The PDS Nalthorans have never had extensive documentation and have lacked the attention Watsas feels they diserve. For future referance (But more for the Hell of it) I'm starting this thread for discussion and theororization of the Nalthor. Who knows, maybe when we're done with the Taiidan/Kush in v11, the Nalthor could possibly find their way into PDS? Anyway, here goes. *** ---BIOLOGY--- Nalthorans are a nonhumanoid race of amphibians native to Nalthor, a swampy tropical world south of modern day Karelia. They are further devided into three main subspecies, commonly reffered to as Castes. The Xai'in or Worker Caste are generally frog like in apperance and stand on average 1.56m Tall when fully grown. They have no skeletons and are supported by cartilage and a system of fluid filled bladders. They commonly fill the ranks of laborers and workers in Nalthoran society and commonly wear full body strength-enhancing synthetic muscle suits equipped with filter masks which convert atmosphere into pure oxygen. While the Xai'in can breathe unfiltered air just like a humanoid, the Pure O2 enhances the Xai'in's comperatively poor physical strength. The Khee'shin or Warrior Caste are more resembelant of Insects then the Worker and have hard, bony exoskeletons with flat, triangular heads. They also have claws on their hands and forearms, a remnant of their carnivore roots, and wings in an apposable carapace on their backs. They fill the ranks of the Nalthoran Military services in a variety of combat roles, and given their ability to fly, are valued as mercenary infantry. The L'anlih or Legislative Caste are the politicians, leaders, military commanders, and decesion makers of Nalthoran society. They are Salamander like in apperance with long, muscular tails and stubby limbs. They can walk upright useing their tails as balance and are powerful swimmers. More importantly, they are significantly more intelligent then Worker or Warrior castes (Though the Former two are generally as intelligent as the Average Taiid or Hiigaran). All of these castes are evolved to survive underwater and have special organs to process both salt and fresh water into oxygen. Nalthorans, despite their relitively advanced technology (Roughly equal to that of Hiigara) perfer simpler lives swimming in their native swampland and hunting small fish, crabs, lizards, and rodents in the same way their ancestors did. The Nalthoran Queen is an artificially evolved L'anlih which is the de-facto leader of the Nalthoran Nation and the only member of the species capable of biological reproduction. In the past, there were dozens, if not Hundreds of queens leading individual Hives or Hive clusters. Though more recently, political changes and genetic slowdown have lead to only a single queen at a time (The Nalthoran population is further augmented by cloning or artificial procreation). A Nalthoran Queen can live for several centuries, even millienia under ideal circumstances, and maintain power over the Entire population (though they make few political decisions and only those pretaining to the Nalthoran race as a whole.) ---HISTORY--- Prehistory (-30,000,000 PreGSY->600,000 PreGSY) Nalthorans first evolved as small oceanic frog like creatures about thirty million years Pre-GSY. These ProtoNalthorans lived in a shallow planetwide ocean on ancient Nalthor, making their homes in Coral reefs on on small islands. Their hive mentality first appeared during this point where they would cluster together and hunt shrimp and starfish. At the time, they were prey to primitive Sharks and eventually moved onto land about -12,570,000 Pre-GSY. During this time, solar activity began to decrease and Nalthor's oceans gradually froze at the poles and contenants began forming as a result of normal tectonic activity. Nalthor was still covered in shallow oceans, but tropical islands covered in forests of Palm-like trees and fern-like plants were taking over. ProtoNalthorans had a headstart and managed to adapt to coastal living, and over the next million years moved into the tropical forests. These forests eventually became dense jungles, and the ProtoNalthorans were integral in this, providing food for the Increasingly large Reptiles and Arachnids that were becoming prevelant and feeding on primitive mammals. Nalthorans gradually became larger as a result of Oxygen levels on their homeworld increasing due to the forestation. Eventually, ProtoNalthorans ranged across much of the surface of Nalthor, inhabiting rivers, ponds, and lakes all across their world. About 11,000,000 PreGSY, Nalthor's orbit changed and the planet became hotter. Much of the remaining water melted, flooding Nalthor for about ninety thousand years, causing Nalthorans to begin to re-adapt to Aquatic life. By this point, Nalthorans were predators to be reconned with, tending to hunt in large packs, attacking schools of Fish, solitary sharks, even small whales, and living in coastal coral reefs or rocky outcroppings. Eventually, Nalthor's oceans dried up somewhat and continents became more prevelant once again. Nalthorans, now somewhat resembeling the modern Xai'in, moved inland into the Tropical Jungles, hunting in packs and competing with the large Saurian species' now dominant. Nalthorans at this time had thick teeth and claws to hunt and kill prey, and were reasonably fast land hunters, despite being mostly cartilagenous. Around 9,700,000 PreGSY, a large Asteroid or Comet impacted Nalthor, causing a mass extinction. Nalthorans quickly became top of the Food chain, as their compeditors died out. Nalthorans eventually became oppurtunistic scavengers, feeding off carcasses and also began eating fruits and grasses to supplimate their diet. After the Impact's ill effects subsided, Nalthoran range had decreased to mostly in the equatorial regions of Nalthor, where Steppes and Grasslands permiated with ponds and rivers were the geologic mainsday. Nalthorans were still predominantly water dwellers, but were proficient at going on land and hunting Mammals and Arachnids. Their Pack mentality had become a Hive structure, and the Queen system began to develop, Nalthorans now clustered arount a Hive Queen and protected and hunted for her. Nalthorans at this time were still nonsentient, but were developing tool use, useing branches to construct primitive shelters and as clubs to better their hunting skills. Around 7,500,000 PreGSY, Nalthor went into an Ice age, causing Nalthorans to adapt to cold weather. Nalthorans Quickly learned to use Animal pelts for warmth and caves or Rock clusters for shelter. When the Ice Age subsided, Nalthor once again was flooded, and the Nalthorans re-adapted to semi-aquatic life, though the Oceans quickly became swamps and Nalthor and the Nalthorans began resembelling what they are today. But this species would need one more event to occur before they would become what they are now. Emergence, 600,000 PreGSY->2000 GSY In 600,000 GSY, Nalthor was discovered by the early Progenitors. Thiey were seeding life across the galaxy and Nalthor was a prime cantidate. The Nalthorans, the dominant Species at the time, caught the attention of the Progenitors, and were eventually Biologically modified into the castes we know today. The Progenitors intorduced numerous foreign species, such as Bears, Elephants, and River Sharks into the Nalthoran Environment. Nalthorans eventually learned to cope with these new creatures, but the toll on their common prey was great. Nalthorans faced extinction for a time, before the Progenitors introduced them to Agriculture and taught them how to grow crops like Xhyla Fruit, Zhakja, and Progenitor introduced Cranberries. The modified Nalthorans once again flourished and began worshiping the Progenitors as 'Chu Jalinhak' or 'The Providers'. After the Progenitor Civil war however, The Nalthorans were once again on their own, quickly forgetting the Progenitors and maintaining their agrarian lifestyle for a few millienia. The Nalthorans eventually began advancing technologically, and their baser instincts took over. Nalthorans entered their bronze age and began developing Swords and Bows. Nalthoran Hives began infighting and establishing large empires as they advanced. Within a thousand years, they had developed gunpowder and other advanced technologies, and continually infought for territory. After about 123GSY, The Nalthorans had carved out several large empires ruled by a single queen, with a number of princesses and royals ruling indavidual providences, a system which remained in use until very recently. Nalthor was at peace, for a time. Nalthorans began building Railroads, mining iron, smelting steel, building wood-burning steam engines, and building large Blimps and Derigables for commerce and military uses. SpaceAge 2000GSY->5400GSY The Nalthoran's first recorded contact with an exoplanetary species aside from the Progenitors came around 2000GSY, when scouts from the early Tobari Empire came across Nalthor, and quickly acertained Nalthor's technological status. By that point, Nalthor was well into it's industrial revolution, and was generally replaicing Steam power with Fossil fuels. The Tobari were quickly overcome by their fear of another potentially advanced alien race (As they were already at odds with the T-MAT) and, after several years of preperation, attacked Nalthor in full force. Nalthor was caught off guard and had barely developed fixed wing aircraft and automatic weapons, wheras the Tobari had Nuclear bombs, primitive Chemical Lasers, Hypersonic intra-atmospheric aircraft, and experiance in orbital bombardment. Nalthor's largest empires surrendered after three weeks of fighting, though some isolated forces fought Gurella campaigns for some time afterwards. Tobari occupation would in the end prove highly benificial. The Nalthorans became a Vassal of the Tobari and within several months had formed a unified government, with only a few splinter factions and rogue states resisting. The Tobari granted Nalthor much of their technology and the Nalthorans began exploring and Colonizing their stellar systems. Eventually, the T-MAT gained the Upper hand against the Tobari and the Empire collapsed (Eventually to become the Turanic Raiders), though by that time, Nalthor had reverse-engineered most of the Tobari technology granted to them and had begun expanding on it. Still, there were many Nalthorans who were fed up with the Government's totalitarian rule and willingness to collaborate with Aliens. Inevitibly, Nalthoran offworld colonies began to rebel, and many Gurella fighters on Nalthor still fighting in the wake of the Tobari Invasion The Xenocollaberation conflict also weakened Nalthor's young government, as many factions now saw the recently discovered T-MAT as a threat. The T-MAT at the time paid little attention to Nalthor and only sent Isolated patrols in to occasionaly mine asteroids or perform strategic recon ops. This changed when Rebel Nalthorans attacked a T-MAT battlegroup, and while the T-MAT were successful in defeating the Nalthorans, they were now angered enough to deploy several Sweeper fleets to destroy Strategic targets such as shipyards, mining facilities, and Key planetary installations along Nalthor's Borders, showing complete Indiffrence between Rebel or Government forces. Nalthor was utterly unable to resist, but this brief war only lasted a few weeks before the Bentusi intervined. The Bentusi had determined Nalthor's Importance as being an optimal trade route between the Shkemhet colonies and early Taiidan Empire, and the Kingdom of Sajishana (Now Defunct) and Bentusi worlds (Now within Hiigaran space). Nalthor was given an offer, In return for Advanced Technology, and Bentusi overwatch and protection of it's core worlds, Nalthor would cease all hostilities toward the T-MAT, open it's borders to interstellar commerce and allow limited mining operations within several rich Beryllium deposits. Nalthor agreed. Furthermore, they began the initial construction of a new orbital colony in orbit of their homeworld. This was initially going to be an orbital trading port and shipyard, but would eveolve into an Icon akin to the Hiigaran Mothership or Hyperspace Core Trinity. This station was called S'rah Ku'oni, Heaven's Gate, by the Nalthorans, but it would be more commonly recognized the Galaxy over as the Port of Nalthor. War of Sajuuk, 5978-GSY to 6121-GSY During this time, the Galaxy was beset by a war between the Unbound races and the larger 'bound' factions, The Hiigaran and Taiidan empires, among others. While Nalthor had no involvement in this conflict, it was present during the Unbound's formal surrender following, and was one of the founding members of the Galactic Council. By this point, numerous remnants of the Tobari and Sajishana (Who were defeated during the Unbound War) were now forming into small pocket empires, which were beginning to infight among one another and with the Nalthor. This began Nalthor's long history as a peacekeeping force in it's galactic region. Nalthoran forces began putting down revolts, protecting trade lanes, and mediating isolated conflicts. From this, Nalthor developed a space warfare doctrane putting large manuverable vessels and swarms of fighters capable of rapid responce to any potential threat. This proved effective when the War of Sajuuk broke out. After repeated attacks on the Part of the Hiigaran Empire, The Nalthorans mobilized alongside the Taiidani and, while seeing only limited action, proved integral in the Hiigaran Defeat. After this, Nalthor became one of the Races that voted to Spare the Hiigarans, which lead to their exile to Kharak. At that point, the Port of Nalthor had become one of the most recognizable landmarks in the Galactic inner rim, having been added to and expanded over the Centuries, it was now the seat of power for the Nalthoran government and a Trade hub of unrivalled perportians. Even the Galactic Stock exchange was briefly headquartered here, before moving back to Triistara. Nalthor would continue to gradually build onto the Port of Nalthor, which would soon become the largest economic trade hub in the Galaxy. Golden Age 6121 GSY -> 6949 GSY Nalthor greatly benifitted from it's pre existing Relations with the Taiidan and Bentusi, and while they were generally a peaceful race, fought constantly with the still numerous pocket empires in it's Galactic region. But for the most part, there was peace and prosperity. Nalthor colonized hundreds of worlds and soon became a major peacekeeping force for the Galactic council, operating Jointly with the Bentusi and T-MAT, as well as other members of the council. Nalthor did experiance a few minor internal conflicts and ploitical disagreements, provedencial rulers disagreeing with each other, bickering over economic prospects, and simple political subterfuge ebbed and flowed around the Nalthoran government. It was around this time that the Nalthorans gradually adopted the 'One Queen Rule', that is that only a single Queen would be the absolute ruler of Nalthor, with a minimal amount of other legislators taking on the mundane tasks of governing the Empire, plus a few 'Breeder Queens' to keep population levels steady, but with little to no political power. While this eased internal stresses which might have lead to civil war at some point, the Single Queen was quickly eclipsed with the problems of governing a stellar nation. So, a comprimised, streamlined system of government where the Queen would make the 'big' racewide desicions and Legislators and Breeder Queens would have singular rule over individual star systems, as opposed to Nalthor being devided by thousands of bickering Senators and Governors. These System Legislators would have power over single star systems, but would answer directly to the Queen or her Senate Council, made up of handpicked Nalthorans experianced in politics, who would answer to the Queen. Individual Nalthorans had little to no Say in the Affairs of the Government, save local issues within a City or sometimes entire Planet. Most Nalthorans were content with this, as their Hive mentality synched up with the new Style of government. Despite this, there were many Galactic Council politicians who called this Government 'totalitarian' or 'despotic'. Despite this, the Nalthorans were content with themselves, not needing to bother with meddeling in political affairs. The Great War and Following, 6949-GSY -> 8451-GSY When the War between the Frrern Aggrigate and Taiidan Empire heated up, Nalthor dispatched forces to intervine, along with the T-MAT and Bentusi. Although technically Allied with the Taiidani, the T-MAT had sided with the Frrern and Nalthor was at odds with the T-MAT and Taiidani. The situation quickly deteriorated and Nalthoran forces, confused about their alliances, fought their former allies, on both sides. There were even reports of Nalthoran forces fighting other Nalthorans, which lead to a political showdown with the Galactic Council and political stress at home. The Nalthoran Queen Virlk'hrai took drastic measures to insure that this would not tear Nalthor's government apart. She hastily pulled all Nalthoran Forces out of the Frrern theatre of operations, against Galactic Council orders, and had several Legislators removed from power or arrested. This prevented the situation from Degenerating further, but utterly destroyed Relations with the T-MAT and severely hampered those with the Bentusi. Following the Taiidan Victory in the Great War, Nalthor found itself at ever increasing odds with the Galactic Council, though Queen Virlk'hrai assured the council that the situation could not have been prevented. Towards the end of her reign, she signed several treaties with current Taiidan Emperor Iolon, thus bringing Nalthor under the wing of the Empire. When Iolon died and was suceeded by Iolon the Second (and even before that), Much of the Nalthoran population feared that Nalthor would be forcibly annexed by the Empire, as had been much of the Frrern Aggrigate and Federation of Cush. While the Nalthoran population had little say in these matters, circumstances had begun changing. The Nalthoran Government was slowly unravelling and the Nalthor was becoming increasingly corrupt and totalitarian. This changed when Queen Khenaniji came to power. She had been a charismatic leader and saw what was happening to the Government. She took several steps during her brief reign to elimenate Corruption by giving the Nalthoran Population more say in political matters, without restructuring the Government. Her sucessors would give further voting rights, even the ability to vote in a new queen, to the Nalthoran Public. Discord 8451GSY -> 9025GSY By the 8450s GSY, Nalthor had healed the wounds caused by the Great war, and had reclaimed it's status in the Galactic Council. It's military had been slashed by budget cuts as a result of a Galactic Recession. Nalthor tried to ride it out by taking steps, including hiring out it's own military as Mercenaries, to attempt to ride it out. With Nalthor's aid, the Galactic Economy recovered, and Nalthor began expanding into the Karelian sector and areas now occupied by the Federation of Cush. It was during this that the Nalthorans were called in ti assist the Taiidan Empire in 'security operations' against the Cush. While Nalthor participated little here officially, it'd mercenary fleets, now operating under the Cush payroll, did begin peacekeeping operations against Turanic Raiders in the Southwest regions of Cush. When a Nalthoran Battleship destroyed a Civilian transport, carrying a Galactic Council ambassador to Cush for Peace talks, mistaken for a Raider missile barge, the Council went into an uproar. Nalthor was hit with sanction after sanction, mostly by the T-MAT, and recieved so much bad publicity, that the reigning Nalthoran Queen was forced to step down, the rest of her 12 year term was filled by a Galactic Council elected puppet leader. This lead to endless resentment by the Nalthoran population and caused some planetwide riots to break out. Elements of the Nalthoran military were put on alert to quell the uprising. The Taiidan were even threatening to Annex the Kishir Rin territory north of Ezra Alanti, further alarming the Nalthor, who lacked the Military Funding to put up much of a fight. Fortunately perhaps, fate had other plans. In 8720 GSY, military forces of the Kassi Regime launched a shock offensive into the Federation of Kush, Northern Nalthoran colonies, Karelian Sector, Turanic Wastes, even as far south as Kadesh and Tassngard. This caught the Galaxy completely off guard, and if it had not been for the hieghtened state of alert as a result of Nalthor's wrongdoing, the Invasion would have swept through the Galaxy unopposed. During the initial invasion, the Kassi overstretched their supply lines and were quickly isolated in pockets of occupied territory, including that of Nalthor's nothern inner colonies within Karelia. The Kassi also lacked the immense technological advantage they have today, and were eventually overwhelmed, barely, and forced into armistice. Unfortunately, hundredsof worlds were occupied (Utterly devistated, if not completely ripped apart or knocked out of their orbits) by the Kassi, and the following chaos did little to ease the situation. Nalthor's military was utterly anihallated and billions of innocent Nalthorans lost their lives. To make matters worse, Turanic raiders, many small pocket empires, Isolated Kassi remnants, and rogue T-MAT were harassing Nalthor. With it's only defence being unreliable Turanic Mercenaries or Kheninjal (Nalthoran Pirates sometimes hired as mercs), plus the damage incurred by the Kassi had disrupted Nalthor's economy worse then it has ever been, Nalthor began looking to outside help. The Imperial Taiidan, now ruled by newly crowned Riesstiu IV were still cleaning up the mess incurred by the Kassi, as well as trying to subjigate the Cush and Frrern, agreed to clear Nalthor's malfactors, for a price (Several ajacent territories with large mineral deposits.). Nalthor Reluctantly agreed and eventually rebuilt it's military to part of it's former glory. New Frontiers, 9025 GSY -> 9110 GSY Nalthor was now rebuilding in the wake of the first Kassi war, and despite being in a new era of prosperity, having for the first time in a long time, nearly total Galactic Council support, even from the T-MAT (Who's leadership had undergone a radical restructuring, leading to the end of a very long line of 'flawed' Codexes), and undisputed, if balanced on a knifeblade, economic superiority over it's former self. Nalthor's core systems were, however, becoming overpopulated and overdeveloped, and with tensions between itself and the Taiidan ever increasing as a result of Riesstiu IV's comprimised mental state, Nalthor needed breathing room. Several star systems west of Karelia and far south of Kush, which were relitively unexplored and unclaimed, would be the site of Nalthor's expansion. The Nalthoran royal military began sending expeditions into the area and found quite a few habitable worlds capable of supporting large scale colonies and industries. With the aid of the Bentusi, Nalthor colonized the 'Shandil Cluster' as it was named by the Bentusi, and for a time, had undisputed ownership of said territory, but this soverignty would not last forever. Around 9067 GSY, the Nalthorans came across a Gorrila-like species which they called the Ti (Litterally 'Apes' in Nalthoran). The Ti had established a small interstellar empire, but were constantly infighting with one another on a level never before seen. The Bentusi tried to intervine and pacify the Ti, but were immedietly met with extreme violence, even destroying a few Tradeships, abeit at losses greaty by an order of magnitude. From the Bentusi's star maps and logs, they mapped out the Nalthoran territories, and launched often suicidal and unprovoked attacks and raids against Nalthor's outer colonies, as well as the Federation of Cush. Nalthor responded with a Shock and Awe campaign to disrupt the Ti's capability to force project. This backfired with the Ti launching suicidal attack after attack, despite their disorganized nature and primitive technology, until eventually they exhausted their space forces completely. The Nalthoran and elements of the Taiidan navies then swept through Ti space unchallenged and blocaded their worlds. The Bentusi once again tried to negotiate, but were always met with violence. Eventually, they gave up and ordered the Nalthor and Taiidan out of the sector, and declaired it a Level 5 security zone, much like the Gardens of Kadesh. No military or civil space traffic was allowed in or out, save the occasional T-MAT scout mission. The T-MAT blocaded the Ti's border regions and for a time, Nalthor's northern space colonies were safe. Khenaniji Day war, 9110 GSY -> 9172 GSY By the early 9100s, the Nalthor had fully recovered from the Kassi war and were now a military force to be reconned with once again, a necessity when dealing with the newly cloned Riesstiu IV the second. Nalthor was trying to keep it's conflicts with the Taiidan on the negotiating table, but it couldn't hold back the Emperor's demands forever. So the Nalthor began exploring military options, even plotting to 'remove' the Emperor or incite a rebellion, though Nalthoran royalty paid little heed to these contingency plans. Though the Nalthoran Government DID take reasonably drastic measures, it signed itself into a so called 'shadow alliance' to fight the Taiidan Empire if needsbe. This alliance included several nations that would be potentially threatened, or otherwise have intrest in seeing the Empire fall. These included, but were not limited to the Nalthor, Federation of Kush, Frrern Aggrigate, Varlen, Kingdom of Niliri, and T-MAT. All would launch a untied Military responce against the Empire if hostilities resumed, though the Nalthorans at least faced a far more immediet threat. On the eve of the Nalthoran holiday of Khenaniji day, in honor of the Nalthoran Queen of the same name, the Ti, who were supposedly contained by the T-MAT, launched a coordinated and fierce attack against severall Nalthoran colonies. Simultaniously, Ti backed insurgents launched simutanious bombing and sniper attacks on Nalthoran deligates, military officials, and even the Port of Nalthor itself. Fortunately, the damage was contained before any royalty or high ranking officials were injured. Nalthor hastily struck back, with aid from the Federation of Cush, attacked the Ti homeworlds in an attempt to disable their abilities to make war against the Nalthor. It should be noted that No T-MAT blocade was present. When the Nalthorans entered the K'thi nebula, they found not a disorganized rabble of hyperviolent suicidal animals, but a well organized and co-ordinated military force, capable of keeping the Nalthor on the defensive for over a month before finally running out of resources to fight with. While officially, the Khananiji war ended there, Ti insurgents continued to raid Nalthoran colonies and facilities up until the Vaygr invaded and occupied K'thi, over five centuries later. The Nalthoran military and economy took a serious beating, but survived intact and would have surged ahead, but the Galactic Council had other plans. In a judicial fluke, and possibly deliberate sabotage on someone's part, Nalthor was charged with violating a Level 5 SecCon zone, and recieved harsh economic and military sanctions. That combined with dwindling natural resources within Nalthor, lead to a financial depression the likes of which Nalthor had never seen before. Arl-Coutl Invasion, 9172 GSY -> 9204 GSY Now in severe Financial decline and with it's military becoming outdated compared to the rest of the galaxy, the Nalthorans were forced to look into alternitive sources of income. Taxation and attempts at reforming the government to democratic Socialism failed miserabally, this was further compounded by the Shuav'k pandemic sweeping the Karelian Nalthoran colonies. Now running on empty, Nalthor desperately sought raw materiels to pay it's debts. The solution was right underneath their metaphorical noses. The region known to the Nalthorans as the Kethaj Pocket, an area of three closely packed stellar systems fifty lightyears south-east of Nalthor, had gone ignored since the days of the Tobari. Nalthor had found the area too difficult to access given it was surrounded by highly radioactive nebulae and turbulent asteroid belts. However, when the Nalthorans began exploring the region in the 9170s GSY, they found several navigable pathways into the pocket, and once inside, they discovered a bounty of rare minerals on planets and asteroids throughout the sector. While Nalthor initially was keen to rush in and claim the new territory, there was one obsticale standing in the way. A terrestrial society of Humanoid Lizards reffered to as the Arl-coutl. While they lacked all but the most basic spaceflight and were still locked in a global corperate superstate civil war, they were a detrament to Nalthor's efforts to colinize this region of space. This is because standing Galactic Council law prohibits intentional interferance with emerging races unless circumstances (I.E. said race's agression toward outsiders or Territorial disputes, which all must be validated by the Council before action is taken) provide. However, Nalthor was aware that very few if any Galactic Council races knew about the Arl-Coutl's existance, as they had barely evolved sentience at the time of the Tobari. While backdoor political campaigns still raged, Nalthor's government kept the issue a closely guarded secret, and began dispatching troops to the Arl-Coutl homeworld. Their mission was to defeat and occupy the Arl-Coutl governments and corperations, useing the Arl-Coutl homeworld's existing infrastructure to act as a base for mining missions nearby. The Invasion was intitally sucessful, with the Arl-Coutl only possessing primitive Nuclear weapons and Propeller Aircraft. Nalthor managed to land troops across the planet's equatorial deserts and force their way toward the Major population and Industrial centers. However, when they reached the Mountainous regions, they found that they couldn't fight the kind of war they were used to (with large mobile Tank and Mecha divisions backed up with highly mobile shock Infantry) and were bogged down. The Arl-coutl, however, had been fighting one another in this region for centuries, and began gradually pushing the Nalthorans back into the desert. By this point, news of the invasion had leaked, but the general cover story of the Arl-Coutl being a vassal of the Ti and raiding Nalthoran core worlds held up for the time being, though public support and monetary funding were quickly drying up. Eventually, an armistice was declared. With both sides in a stalemate, and Nalthor lacking the overwhelming industrial capability of the Arl-Coutl conglomerate, Nalthor signed a lasting treaty. In return for reperations and technology, Nalthor would mine select sectors of the Kethaj Pocket and the Arl-coutl would be granted soverignty. Within several centuries, Nalthor and the Arl-Coutl became close allies, with the Arl-coutl bolstering Nalthor's economy and Military with it's immense industrial output, while the Arl-Coutl profited through trade with numerous Alien races, through the Port of Nalthor. This alliance eventually made Nalthor a full blown star empire, superceding thet even of the Tobari in it's day. Tenitive Peace, 9204 GSY -> 9510 GSY After the Economic boom following the alliance with the Arl-Coutl, Nalthor once again went through a period of prosperity, abeit marred by the advances of Taiidani Emperor Riesstiu IV the Second, growing anti-government sentimate, and the continued agression of the Ti. In 9212 GSY Nalthor's government was once again restructured, for a number of reasons, not the least of which was the Galactic Council's increasing lack of motivation in galactic affairs. Nalthor would now only have a Single Queen at a time, who's reproductive cycle would be augmented by cloning. The Nalthoran public would vote on various issues, local or minor ones taken up by the Legislators, major ones by the Queen herself. This ushered in an era of prosperity, where Nalthor's economy bloomed, it's diplomatic ties with the Cush, Frrern, and Riesig (Eventually to become part of Elyassia) were at an all time high, and most importantly, there was peace. This peace lasted for some time, with the occasional Nalthoran intervention in local Galactic affairs and peacekeeping or humanitarian mission. Even the largest war between the Arl-Coutl invasion and the Homeworld war, the Second Khenaniji Conflict in 9408 GSY, was by anyone's standards very minor, lasting only a few months, with very few casualties on the part of Nalthor and the Arl-Coutl. Though following this, things began to unravel. The Taiidan Empire annexed and enslaved the Ti, and from there was poised to grab Nalthor's northern colonies, as well as those of southern Cush. Negotiations kept things in line, but when Emperor Riesstiu disbanded the Taiidan Assembly of Lords, Nalthor lost it's only voice of reason, it's only way of communicating with the Emperor. Nalthor once again turned to it's 'Shadow alliance.' By this point, Taiidan had begun Annexing territories of the Frrern and Varlen, and had even exacuted deligates of the T-MAT within Taiidan space. It was obvious that a war was coming, as the Empire had closed it's ports and begun moving troops into Taiid-Nalthoran borderlands. While the Alliance's military strength was formidible, it paled in comperison to the crack forces of the Empire, who were in most cases better equipped and trained then the Alliance. Even the T-MAT lacked the strength to fight the Empire to any extent, and diplomacy was out of the question. However, Taiidan rebel factions were already becoming visible, and had been useing equipment from the Arl-Coutl for years. Nalthor capitalised on thie and began covertly spreading propaganda and supplying militant Taiidani. Eventually though, a causus belli, and undecided strategic advantage, presented itself. Homeworld War, 9510 GSY -> 9525 GSY When the Taiidan burned Kharak, the Galactic Council and the majority of the Galactic population was furious. Riesstiu had crossed the Line, and within days of their learning, the Galactic Council ordered a united responce. Diplomacy was gone, and a Galactic war was now inevitable. The Empire responded with an all out invasion of the Frrern, Cush, Varlen, and Nalthor. Despite their military being split across numerous fronts, the Taiidan proved far superior both Numerically and Technologically, and reached the inner Nalthoran worlds, before Nalthor could stall their advance. Fortunately, the Kushan exiles and Taiidan rebellion would kill the Emperor and destroy his regime before Nalthor was overwhelmed, and Many Imperial navy regiments inside the Nalthoran theatre of operations surrendered outright. Following the War, Nalthor turned it's attention to Hiigara, where the newly returned Exiles would recive humanitarian and military aid from Nalthoran expititionary forces. This lead to Nalthor having a lasting alliance with Hiigara and paved the way for trade agreements. Militarily, the Nalthor was still busy cleaning up the Empire and assisting the newly formed Taiidan Republic both militarily and economically, As well as stomping out Turanic insurgents across their domain. Throuout the Taiidan Civil war, Nalthoran expiditionary forces would operate alongside Republican units up until around 9517 GSY, when the Republic declared itself stable and Nalthor withdrew. Pax Nalthoria 9525 -> 9615 GSY Nalthor had little involvement in the Beast war, aside from isolated skirmishes and some lend-leased equipment to the Taiidan Republic and Hiigara. Following this, Nalthor once again provided assistance to Hiigara as it rebuilt and expanded. Nalthor too had grown, now occupying former territories of the Taiidan Empire as far south as New Chennai and North as Nord Breisgau. Though this did bring Nalthor into conflict with Elyassia in the south, and the Levii in the north (The latter would be incorperated into the Federation of Cush). During the 50 year long 'cold war' between Hiigara and Elyassia, Nalthor would prove one of the most integral parts of the Hiigaran Naval Coalition should hostilities begin, defending the All important southern approaches to Hiigara itself. Fortunately, the 'war' ended before any blood was spilled, and Nalthor prospered once more. Now an integral cog in the Wheel of galactic commerce, sharing borders with all of the major traders, with the exeption of the Bentusi, and profiting greater then ever before. The shilouette of the Port of Nalthor became the very flag of the nation itself, and Nalthor was, for a time, the richest star power in the galaxy. It's prosperity was overshadowed by it's generosity during the Ittar Conflict, inwhich the Hiigaran naval coalition stamped out an Imperialist Taiidan uprising in the Ittar starcluster. Nalthor primarily performed humanitarian operations and provided aid to the struggling Ittar. While many saw this as the purest motives of genorosity, many others saw it as a ploy to gain new profit margins. In fact, many of the era saw Nalthor as a Corperate superstate, run by the Arl-Coutl, several powerful Hiigaran companies, and shady political factions within the Nalthoran government. While these arguements would continue for some time, they would be abruptly silenced by yet another galactic war. Vaygr War, 9615 GSY -> Present The Vaygr, under their self, proclaimed messiah Makaan, had caught the attention of the Nalthor, as they had been fighting with the Frrern for years, but only now were they technologically capable and politically unified to become a threat, due to the intervention of the Taiidan Empire. The Vaygr swept through the Taiidan Republic within lass then three weeks, prompting an unconditional responce from Nalthor. Nalthoran fleets rushed to the aid of the Republic, only to be blunted by the Vaygr blitzkrieg. The Vaygr swept into the Nalthoran heartland, forcing aside the Royal Navy and remnant Taiidani Legionarre fighting alongside Nalthor. In desperation, Nalthor comandeered fifteen crash-modified cruise liners and thousands of other civilian, commercial, and military ships in a massive evacuation of it's home sectors. Tens of millions of Nalthorans were saved from oblivion as the Roval Navy was systematically wiped out. The evacuation fleet, surviving elements of the military, and poarts of the Arl-Coutl conglomerate fled into Hiigaran space. Nalthor itself was occupied by the Vaygr, and many Billions of Nalthorans who refused to leave were killed or enslaved by the Armada de Makaan. Though Nalthor was not lost... With the collapse of the government, the Karelian Nalthoran factions were taken under the protection of the Federation of Cush and continued to fight against the Vaygr. Even more, Nalthor had several top secret Naval bases located near the eastern outskirts of the Great Wastelands. From here, they would rebuild their fleet, while many of their brethren would join the military of Pax Hiigara. When Makaan was killed and the Wrath of the Sajuuk-Khar brought to bear over Hiigara, Nalthor saw it's chance to strike back. Several Nalthoran sweeper fleets entered the Hiigaran system and assaulted Vaygr shipyards, resource operations, and assembley areas. Strategic recon assets pushed east and began reconnisence for what would become operation Sledgehammer. During Op. Sledgehammer, Nalthoran forward operation fleets operationf alongside Sobani TSOGs, cutting Vaygr supply operations and cutting off re-inforcements. After the Hiigaran breakout and counterattack, Nalthoran units primarily acted as rapid responce forces, recon assets, and manuver divisions jointly with HGN and HGNS forces and forced their way out, eventually performing patrol and indapendant operations in Karelia. The Nalthorans have yet to liberate their homeworld, which is occupied by the IVF, but the Nalthoran top admaralty have been very secretive as of late, thus creating the assumption something big is on the way. Yet, the war continues... ---MILITARY--- The current Nalthoran military may be a bit outdated, but is a very capable fighting force nonetheless, primarily useing a manuver doctrane in which small, but heavily armed units can locally outmanuver and outgun larger enemy forces. However, the Nalthorans are not suited to full frontal assaults or situations where manuvering capital ships in space or high speed tank and ASCA divisions on land would not be suitable. In spacebourne combat, the Nalthorans rely on a capital phalanx doctrane, somewhat similar to that of Hiigara, but with more emphasis put on manuverability as opposed to combined arms operations. Nalthoran built capital starships are generally faster and slimmer then Hiigaran counterparts, primarily armed with rapid fire massdrivers and hvpervelocity missiles. Directed energy weapons like Ion cannons or Chemical lasers would be less effective in close asault situations such as the Nalthoran fleet commonly faces, and are used exclusively for capital assault slugging matches or Strategic bombardment operations. Other DEWs like Plasma cannons or Pulse Ion cannons are generally looked upon more favourably, commonly used as the heavier compliment to the small calibre massdrivers in common use. These canbe very effective when mounted in maglev turrets and are used for percision destruction of indavidual subsystems. Frigates play a more indirect role, as strategic beam carriers or fighter tenders, but some are deployed as Skirmishers and strikeraft defence ships in larger fleets. Nalthoran Frigates are generally quite a bit tougher and more manuverable then their Vaygr and Hiigaran counterparts, but aren't deployed as widely. Nalthoran strikecraft are generally well built and survivable, but given their inflexibility, are deployed as manned swarmers acting as a mobile sledgehammer for supporting capitals or making one hell of a distraction for capital ships. Corvettes are primarily dedicated heavy weapon carriers operating alongside fighters, or acting as fire support or strategic bombers armed with Particle weapons and missiles. Some exeption exist, including those purchaced from Hiigara, but they are the exeption, not the rule. Present Objectives Currently, Nalthor stands at less then 30% of it's Pre-Invasion military strength, and is primarily operating under the juristiction of the Hiigaran Naval hierarchy. In this, Nalthoran/Hiigaran joint TFs operate as hunter-killer, commerce raider, and strategic recon units behind enemy lines. Nalthor survived the Vaygr invasion with core military intact primarily due to it's being spread out among various pockets of Nalthoran habitation across the Galaxy. That, plus the fact that Nalthor had built a number of far flung shipyard-fortresses during the 'Cold War' with Elyassia, in regions like the Federation of Kush, Turanic Wastes, and outside the territory of the Karian Hegemony, as well as a number of other locations. This, plus the decentralized nature of Nalthoran population and government meant that Nalthor fared much better then the Taiidan Republic or Frerrn Aggrigatte. However, this does have it's drawbacks. Nalthoran forces and bases in the Hinterlands of the Turanic Kingdoms and Former Elyassian Territory are constantly at odds with Pirates, Rogue Elyassian splinter states, and more recently, Irregular Forces of the Kassi Regime. Their presance here has lead to some controversy, and many belive that Nalthor intends to invade the Turanic Wastes or Annex portions of the 180-270 barrier region of Elyassia. Nalthor has rebutted these comments and officially, their objectives in the Wastern Galactic Region are as follows; "1: To safeguard Nalthoran and Allied intrests in the Western Galactic region." "2: To prevent orginization of Turanic Clans under the Imperial Taiidan banner, resulting in a possible two-front war." "3: To provide humanitarian aid to Abandoned Elyassian, Hiigaran, Taiidan, Turanic, and Indapendant worlds besieged by the Turanic Raiders." "4: To monitor the Agression and possibly open Diplomatic contact with the Karian Hegemony." "5: To prevent the rumored spread of religous Kadeshi extremists and military forces outside the Kadesh Nebula Quarentine Zone." "6: To prevent the presence of organized Beast Infections." "7: To monitor the activities and discover the intent of the Kassi Regime and conduct intelligence gathering operations with the intent of diplomatic resolution." "8: To open diplomatic relations with indavidual Turanic Clans with the intent of creating an Allied Turanic faction." "9: To Continue production of Nalthoran war materiel and High-Tech equipment to fight against the Vaygr." These objectives are generally accepted by the galactic community, but some indaviduals, specifically conservitive Elyassian politicicians, have condemned Nalthoran actions in the region. Though most in the Elyassian government approve of Nalthor's involvement, as it adds another distraction for the Turanic raiders, allowing Elyassia to direct it's efforts against the more pressing concern of the Kassi Regime. Nalthor's current doctrane concerning the Kassi is to avoid military contact when at all possible and attempt to contact and open communications. Realistically, this would be impossible, as the Kassi are too violent and Xeno-Agressive to respond. They may attempt to lure Nalthor into a false pretense of peace, but far more likely will destroy any diplomatic envoy, or non-Kassi vessel for that matter on sight. In the Eastern theatre against the Vaygr, Nalthor's military is primarily tasked with reclaiming their homeworlds, including Nalthor itself. While fully indapendant Nalthoran taskforces are operating behind the Vaygr frontlines, most are attached with Hiigaran units, conducting shock and awe attacks in the Karelian sector and Nalthoran hinterlands. While Nalthor recognizes the IVF as a group hostile to the Crusaders and potentially sympathetic to the Hiigaran Naval Coalition, they are highly intolerant of the IVF presance in the Nalthoran core worlds. They however are on good terms with House Mar'yan in Karelia and the Ravinder Democratic Republic. Nalthoran fleets are currently free to engage Nalthor-Region IVF if any hostile or comprimising action is suspected. There have been recorded cases where Nalthoran fleets have siezed IVF starships of varying size and have conducted surgical strikes on IVF installations across the Ezra Ostanysh badlands. There have also been incedents where Nalthoran forces have rescued IVF ships from Crusader fleets and even conducted joint operations (Citing the Battle of Msta Rift between Nalthoran-IVF forces and the Crusader warmistress Kureir Aniella Sa'keram). Nalthoran forces formerly guarding the colonies near the southern Kush border from the Ti are now conducting agressive strikes against the Taiidan Empire an that region (as the Ti are now part of the Federation, even with absence of Unbound moderation efforts) alongside the Federation of Cush and Hiigaran kiith Somtaaw. These Nalthoran's are mainly tasked with defending Cushan and Hiigaran infrastructure and mining while simultaniously denying access of these to the Empire.
