This is a thread for identifying certain AI issues and how to work around them without nagging about it on the forums. These are just the issues I've found while "single-ship roleplaying" with various ships both Hiigara and Vaygr. You are more than welcome to contribute to the troubleshooting list. Fighters/corvettes line up next to the capital ship, but does not dock. ? Possible cause: - The said capital ship is under "stay docked" mode - Multiple strike crafts were queued for docking - Capital ship is moving - Strike crafts were ordered to dock while "under" the capital ship - This is a very sporatic and quite uncommon issue, but it happens more frequently for Hiigaran strike craft. ? Workaround: - Move strike crafts and order dock one by one - Stop the capital ship - Move strike crafts "above" the capital ship - This is not a game-breaking issues and less than a second of micro fixes it. Some ships in a group (non strike group) are left behind on move order and refuse to move ? Possible cause: - The said ships attempted to fall in formation but failed - The said ships made an interrupted hyperspace jump prior to move order - The group includes more than 4 or 5 capital-class ships - Also a very uncommon issue but tends to happen more for ships larger than frigate and especially ships that turn their broadside to attack like Arbiters. ? Workaround: - Simply give the move order to the ships that aren't moving. You shouldn't be losing ships or posting on forums for this issue. Resource collectors are loitering around mobile refineries ? Possible cause: - Mobile refinery is too close to a gun turret - Mobile refinery's entry and exit points are blocked by something - Mobile refinery is under enemy attack - I've had this happen to me twice so far, but minimum amount of micro and paying attention prevents this issue altogether. ? Workaround: - Give the damned thing some breathing room! Strike crafts are stuck or split after combat and refuses to move ? Possible cause: - Squad might've been divided while attempting to do a dive bombing on a frigate or a capital ship - Some members of the squad might be "stuck" in another ship (this happens more often in corvette vs frigate scenario where corvette rams the frigate and gets stuck there until destroyed) ? Workaround: - As rare as this issue is, there's no workaround for this one. This also happens sometimes in default Homeworld2, so I'm assuming this is an inherent bug and cannot be fixed without somehow rewriting the engine. Lighter strike crafts will break free or drift towards each other and free themselves in few seconds but corvettes will have a more difficult time being combat-capable unless them or the enemy is destroyed. Heavy corvette squads fly around doing nothing ? Possible cause: - They are attempting to attack a more nimble opponent - Some members of the squad are stuck (though other ships halt and wait for their comrades when they're stuck, some heavy corvettes such as Daughters of the Wind or the Hiigaran light frigates tend to fly around not shooting anything) - They were given a new order and stuck on regroup loop ? Workaround: - Give them a move order and wait for them to regroup - If some of their members are stuck, you can only wait and hope that they smart it out themselves. As I've said before, it's quite rare for strike crafts to get stuck and that 1000 RU won't bring a great depression to your fleet. |

Here's some additions to the above nicely compiled list before I sell myself in roleplay *gasp* at drowtales.com. After all I'm bored and need -proper- company. Frigates commit suicide by charging at superior enemy forces This is due to the default AI attack setting for FF class vessels in PDS, made this way as the other option, having them engage from a static position, is not satisfactory for those assault frigates intended to be employed as super-fighters in their own right. However in PDS one can work around this by manually directing the frigates via the waypoint command (W key). This function of basic mission planning allows you to use FFs in screening capital ships, strafing enemy targets and keeping them out of harm's way. This is also applicable to highly maneuverable cruisers like the LiirHra class, which is best employed as a fast raider under waypoint command. |
