Ah, and another thing I just thought of. Why is the badge on the Hiigaran Auxilliary Carrier backwards? |

Xenon - Byproduct of the retexture. If it bugs you, just use a symmetrical badge. I would personally like targettable subsystem weapons, if only on the larger ship's primary mounts. 0wn3d

Unkn0wn - It doesn't bug me, I'm just trying to think of ideas that could be done and things that could be changed. How about a frigate that has a strikecraft bay? It could be used as a cheap method of transporting fighters through dangerous sectors, as well as carrying them through hyperspace. |

Xenon; i'd assume that they'd either be shipped out to their new commands on bulk transports during resupply runs, or they'd already be assigned to vessels with a strikecraft capability. While the idea of a frigate sized carrier is an interesting one, I think it's more of a curiosity than a workable battlespace concept. The hull of a frigate is just too small and too fragile to serve as a homebase for a selection of strikecraft wings. |

I believe that frigate-sized carriers would be escort carriers. |

Frigate-sized carriers would essentially be able to carry onle one strike craft wing. Therefore it it deemed unacceptable for use. A much better alternative for your money would be the upcoming Marquess-class CVA - assault carrier. More powerful than a frigate, and much more fun to use as well. |

The thing about the Marquess is that it was originally designed to fill the role of the WW2 CVE. So it is a cheap, mass-produced hull when we do get to deploying them in the v7 public release. I will outsource a contract for the Marquess CVE, as the existing development is as a military attack carrier optimised for deployment in fast attack groups. |

Since no-one has posted in nearly a week, I guess that the frigate-sized carriers discussion is over. Oh well, back to ideas... I have 2 new ideas: 1) Make the probes cloaked to sensors. This would make them much more sneaky, and a lot less likely to be found and destroyed. 2) How about a platform that can make strikecraft? It could be a simple asteroid but with a hanger on one side. It could also be cloaked to sensors, meaning that if you hid one or two of these in a large asteroid belt, you could disrupt the enemies' resourcing, and if you did small hit-and-runs from the platform, it might take a while for the enemies to discover what is hitting them. And, if it didn't have any weapons itself, it would be more hidden as your foes might just fly on by. EDIT: Spelling... Edited by Xenon on 20-09-2005 18:35 |

Xenon, In response to your points: 1. An active sensor would be immediately detected and its position determined by any decent warship. A passive probe would be a viable alternative as a stealth sensor, but I fear it would provide insufficient information due to the nature of passive sensors. 2. Are you refering to the old gun/ion/missile platforms? If so they were discontinued as they fell short on a number of required battlespace atributes. They were poorly armed, poorly armoured, and projected only limited combat power. Worst of all, they were too expensive in light of their shortcomings. It is possible, however, that the armed asteroid base could be included in a future scenario - I'm sure you can come up with such a scenario that involves, oh I don't know, a deep strike on an enemy logistics depot? |

It would be nice if the bit of story that accompanies each of the campaign levels could be displayed in the loading screens. Not so important but it would be a nice touch, i think. |

A scenario, eh? How about this: A Training mission, where you have an asteroid base. You get taught how to build resourcers and how to harvest. Then, a Vagyr carrier hyperspaces in, and sends out lots of harvesters. You get told to build LSFs and are taught how to destroy the harvesters. Once that's done, the carrier launches a few fighter squads, and while your LSFs engage them, you're told to build Thunderbolt bombers and attack the carrier. This is where you get told how to engage subsystems, etc. Once the carrier and fighters are destroyed, the mission is complete. |

Here goes: Anyone remember Robotech? The Macross Saga, etc? Remember how there were flying Veritechs as well as ground-based ones, and that the ground-based units could walk on the hulls of lineships? How about a mobile cannon that could attach itself to a repair point of a larger ship? Take half of a platform, dock it on a repair point of a capital ship and - voila! - you have added a bit of firepower to that larger ship! Of course, they can be targetted and killed like any other stationary subsystem... but this could add teeth to underpowered/older ships to help them stay in the game, as it were... This is also like the Leech of Cataclysm, except not stealthy and with an obviously different purpose. I'm not a code-writer, so I'm just throwing the concept out there... Call them Barnacles, Remoras, Morays, whatever. |

One thing that i want to see on the pds is that you have alot more freedom when it comes to cap ships. I want the ships to cost less but the ships shoulde have no Guns. So that you can choose yourself what you want and also that you can change them out(the weapons i mean). and i also think that some of the ships are overpowered. But its a great mode and i love it. . oh and one more thing PLZ make the next versons as an exe file its sooo much better or at least give a more detailed install guide

Ok, other than my Remora-class mobile cannon, how about a ram? Imagine affixing a hull-breaching-capable ram onto the front of a ToF - stiffen its body and increase its acceleration - and remove some weapons to compensate, of course - but be able to achieve "ramming speed" when outgunned.... neat. |

If you want ram damage, just do it yourself - I think there's a way to edit the .ship files to include RAMMING SPEED damage.

Ok Xenon, how about the following instead? A heavily stealthed Sobanii carrier hyperspaces in near a Vaygr resupply facility between patrols. It has with it a small command of frigates, as well as a hold of strike craft. It's mission is to penetrate the fixed defenses and light screening forces around the dpeot, then either retreat under its own power or escape after crippling the comm link that controls the local hyperspace inhibitors. The trick will be completing the mission before a local vaygr patrol can be rerouted to exterminate the Sobanii. Of course, if the Sobanii can find the time to capture enough materiel from the depot, they may be able to justify the deployment of a Supermonitor... |
