noob here to try your patience... please forgive my terrible questions...
locutus12
hi all, this is my first post here Smile ive seen pds over the last 18 months but for some reason i never bothered with it thinking that the EX mod was all i needed, how wrong i was IWS

after i saw the trailer vid, i had to get it, but i have a couple of questions as im not sure if i have installed it incorrectly or its just the way its meant to be...

firstly the unit limit seems really low??? i can only build 1 battleship before my options turn red, and all im left with are cruisers and carriers, and i can only have a max of 10 capitol ships?

secondly is research, the adv research module was already built so the only thing to build was an ordinary research module which gave me only 1 research option ??

third is the module systems...
on the shipyard you can build a capitol class facility yet the capitol class ships are already available?

and there are a couple of other modules mixed in with the ships that are always greyed out and dont give me the option to build them, i think its the line formation module or something like that, and another one further down.

and then when i try to play the single player campaign, it lods up the first screen which should be a back view of that huge station and just sits there. is pds for multiplayer and skirmish only?

i am sorry about the noob questions, i did as much searching as i coul and found answers for other questions i had but these i just dont know.

1. Yes, PDS is meant to have low caplimits for task force level battles. You can change them yourself, but that's not really a good idea unless you have a really good computer.
2. The limited research is meant as simply aquiring plans, not "discovering" new tech.
3. The available ships are special, 1-of-a-kind ships.
4. The PDS campaign should get up to level 5. Not sure whats wrong here.

All of the above answers are subject to chamge- I could be completly wrong on any of them.

Go to the "Unitcaps" file in your HW2 folder.

(Should be something like "C:\Program Files\Sierra\Homeworld2\data\scripts\unitcaps")

i did that and altered the numbers in the various files but it hasnt had any effect on available units during multiplayer or player vs CPU. Sad i even removed the entire folder to see if it had any effect and the game just ran with its normal unit limits Sad

any ideas?

DarkShaman
If you remove the folder, the game loads the data from the .big file.

Not sure why altering the numbers doesn't work. Sad

EDIT- go to http://hw2.tproc.org/wiki/TutorialUni...alUnitCaps for more info.

As for the frozen campaign, I had a similar problem. I tried to play the vanilla campaign and it loaded fine. Then it just sat stuck before the cutscene stuff. Eventually, I reloaded Homeworld and the v1.1 patch and the problem was fixed. Might work for you.

The reason that you see only the back of Tanis and are unable to do anything is because you are missing the Animatics folder that is initially present inside your Homeworld2 data folder. You probably deleted it or something, so I suggest you reinstall homeworld2 again.

Most of the reserach options were meant to be pre-researched. In reality, you don't go to a fight with nothing prepared. That's like going to the battlefield with scientists and researching machine guns from scratch.

As for capital ships, some ships are available without research because they are "available for battle". You can call them in from hyperspace to fight for you. They are units from other parts of the system that are free, and if you need reinforcements they will come to you for aid. That is the idea behind the automatically buildable capital ships.

If modules are greyed out, then they are already built, I believe. If not, then it is probably just to seperate normal capital ships from "lineships".

I hope that helps. :)

Hmm, really, PDS is designed to have instant battle ready ships out of the wrapper. It's not much of a RTS.

Same for NGCS which is Harpoon-wannabe in space.
