The Mac version of PDS has been having some difficulty running custom game types in PDS such as Starship Duels and Scenarios. The game quits while loading "LoadScarScript". I've found others who have had this problem on the internet and it has to do with a SCAR ERROR. Since the Mac version doesn't seem to output an hm2.log when it crashes, it is difficult to tell what the problem is exactly. I think it might be the map from other sources. if you know anything about Scar Scripts or the like, please respond to this thread. |

Unfortunately, unlike previous problems I've encountered with using HW2 mods in the mac, I can't figure out what a scarscript is, and the crashlog doesn't provide anything hopeful looking: Thread 0 Crashed: 0 com.aspyr.hw2 0x00379ccc lua_type(lua_State*, int) + 76 1 com.aspyr.hw2 0x00247320 LuaConfig::ClearFunction(char const*) + 64 2 com.aspyr.hw2 0x00246888 LuaBinding::Obj::~Obj [in-charge deleting]() + 88 3 com.aspyr.hw2 0x00454510 std::__vector_deleter 4 com.aspyr.hw2 0x0029015c LuaRuleSystem::~LuaRuleSystem [in-charge deleting]() + 236 5 com.aspyr.hw2 0x00243208 __destroy_global_chain + 60 6 com.aspyr.hw2 0x0022c6e0 exit + 52 7 com.aspyr.hw2 0x002e0724 dbFatalfAux(char const*, ...) + 612 8 com.aspyr.hw2 0x002a4de0 Scar::StartScript() + 224 9 com.aspyr.hw2 0x00220e14 GameInit::StartupScarScript() + 52 10 com.aspyr.hw2 0x000215d0 initStartupSystems(InitList*, void (*)(int, int, wchar_t const*)) + 176 11 com.aspyr.hw2 0x002213e8 GameObjInit::Initialize() + 40 12 com.aspyr.hw2 0x001252c8 GameObj::StartGame() + 360 13 com.aspyr.hw2 0x00084440 AppObj::Transition_StartGame() + 256 14 com.aspyr.hw2 0x000841f8 AppObj::DoTransition() + 120 15 com.aspyr.hw2 0x000845fc AppObj::Run() + 140 16 com.aspyr.hw2 0x002793f0 Plat::App::PlatWinMain(void*, void*, char*, int, AppInterface*) + 128 17 com.aspyr.hw2 0x00003848 main + 2264 18 com.aspyr.hw2 0x00002bbc _start + 392 19 com.aspyr.hw2 0x00002a30 start + 48 It looks like it's crashing while destroying some LUA stuff, which could be a programming error more than a mod error. Sorry for the double post, but I figured out the problem: The mac port of HW2 has a problem with the function SetStartFleetSuffix when a variable is passed as the argument. For example, in the file duel.lua I changed "SetStartFleetSuffix(startf)" to "SetStartFleetSuffix("duel")" and it worked. Blame a bad port for this bug. Edited by Kanashiili on 26-09-2005 03:33 |

I will amend the file accordingly for v7.0 release. Thanks. |

Perhaps the SDscenario .lua file should be amended with "SetStartFleetSuffix("scn")". This fixes the bug in a similar way, but has the effect of starting every hiigaran scenario with a hyperspaced carrier - I don't know if that is correct. Also, there was a bug with the main menu in the 6.1 release, disabling the profile submenu. I fixed the bug by changing this line in the newmainmenu.lua: onMouseClicked = [[\n UI_SetNextScreen("UserProfile", "NewMainMenu");\n UI_SetPreviousScreen("UserProfile", "NewMainMenu");\n UI_ShowScreen("UserProfile", eTransition);\n ]], by onMouseClicked = "\n UI_SetNextScreen("UserProfile", "NewMainMenu");\n UI_SetPreviousScreen("UserProfile", "NewMainMenu");\n UI_ShowScreen("UserProfile", eTransition);\n", I don't know if that syntax is ok on PCs though. "scn" unitcaps is correct. All except IVF should start with a CV in scenarios. |

Kanashiili, Very good job! Where did you find that that function doesn't work? Thank you very much! Edited by voyagerd on 28-09-2005 23:07 |

Tried that on PC platform and didn't work - it crashed on load when I did the aforementioned amendments. |

Looks like us Mac users will just have to hand-edit it. It's not hard to do, hopefully people will look at the forums before giving up and find out how to do it. edit: Oh, you're talking about the main menu. Well, if I recall correctly, the Profile button in the mac version just doens't work anyway, so no big deal.

I'm making a patch for people who don't want to edit them themselves. Tel can post it where he wants. |

Thanks, voyagerd ![]() Perhaps you could include the main menu profile fix too. I agree that the bug is no big deal, but it is a bit annoying when playing a SD scenario or the Vaygr campaign. Btw it would be easier and more RP friendly if those scenario/campaign included pre-set colours. |
