Keep an eye on it and see how it plays out. I belive, as you pointed out, all the stuff PDS has currently is grandfathered over to "The PDS Community", which we quite obviously are, as well as both Siber and Battlecry allowing use of their stuff. As it sits I'd like to simply distance ourselves from any sort of inter-mod drama. Too much of a drain. Unless of course it becomes a major issue across the community. |

Awful thread, people using it to throw mud at others. I guess the only actual IP question for the mod is getting permit from original ship designers (Patcom, LiirHra, and so on) to change their 3d models and textures for HWR. We better know this before starting work on those ships. |

My sentiments exactly. Take note of who's doing the mud slinging for future reference, but otherwise it's best to distance ourselves from others' drama. You bring up a good point though. Fundamentally haven't the original ship makers basically given us permission to do what we want with the resources currently in PDS? We've been changing stats and load-outs for years, where is the fundamental difference between that and retexturing them? What were the terms of their original submission? More importantly, can we even get in touch with the original makers of the equipment? It raises a whole lot of questions, really. |

I can tell what is the established guideline in the other modding communities I have been active for the last years (car racing simulations): consent to use one of your 3d/2d works and consent to modify them are different things. You must have the authorization of the author to change his work. I have made a couple of cars from the ground up and put them in other modders' hands for physics parameters and so on. They can make any changes they want to their part of the work and I have not my say about it. However I would be upset if they changed something on the model without asking me first. I may wish to do it myself or check what they do is not unsightly. When new ships were contributed to PDS, authors knew that Tel and squad would rig them and re-rig them ad nauseam, but changing their work ie the 3d/textures is another story. I think that requires permission now if they did not give it back in the days. |

We would have to go through posts in the Archives to find if they did, at any given time?

Any idea how bad it would be to basically put in the credits section that due to the time involved the credits list may be incomplete and that if someone is missing or would like to discuss what is being done with/to their content to contact us, inclusive of requests to remove their content? |

If we remember who did what, we can at least send them an email to check if they are fine with us detailing their mesh/texture up to HWR standards. If the email bounces back or if there is no reply then we can dig into the archives, but there is probably little to find as those deals are made in pm/emails/im. I suppose Warman1's solution is ok in practice, assuming original authors are unlikely to get fussy about works made many years ago. As a last resort, we can always remake the ship. |

As far as my IP goes, feel free to toss the old Gundam badges I made into the new version, though I havn't updated them for Remastered (or even investigated if they need to be upated). |

Warman1's solution might be the best if nothing else. Stuff like the Avenger, Patcom, Liirhra, Shamshir, etc all date from the Penguin Mayhem days. And I'm not sure even the archives we have here are on hand. Furthermore, I'm not privy to any of Tel's past dealings. I don't think any of us are. Remaking ships is our option of last resort, although the custom ships we have are sort of iconic in a way... |
