Targeting Individual Weapons?

I saw this mentioned on the old PDS board, but how exactly is it done? I've tried selecting the weapon and then selecting a target but all I get is a couple red chevrons instead of the targeting icon. Can this actually be done or is it something that never existed/was removed in 6.1? If the fireball can't be seen from orbit you obviously aren't trying hard enough.

The visual range of weapon systems have been reduced substantially to remove system clutters when selecting a ship. Before, if you tried to select a ship, you would get a handful of subsystems. Now, due to the ingenuity of the development team, you can actually select a ship. On the downside, this means many enemy subsystems can not be targetted as well. However, main weapon systems such as the dual ion cannon turret on a battlecruiser should be able to be targetted very easily. Rather then spend time destroying hard to reach subsystems, focus on major subsystems and also the primary directors, which should decrease their firing accuracy. Hope that helps. |

I think he meant selecting a subsytem on one of your own ships and right clicking on an enemy target, if you select a Subsystem then hold your mouse over an enemy ship then it shows the capture cursor. I myself have tried it. |

No what I meant was setting a particular weapon (like say that dual ion turret) and targeting it on a specific enemy without locking the BC's entire loadout on it. Nothing's more irritating than watching your BC fire off its heavy hitters at a destroyer or frigate when there's a Titan flying about nearby beaming the crap out of you. EDIT: Curses, you were faster than I was

I've never had it working myself but you could try holding ctrl when you click the enemy ship or hold ctrl and bandbox it. EDIT - OMG first post on these boards

It isn't possible to select a subsystem to attack a particular target as subsystems do not have an "attack" ability. Hopefully this will inspire the development team to implement this idea manually, if it is possible. This was something that even standard homeworld has not acheived. |

Strange, I thought that individual weapon systems could indeed do that. Try it with the Prince's ion turrets. |

Individual weapon system targeting - I'll try to enable that.... if it even is possible in the HW2 engine! |

Selecting targets for individual systems would be a cool addition if it is possible, it adds more micro-management, which will let the advanced players have an extra edge, you could simulate control to a higher degree, picking out targets yourself. |

Swear I had a POH turret with the red capture icon, but if I rclicked on an enemy it would swivel towards it. Hmmmmm. |

I would only enable it for primary weapons though (the BC's ions for example) as doing it for every single weapon would just encourage micromanagement.

Some people like micro-management, you should leave it up to them whether they want to micro-manage, but we don't even know if it is possible yet. |

Certain ships in PDS are -designed- to be micromanaged and I have stated this fact repeatedly over the past months... So this thing about remotely directing weapon systems from a command ship would be a worthwhile addition. Simulates weapon subordination via datalink. |

It might be good to note that you can bandbox select subsystems, so I believe that micromanaging them could be an interesting asset. |

And it would be nice to be able to coordinate fire somewhat with them. Something like directing PDS weapons to engage the interceptors ripping your bombers to shreds, or tasking some to engage a strike wing hitting another ship while the rest handle self-defense. Mostly it's the whole main-battery thing though. Sometimes the ship AI just doesn't seem to have its targeting priorities straight. If the fireball can't be seen from orbit you obviously aren't trying hard enough.
