I want mecha!
enterprise
when we can try the first beta?
to boldly go where no one has gone before

Well....

For the Gundam --> PDS (personal test!) conversion, it's really damn complicated. Not only that, it screws around with a lot of the main stuff that, if it dies, will render the game unusable.

Therefore, the alpha - not even beta! - might not be released for another few months. My sister and I (:rol: Pfft) have to work out some bugs with the system.

I don't mind a Gundam PDS for those who are enthusiast of the Gundam series, but I sure hope that there the mainstream PDS will retain its current methodology without all the flying space people. Don?t get me wrong, if the majority (or Lord Tel?der) decides to include Gundam in the main effort that is fine, that is the way it goes. I just personally find it less than desirable.

I agree. I would really really start to hate this mod if it went the direction anime/mecha. I was okay with the "real life military" simulation, and I actually thought it was going somewhere...however, the moment a gundam or something that rediculous enters the battlespace will be the moment PDS dies.

Hey, since this is possible, is there room for an original mecca mod to be created? One that would 'borrow' concepts but be designed entirely different from the ground up? (such as story, races, 'the conflict', mechanics, ect)
I'm not saying a HW2 Gundam mod wouldn't be fun, but it's not as creative has gotten to. Although it is an improvement on the macross Do you remember Love mod for HW1 that flopped.

:sigh: The constant Gundam/anime references are, un/fortunately (it depends on your views) made in jest. Something to be taken in "jest" therefore is not to be taken seriously. You don't want me to be funny anymore? Okay.

Now - it's no longer a matter of whether or not you want things in PDS because they look "cool" or if they're "uncool". I feel that you're eloquently saying "Gundams + PDS = suck" when you say that you don't see how they'll fit into the battlespace.

This is just in there as a sort of test, really, to see whether or not mobile suits are actually combat-capable units in the 5G battlespace and onwards. The use of ion weaponry and pulse weaponry is merely a simple idea.

Therefore. There are NO PROMISES as to whether or not we will have real combat armors - not even mobile suits or Gundams, take note! - in PDS/NGCS.

Now, back to the point quickly: Don't say that you don't want things or you do want things because they look cool. Think about the combat potential. I do not want to have to dig through all of this "waaah I don't like it take it away".

If giant robots could dogfight at a velocity of 10km/s and pull 20-30Gs in a Newtonian battlespace, then surely they will be included in PDS. From an engineering standpoint, a ship is far superior than a mobile suit in this Newtonian battlespace, thus rest assured the suits will stay in PDS fiction as specialist close assault and static defense assets employed for such as spacedock security. Power armours in the PDSverse, or larger ASCAs are strictly mechanised infantry units and to date no 10 meter tall mobile suit exists in the PDSverse for one reason - ships, aircraft and vehicles are more efficient than a do-everything giant robot.

Now, lets talk about the Gundam mod.

NGCS is a fully modular battlespace modelling system that brings lifelike combat performance to the Homeworld universe table. To compare it with past TCs or mods which are far less complex (but of higher quality and more creative than PDS-NGCS) is an issue of apples and oranges.

With adaptations made and leeway given for sci-fi mecha/gundams, it is the perfect way to bring visuals of the Gundam TV shows into the format of a 3D space combat simulator. No, it isn't realistic in the format of PDS, and I don't intend it to be. It is however, very entertaining to see a rendition of a Impulse vs Chaos Gundam duel with all the mobile action from the shows.

Therefore, NGCS is not just a development for PDS, but it also has very strong deployability in any TC mod for the HW2 engine. It is not just a enhanced PDS battlespace but a fully modular ruleset for space operations based on RL physics and psychology.

Thus, the moment I see another defeatist comment like this that fails to take into account that we are always part of the Homeworld 2 Community (that is very adaptable and able to make any sort of TC a reality), is the moment you "disappear" from this site.

Do I make myself clear?

OK, I'm now content with the Gundam business; nice clarifying speech, Tel, not that I should've needed one. (It was reassuring to hear you mentioning their impracticality.)

Carry on, folks.

That is indeed reassuring.
