It took this initiative to get you to that moment in your modding career, Daniel...

Out of the top of my head, from what I remember reading yesterday, I am still your Janitor, Host Provider, Online Resources Manager and, somewhat, Moderator. Whether I will be able to fiddle around with .big file installations I can not say yet.

I am obviously older, wiser, decrepit, and all that but still in for a laugh in a tight community.

Lets rock this boat... Howdy

Hi, back after 8 year (?) hiatus.
I have not written a line of lua script since 2007, but got used to modeling/unwrapping/texturing 3d models.
I gave away my copies of HW2 to friends' kids years ago so HW remastered and pds mod will taste like a new game.

Hello Homi! Iron! Sun Tzu and Daniel!

It is good to see the Mod breaking parking orbit. I have crawled out from under the moss covered rock. Far older (I was ancient even then), I will be happy to do what little I can.

Welcome back man... I should be here more often, but it goes a week or so between occasions sometimes.

Yeah know what you mean. I honestly had the site in cold storage and saw it and thought I would check it out. Looks like I missed the excitement by a couple months.

Typhoone
Salutations;

I'm Typhoone, a long-time Homeworld player and modder. I've played PDS for HW2 since early version 6 and built several individual and total-conversion mods on the HW2 engine inspired by the PDS team and their work. With the release of HW:RM I am inspired to return to modding for HW - and I could think of no better home than the PDS community. I submitted a request to join the PDS discussion boards a while ago; after being approved and finding the time to write this post I wanted to provide a formal introduction to the other members of this community.

I am a traditionally low-level developer that used to work in guidance/control systems in aerospace, and also have worked as a software engineer for open-source Linux telecom infrastructure. I have always had a hobby of playing Sims, War Games, and Space Opera themed RTS/4x games. The Homeworld series is very near and dear to my heart. When I first encountered PDS, I was excited about the heavy 'military-lore' that it brought to the HW universe, and the heavy-hitting combat mechanics it added to the traditional slow-burn of HW gameplay. Moreso than the TFS/Complex/ReArm/etc mods, PDS did this with a better and more professional polish and remained my favorite.

I had a small community of HW players that we would often play LAN, and my HW modding career began with sub-modding PDS for use in LAN gameplay and Player v. CPU skirmishes. I never published my mod work, it all exists in old hard-drives. Eventually, I experimented with and developed substantial amounts of scripting work to build my own personal multiplayer mod. Some examples of complex scripting work I have created include:

*AI build, attack, and personality scripts
*Custom UI work redrawing build/research/launch windows, formation displays, resource overlays, etc.
*Addition of multiple resources, and second-stage resources (e.g. refineries, command points)
*Multi-path/multi-dependency research tree and build scripts
*Armor-subsystem customization component based on angle-of-attack, and armor-class type-of-attack
*Match-persistent unique ship-naming overlaid on UI
*New formation attack scripts for strikecraft dogfights
*ReHOD'ing of models to create subsystem nodes
*Point-of-control gamerules and in-match network gameplay mechanics (e.g. hyperspace gate networks)
*And countless amounts of element-scripting: new and re-hashed weaponfire, fx, ship, subsystem mods, etc

I'm not a modeler or a texture person, but a very competent and creative scripter and appreciate a good amount of lore-writing also. I'd like to put my hat in the ring to be a part of any PDS remastered work. I love PDS' take on the naval-military lore and the point-defense systems themselves have always been the 'shock and awe' of what HW can be. Big firefights with lots of tracer-fire, multi-role strike-craft, thematic fleet management, and so much more. I agree with what has been stated on this board that version 6 was probably the best place for PDS to have a chance at making the jump to HW:RM.

There are a lot of great mods coming down the HW:RM pipeline, with some great developers and amazing art contributors. There are some really unique ideas out there and I hope the community is open to being a major player in the mod community once again. Taking from and giving back to such work. In September it's estimated we'll see HW:Complex Remastered hit the community, and a lot of GBX patch-work is involved in supporting some impressive features that HW:Complex innovated in the HW2 engine. I've always seen PDS as more innovative in what it did with the role of ships and gameplay than TFS, and I've always found the lore more engaging than Complex.

If you'll have me on the team, I'd be happy to contribute towards PDS:RM - I have the skills to implement some pieces of greater vision that the community members have always had. I also have my own well of ideas and experience and happy to find a home for that in this community. Most sincerely;

Typhoone

The more the merrier! Though things seem like they might have slowed a bit.

Wow! Great to read all of the work Typhoone. Our challenge at the moment is getting everyone back up to speed. Honestly all I did was some of the back story stuff... And try to keep the originator from running everyone off. We will need to see if any of the other artist are around to assist.

Thanks for the warm welcome - I've got a personal git repo I have been archiving a lot of my old project work and setting up some new ones. I could explore migrating it to something publicly hosted if we want to create a safe development space that others will contribute to. I'll post some thoughts in other relevant threads.

That is impressive, Typh...

Indeed. I was getting to the point where I figured PDS was DOA. Welcome to the team, Typh.

Technical difficulties have slowed things down on this end, but I'm still mostly kinda here!

Krnt
Hi,
I'm Krnt, like many of you I was fan of PDS since the first time I saw it back in 2006, and it inspired me into modding Homeworld 2 and since them I have keep on that. I was invited by Typh, because I worked on improving LeTsunZu's Ship Test Duel Gamemode (with permission) for the mods I've worked on, and I was asked to make it work on this mod, since its a pretty easy job I would be happy to help you with anything else.

My current project is the Homeworld: Past and Future Mod, there you can find most of the work I have done recently (link in my signature), also I've worked in the Homeworld REMASTERED Homeworld 2 mod.

Ironwatsas
Well howdy! Funny thing, I was just browsing that mod in the workshop 5 minutes ago Grin

Welcome aboard!

Typhoone
Awesome - hi Krnt! Did you get the ship test game mode working in Remastered? I'll be online Steam for a little while, I am trying out Past and Future right now - so cool!

Typh.

Krnt
Yeah, I got it to work last night with almost no issue, I had to disable one weapon in the Vaygr destroyer that was not present in the weapons folder for some reason, I left some notes in the revision update with more detail.

Also thanks for testing my mod, I have seen in other threads that you were looking for a method for selectable squadron quantity, or at least disable or enable them, you will find that implemented in my mod, and I can work that here too.

I would be happy to help you in any other thing you need.

yasotay
This is great!! Another person to make PDS what it was. Very glad to see you here Krnt.
