Is the first mission supposed to take this long?
the nothing
Hello,

I think something might be wrong with the mod... I installed version 6.1 to HW2 but had some other mods in first, thinking that if I just moved the files for those mods I would have no problem.

I then went into HW2 and fired up the SP campaign. I go into the first mission and everything seems fine up to the combat trials. It seemed to me that my interceptors weren't doing much damage. I shrugged it off, but then came the Vaygr. It took damn near forever for my interceptors to kill these certain fighters-Saracen II bombers, if I'm not mistaken. I looked at them, and I saw that it had about 8500+ armor compared to my interceptor's 1150-1175. I only had two squads of interceptors and it took about 4 minutes to kill them all, as compared to the 30 seconds it would take in normal HW2-my interceptors were barely scratching them. I shrugged that off too until the larger attack force came in. I'm not sure how long it took for that battle to end, however.

Thinking something was wrong, I reinstalled HW2 and put in PDS again. Did the same thing, but lo and behold, the same thing happened again. Is this normal?

Edit: I decided to skim through the Hiigaran Navy Tactical Reference in search of an answer. Would it be that the Saracen II is a 4G class strike craft and thus my interceptors' armament is simply inneffective?
I also think I misjudged the time it took to kill them.

Hi,
I'm newbish at PDS but one thing I quickly learned is that hiigarian interceptors are very inefficient. The 1st mission is enough evidence of that. I recycle them as soon as I can build more serious stuff (ie anything else Smile) in the SP campaign.

lol, now in PDS there isnt a system by which evreything is balanced, and a certain food chain for the ships, cruser>destroyer>frigate .. etc, this is not done in PDS, each ship depends on how the culture has evolved the design and how they percieve space warfare and doctrines on weapons proliferation,

also the way the ships are meant to be used are now very different compared to standard HW2, interceptors are good dogfighters and good at hassling capital ships, if you want to take out vagry bomber waves , Bloodhound frigates are best combined with large Blade wings kept in formation > send them in pull them out send them in etc

but dont fret the autocannon on the blade will be replaced with a rapid fire plasma weapon and fitted with HVR Racks,(im not sure , devs will have to correct me =] )

also having a fleet of certain ships is bad, having a mixed fleet for different tasks is best due to the number of situations you will encounter along the sp missions, and smaller strikecrft are an integral part of a battle ready fleet

so build your strikecraft compliment up and blades are good all-rounders, dont ignore them use what is available!

//EDIT bad spelling =]

I've found the Blades to be woefully inadequate against anything heavier than a Saracen or Pioneer. I move quickly to build an advanced research module and recycle the Blades for LSF's. Although if the autocannon is being replaced by a rapid fire DEW, I might be persuaded to raise my opinion of the Blade.

The Blades keep on needing updating to fit with the new technological advances, before HVRs interceptors were even worse.

dz: They will absolutely obliterate some targets with their HVRs. And with plasma cannons, which go right through defense fields, things will be a bit more interesting.

Granted, I don't know if the PRC projectiles have been sped up at all.

ive noticed the first mission takes a while but the second mission is more annoying they have the daughters of the wind and the carrier walks right past one of the transports destroying it on its own with the ion cannon it has

So it wasn't a mistake at all, these fighters were designed like that. Well, I decided to play into mission 4 even before I got any response from you guys, and I am glad to learn my time was not wasted. And yes, mission 2 was quite something, but after a bit of experimenting I managed to save all 6 transports, as well as have minimal casualties. However, I think I got lucky because the Sorceress ignored Bishop 3 until right before it was gonna dock with the mothership.

Its all very, very different in V7. In the new M03 you'll see as well that the Blades are quite necessary as craft able to counter (as in tie up) enemy light fighters which will otherwise hopelessly swarm your real anti-fighter power to oblivion.

Blades and Avengers (grav propulsion and all) are the top of the food chain when it comes to fighter vs fighter combat.

ok looking forward to 7.0 then will it be an installer or zipfile or big?

'Tie up'?

How will that be possible?

Will the A.I. prioritise attacking them, or something? Otherwise I see no way that can work...surely they'll just fly past, ignoring them, or something like?

Of course, I'm likely missing something.

ahah you see if you where playing you wouldnt let a large wing of fighters (whatever race) attack your strikecraft unopposed (spelling?) so the enemy AI says hmm i need to stop these and therefore tie them up =]

All of the ships in PDS are a lot more survivable than the stock game. Although blades do take time to whittle fighter formations down some times, they do do it. Also remember that when they are going after bombers more often than not there will be a friendly capital vessel in the area helping out with its PDS grid. I tend to use blades to immobilise enemy fighters until I can get something heavier (flight of bloodhounds/Khopeshes) in to mop up.
