There is a certain mod on the Moddb.com HW2 listing that consists entirely of models and code ripped from Complex and PDS. What should be a suitable... punishment for their blatant idiocity, I wonder? |

I quote from my post at the mod author Forum and at RB: Quote I do not deny that TFS may be a good mod. Problem is it was used with (some) code/models that others have created and thus permission must be asked and received, plus, of course, credited. There is no point crediting someone that is not aware of the credit or have given permission to the usage in the first place. At Relic Developers Network we all abide to this: http://forums.relicnews.com/announcement.php?f=72&announcementid=29 No exclusions. Sure, we can't "prohibit" the existance of a Mod that violates that, but we sure as hell are on the watchout for those who does, and if we can help and explain we do that too. Sadly, it seems to late for this mod. I suggest a new approach by the mods author, taking it down from public download and stating a willingness to comply with the rules we all abide to. If such a dialogue could be established, we will of course be happy to help out in any way we can. Now, the last part might imply the cooperation of our always so benevolent and cheering Leader, but lets not jump to any conclusions yet shall we? king-o'da'bigfile

Haha... I love how the TFS / EVO fans are trying to justifiy stealing from another mod because it "...is a very well put together Mod with unique idea's and gameplay..." Thus saying, you can take things without permission and even less crediting because you have a new idea on how to use it all.... Think of all the nice legal action that could be taken if you put a patent on a mod.

Looking at he screenshots it looks like one of the borrowed ships is the HAC designed by me and brought to life superbly by El Mambo which means i am more than a little pissed off. But before i explode completely i have 2 things to ask; 1) has anybody actually played the mod? it might be worthwhile finding out exactly what has been lifted from PDS (and other mods) sooner rather than later. If its just a few bits and bobs a diplomatic solution may be suitable. if its a lot then i think itharus got the right idea. 2) did anybody give them permission then forget to tell anyone here? This comment may sound a bit patronizing but its best to be certain of the facts before getting into an argument Lets hope this gets sorted with a minimum of fuss and agro. Rampent Kitty-basher

Suntzu's idea is of course the most practical at the moment. Regarding "I love how the TFS / EVO fans are trying to justifiy stealing from another mod because it "...is a very well put together Mod with unique idea's and gameplay..." That, as the issue is being handled in a controlled manner in the RB we should show similar restraint. That means my thread opening here is unbecoming of a mod leader

How about a proper update on the situation and a re-visiting of available options to be takin into consideration. -Fear the Might of the Imperial Cortharian Fleet

As there will be additional interest in PDS after this, both negative and positive, all measures should be taken to release updates to existing works ASAP. These measures are presently, being executed as we speak. Freelancers should follow suit on their own initiative ![]() |

Tel' 7.1? or NGCS introduction into PDS as 8.0? Also assuming we can wait it might be good to use the venue for the intorduction of the Deliverance II Just thoughts for consideration. |

Hmph, NGCS Earth SP campaign would be an easy success. Can even create a single-ship storyline (ever watched that huge space dogfight in Serenity?). But smaller stuff first. As far as I'm concerned only NGCS needs coding attention. PDS can use some unit-centric scenario gameplay as I implied with the formations roleplay stuff that surfaced recently. |

Seems TFS author is rebooting and might eventually income with a battery of permissions requests. Listen, I know it may be a bit hard given his recent actions, but if those could be attributed to "some" ignorance and carelessness, could You give him the benefit of the doubt and actually discuss the permissions and not just shoot him out of nearest ion cannon?

Update: Mod has been taken down from ModDB. We won...sorta. The final gain would be to get Phantom (or Battlecry, whatshisname) to ask for permissions, remake some stuff and relaunch the mod for the benefit of all. :thumb: king-o'da'bigfile
