As inspired by Elukka over in the shoutbox, I've been thinking. Why don't we start playing PDS online? Now, I know PDS isn't optimised for Online play, as players with the .zip version often have diffrnet things installed or have modded something already ingame, and HW2 won't work online unless both players have the EXACT same files. One way I think we can get around this is if we'br both using .BIG files, everything should work using the .big version. I base this assumption on several times where I sucessfully played the FXmod, which was using a .big file against numerous players while I had a modded (had created several custom startingfleets, added units to the newduel, and duplicated myself a carrier with a custom name) PDS .zip directory installed. So unless there is some MASSIVE coincidence, or there is another unforseen variable in there somewhere, then the same principal should apply here. So, I'd like to know definitively, would this infact work, if not, is there another way to get it to work, and who would be interested in taking PDS online? |

I'd play.
I am the Alpha and Omega, the first and the last... the beginning and your end.

well, iron...PDS is a huge game. sending that kind of data over Internet would cause a lot of fucking lag. Tried it once....nope dont do it. |

Quote PDS online? Yes! Sajuuk, i don't know. I played version 6 i think with a friend (against a couple of AI opponents), both of us had relatively low-spec computers and not that awesome connections. There was lag but it worked fine. I'm sure there are other games that are more of strain on your connection. I don't see a reason why V11 wouldn't work. Edited by Elukka on 13-10-2007 18:22 |

v7 lagged like hell, but the guy i was playing with was on another continent. In the Uk i think. it depends on what network(s) your running through. standard hw2 operations dont take much bandwith to send data. PDS multiplys the amout of operations done by the engines. it depends on alot of things... |

Provided the connections are fine and both computers are able to handle PDS offline fine, it shouldn't be an issue. |

You may need to use modified starting fleet files for balance reasons. To expand on this, the HGN starting fleet has ALWAYS been ridiculously better than that of the Vaygr, and will no doubt need to be tweaked accordingly (delete all the free frigates and corvettes, replace the AMC with something more appropriate, and you're good to go). I may or may not toss some appropriately modified files up if you can tell me which version you're using. Edited by Berrik on 09-12-2007 00:04 |
