A supermonitor scenario
Phoenix
How bout a scenario that follows how the supermonitor survived the defeat of its battle group. Maybe the Arlean starts with a few units, a fighter wing and a harvester, something like that, and some remaining RUs from after the battle, and must fight its way out of the remaining enemy carriers by rebuilding a strike force with which to extricate itself, the VGR meanwhile have the goal of securing the planet, thus are probably looking to confirm the arlean defender's defeat.

any good?

Well firstly wouldn?t an attacking force focus its attention of removing the strongest and most deadly ships in the defence first? Unless it has poor intelligence, (unlikely since in this scenario it is attacking a planet-probably of a large importance due to presence of battlegroup) it would jump into the system knowing precisely what to take down and what to expect. In this case its goodbye any ship capable of troubling the invading forces (in the case of a planet we will need occupational troops and other heavy machinary that doesn't really seem to fit into the small compact VGR ships, meaning we need large but vulnerable transporters.) such as any supermonitors.....

Unless the VGR are willing to let the supermonitor to go (no that?s just stupid ? it will reveal the attack to the HGN) or simply the supermonitor managed to flee into hyperspace (wait forgot there?s inhibitors?) or by sublight acceleration into a nearby nebula and throwing off waves of ships eager to bring in a huge kill (yes these ships are very* fast?.and conviently there's a nebula nearby.) Most likely is that this scenario will not happen, the supermonitor will be targeted first and destroyed.

Right, only chance of survival would be if the comanders knew that the defence of the planet was futile and decided to focus thier defensive forces on the enemy inhibitors in order to alow the largest portion of the defending fleet to escape destruction or capture, andreturn to fight another day. Depending on the number placeement and type of inhibitors this may not be possible. But according to the supermonitors backstory, something akin to that happened.

Only way of it escaping would require it to anticipate that defeat was inevitable and prepare an escape plan the instant the VGR attack. Then it is simply sacrificing some ships to destroy the inhibitors and jump away.

Another way is probably if the VGR wanted to capture the ship intact and accidentally set it loose so that it has a greater chance of capturing it?..Shock

A bit of correction on this, if the taskforce knew the planet was undefendable it would probaly adopt a scorch earth tactic and destroy anything of worth on the planet. It would probaly be good to make the planet uninhabitable and deny the VGR a major base.

Then depending on the situation it would either retreat or with resources permit have reinforcements come in and ambush the incomming invaders. The scenario can then be taken from this point, a Hiigaran ambush managed to destroy all the attacking forces but at great cost to their fleet, a sole small taskforce centred on the supermonitor managed to survive and the aim is to get out of the system and escape the VGR forces streamming in..

Its feasible, need to ram out the deatils though
