Manual - Fighting Ships of the Crusaders
zenprime
Tel'Quessir would like to announce that the first of the .pdf shipguides (based on HappySack's Janes Fighting Ships idea) is presently making good progress in the construction stages.

The following input would be welcome:
- Any conceptual writings on Vagyr culture and military tactics (frigate operations for instance)
- Screenshots of all Vagyr warships, in various combat and non-combat contexts. The idea is to have both war and peacetime footage.

All submissions should be highly summarised as this Guide is not meant to confront the reader (yourself) with a barrage of textual information.

Rather, it will be designed as concise as possible.

Attached is a prototype of the format I will use.

This file is an extract of the introduction and almost complete fighter section of the manual. The blank area on the ship tables will contain screenshots and/or concept art.

Have download and will begin a demo / initial draft of Shamshir for review.

The reason for the deevolution of the presentation material is to facilitate faster construction times and trust me, between a online reference guide and a simple PDF or Word document, the simple solution is the superior one.

With the parallel construction of v7.1, my time will be split but the guides will contain updated, state of the art info.

Yasotay - I'll send you the LiirHra Block 17 FDB background and specs later, have a go at it; its your ship!

ps, block 17 is the opposite of the competitor's block 16 proposal, with vastly improved missiles, directed energy weapon, and maneuverability. Functions like a Aegis missile destroyer (combination SM2s, Harpoons and Russian supersonic ASMs if you will) plus some serious direct-fire capability.

Has equivalent of 15x IC300 and 6x IC557 - RagingBlueWing here's a note:

Your PM has a perfect POV on "what we can do" with sci-fi technology and what can happen if limitations are not roleplayed (esp with v7's base of the 21st century battlespace), so I'd like some comments from you on the vastly improved weapon systems and ship weapon layouts in v7.1, if possible.

No feedback means two things.

1. This effort is a waste of time

2. People like giving ideas, and feedback (when pushed) but not make any effort to translate them to practical achievements.

As usual, make your own decisions.

In response to HappySack's feedback, the guide and later renditions for other military organisations will indicate suitability for atmospheric operations and what devices may be employed in orbital bombardment taskings, to expedite roleplaying.

Appologies, was out of town. Have begun Shamshir. Please forward Block 17 data when you can and I will get on it.

People should be able to find a load of IVF ships in my member gallery, see the peaceful ships shots thread.

Guys, what kind of colour scheme would the vagyr use? I suppose some shots would be in an invasion colour scheme, would post invasion schemes differ and how?

Are certain colors culturally significant? e.g. Orks in WH40K have always had a belief that vehicles painted red are faster (Red onez go fasta)

Apologies for seeming to give an idea and then back away from the challenge, RL got the better of me Wink

Aha! HappySacks you've made me think of one of my old ideas. Taskforces Wallpapers, which got shoved to a backburner untill I can scale the dang badges up without losing detail(Must learn how to vector!).

Point was to give individual TF's a color scheme and motto. http://www.military-quotes.com/mottos...mottos.htm Has a nice selection.

I'd picture color schemes for VMF as white with black stripe for a pre invasion scheme and yellow and black for post invasion (lower the brightness level for primary colors to simulate weathering). Red and white or red and yellow are also common variations but only for rear lines and Spec ops. IVF would be Black and dark red or the rarely seen blue and white. other schemes come and go but these are the ones that I'd use for somthing like this.

Now that would be interesting to discuss. To streamline discussion and prevent the formation of a stale conclusion to the topic, I propose chaining formalised unit colours to what role it performs. Note that it serves no purpose but for self-image on a networked battlespace management system - actual, "real life" ships will likely sport matt grey/black non-reflective and radar absorbent plating.

I tend to use a "leather and velvet" dark red and black paint scheme for Vagyr operations, with preferred deployment being the "medium combat group" based around three carriers (one strike, one EW, one fleet CV), three medium cruisers and a squadron of six heavy frigates along with fighter support.

This force employs maneuverability as its main asset, with serious capital scale firepower coming not from individual capital ships but from the coordinated employment of heavy weaponry from the taskgroup's multirole warships (frigates, for instance may complement the cruiser/carriers' bombardment missiles with their own prow mounted launchers under central direction.

For the Hiigarans I employ "battlecruiser squadron" doctrines with carriers playing a dedicated supportive role. Colour scheme here is haze (or "navy") gray.

I've stuck with the default blue on the Hiigarans.

I'll set the colours to be red and yellow and envision that I am fighting a Vagyr\Taiidani enemy force.

usually I configure a Vagyr enemy to be coloured red & white

I'll be taking some shots of the Vaygr ships next. What colour scheme and insignia should I use? I'm commited to making the images I put forward to be added to this document look as authentic as possible.

I've considered trying to rough up the images a bit, make them look like the old intel photos of russian hardware taken in the 80s.

Slightly:topic: random question, why are the carriers and transport ships in the first Hiigaran campaign mission coloured day-glo orange?

My Hiigaran ships are usually gray in color, with even darker gray for the "stripes".

As for Vaygr - I set them as basic tan + darker-than-tan stripes, because I envision them as desert fighters, and, well, tan is kinda deserty. XD?
A starlight sharpshot magical girl!

yasotay
White/white = Hiigaran

White/black = Vaygr

Yellow/red = ImpTaiidan

Yellow/black = RepTaiidan

Much easier for old people to see on the computer screen.

TelQuessir
Yasotay makes a good suggestion for standard IFF protocols.

HappySacks
If everyone is agreeable, I'll proceed full steam ahead getting shots using this colour scheme.

What about the IVF forces?

Black and green banner, in memory of a famous renegade house?

Frankly a colour scheme for the core Vaygr is a very Hiigaran way of thinking Wink

Glacialis
I always liked the default Hiigaran scheme...but white ships do look spectacular.

I know it's beyond the engine by a few AUs, but I would love to be able to have metallic reflections. I want my ships platinum on platinum: I dare you to mess up my shiny paint job! Grin

I'm looking forward to the pictures. My graphical quality isn't the best, but it's not bad either. Would be happy to help take screenshots time permitting...meaning a week from this weekend :-/.

Sent some Vaygr culture material to Tel. May be useful.

Included in the NGCS package linked on the front page is a .pdf manual showing the NGCS test ships in trading card format.

View that and let me know which type of manual format is preferable -

1) website
2) Janes Fighting Ships (this thread)
3) trading cards (NGCS)
