The Old Ships
DeathReaperBob
Chances are this has already been answered but I didnt know for sure nor could I find it... in any case, I just noticed that in the last release, alot of the old ships (i.e. gun corvette, pulsar corvette etc...) were... well named as such. Considering that all the new ships in PDS have very militaristic designations as well as class names ie Prince of Higaraa.. i was wondering if the old ships like the pulsar corvette would get such designations and class names. IMO, it just seems nicer and more consistent. I know its superficial but whatever lol

TelQuessir
You just volunteered to name them for me. Do so, I'm waiting Smile

MarieHawke
(You forgot this line: )

Or do you need some proper motivation? Smile

I could help out a bit - I just need my copy of Jane's Fighting Ships of WWII and we're done.

DeathReaperBob
im really lost with ship dessignations (i.e. the BB(X)D or whatever lol...) so I dont think I'll be much use there, but I'll come up with the name "names" gladly... just to help me out tho, did u actually use real words from a foreign language for the ship names or just make up something that sounds good with everyhting else?

EDIT: Im obviously refering to the non-English names like Majirrian... otherwise I can just use English names for the other ships too...

EDIT2: I lie... ship designations are in Hiigaran Navy Manuel... I presume you will simply use those...

Do you need some proper motivation? It's only two corvettes. Use English names.

But not Flower please Smile

DeathReaperBob
just two corvettes? i thought there were some fighters that had no names. thats how it is in the Hiigaran navy manual neways...
well here are some names... feel free to change/delete/accept the ones you like or dislike. or if u want me to come up with new ones... i can do that too.

Tactical Scout [FTR] ? Seeker
Light Strike Fighter [LFS] ? Banshee
Gunship Corvette [CTE] ? Striker
Pulsar Corvette [CTE] ? Nova
Monitor Defense Platform [MTR] ? Sentinel

(couldn't use my big capital ship sounding names with strike craft lol... Sad )

I like Banshee for the LSF.

Pulsar will have to be named something else as Nova in Spanish is... Smile Striker is something more appropriate for a attack frigate, I think.

The old armed mobile refinerys have also been removed from the active order of battle. A Herald class escort frigate is simply, much more capable.

How bout Longinus for Pulsar? Or Halberd if "uniquely Earthian cultural names" are a no no. And for the gunship... perhaps Fury, Valkyrie, or Wraith but I keep thinking of fighters with those names... or maybe Sentinel since the Gunship really is only good for escort and shooting down fighters and missiles... (wow finding good names for an outdated piece o crap corvette is really hard!!)... Loki, Myrmadon, Aeolus... if u dont like a single one of those... well give me a bit ill think of some more... but thats some other ones off the top of my head right now.

MarieHawke
Banshee is already copyrighted for a fighter - everyone will think we're ripping off Halo. ::slaps::

Halberd should be used for a capital ship - probably one of the Weapon-class ships (cough).

How about the Aegis or the Impulse?

YES. IMPULSE.

TelQuessir
Fine. Mr Hawking - you just volunteered to name the LSF Smile

DeathReaperBob
wow cuz ripping aegis and impulse from gundam seed isnt the same as ripping banshee from halo lol

EDIT: btw, last time i checked, u couldn't copy right a generic word like Banshee or even Aegis or Impulse for that matter... you can copy right a specific vehicle like "The Banhsee from Halo" but thats different from the "Banshee from PDS" or "Banshee from Warcraft" or "Banshee in ancient mythology," and the Homeworld ships sure as hell arent anything like the Banshee's from Halo.

EDIT2: I also think Halberd isnt so fitting for capital ships. While the Halberd may have been a relatively large polearm, it was also sort of a "peasant" weapon. Halber doesnt really have the glory and majesty in its name as would say "broadsword" or the destructive implications of names like "cleaver" or "zweihander." Actually, if u think about the halberds purpose and then the pulars purpose, i think the name fits quite well. THe halberd was really an anti-calvalry weapon, designed to give small infantry the ability to take down imposing knights and such. Likewise, the pulsar was designed (though now outdated) for the purpose of attacking larger vessles like frigates. In such a way, I think a Halberd is quite a fitting name... then again I don't make the decisions here lol.

So get out a more unique name. You've 2 days before I do it myself Smile

DeathReaperBob
if ur intent on dumping banshee for the LSF, then my new name is arbalest.

MarieHawke
SSSSSSSSSSH. It's A.) not as obvious and B.) I didn't even think of those. ::whap::

TelQuessir
Arbalest - too obvious, already used in other sci-fi universes.

DeathReaperBob
Im going to give you a list, so I don't flood the thread with one line "How bouts"
Reprisal
Pandemonium
Oblivion
Gladius
Katar
Horus (Yeah I know its not englihs)

Inert
Gunship (CTE) could be Palindrome. Awkward name I suppose, but the word is catchy. It is also more or less logical, seeing how the Gunship has two identical gun turrets on both the top and bottom sides.

Pulsar (CTI) could be Luminant. (Light-related would be nice)

LSF (LSF) could be Mage. (I derived this from the Somtaaw Acolyte)

DeathReaperBob
at first i thought u simply misread my pandemonium as palindrome... but apparently not. as catchy as palindrome may sound... i dont think we want to name a warship after "a word that is spelled the same backwards and forwards"... its like naming your ship flower... lol

the light idea... perhaps the "Aurora"

Mage is little too generic... (i dont even know how you derived it from acolyte seeing as how acolyte means servent while a mage is simply a magician) on the other hand... we have a carrier named sorcerresses.... so DISREGARD THAT! ^^ still, a LSF named mage... seems a little sluggish to me........ OOOOO what about the Harpie?

MarieHawke
Acolyte means a learner/student.

And if you name your ship the Harpie...

Oh, look, Tel.
