PDS Manual II
TelQuessir
The Manual II effort will be a one-shot, all encompassing effort to provide us with good, and long lasting documentation to the PDSverse.

An example of a ship entry would be something like this:

ROLE

This type of battlecruiser has been superceded in the heavy combatant role by Generation Five (G5) vessels of the same size class.

Surviving Prince of Hiigara class hulls not yet scrapped are deployed as defensive pickets for high-asset-value installations or as training ships.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

VARIANTS

Defiance - Command battlecruiser with expanded electronics outfit and basic industrial manufacturing capability.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

HISTORICAL BACKGROUND

The Prince of Hiigara class of battlecruiser has provided illustrious service to the Navy for the past thirty five years.

While this class of heavy combatant lacks the raw tonnage compared to true battlewagons deployed by other spacefaring civilisations, the "PoH" is a fine balance of firepower, maneuverability and survivability, and is extremely well liked by her crews for simplicity in layout and operation.

The Prince of Hiigara was born in the post Beast Wars devastation, and is often referred to as the father of modern capital ships. Its versatility and ease of modernisation afforded by Kiith Somtaaw developed modular hull technology allows the venerable battlecruiser class the ability to morph almost effortlessly into the Navy's ever increasing need for new warfighting capabilities on short notice.

Her main challenge appeared during the Vagyr Crusade in AHL 109, where the Prince of Hiigara class battlecruiser, although aging, singlehandedly performed virtually all of the Hiigaran Navy's heavy warship roles, constantly being modernised even while underway to match the literally endless technological innovations fielded in rapid-fire fashion by both the Navy, and opposing Vagyr forces.

Now, with our new battleships and battlecruisers leaving our orbital shipyards, this old and weary, yet still very capable combatant may peacefully pass into the pages of history, yet never forgotten as those new ships can only be as grand as they are for the resilience of the Prince against the sands of time.

BCH-119 Indomitable is the last PoH class heavy battlecruiser laid down, and was launched several weeks before the start of Operation Unified Bastion, the Hiigaran Eighth Fleet's sally into the Karelian Cluster in defense of its colonists.

Thus, if you can write in this manner, I would like your contributions. There are a lot of ships to document.

As for the non-ship related documentation I have people already contributing or contributed to those topics so it's just a matter of compiling the relevant information and packaging them on the reference website. Yes, website.

Additionally, here is the background for the Prince's sister class the Defiance command battlecruiser.

Quote

NAME: DEFIANCE
CLASS: CBC (cruiser, battle, command)

SPECIFICATIONS

LENGTH: 800m
MASS (.est): 1 million tons
HANGAR: 5x flights fighters and corvettes

SENSORS: Extended surveillance capability
ECM: Barrage, Adaptive response, and laser jammers
BDS: DF3

ARMAMENTS as on first-in-class blueprints
(Defiance I)

Older hulls of this class based on Prince of Hiigara Tier II hulls had heavy railguns replaced with super-rapid autocannons and proxdet munition arrays.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ARMAMENTS as on latest modernisation
(Defiance IIB)

PRIMARY
4x dual heavy plasma cannons
3x triple heavy railguns
4x dual heavy railguns

SECONDARY
3x dual light railguns
1x dual heavy pulse ion cannons

CLOSE-IN
8x dual point defense autocannons
4x ball mount point defense autocannons
5x dual light pulse ion cannons

GUIDED
2x heavy torpedo tubes
10x medium hypervelocity missile tubes
4x triple standard missile tubes

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ROLE

Command battlecruisers are the electronic nerve centre of capital ship taskforces, and additionally provide limited industrial capacity for the TF, boosting its deep-space endurance.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

VARIANTS

Arelian Defender - Experimental ship, reconstruction of a written-off Prince of Hiigara hull. Operational testbed for G5 defensive technologies with specialised mountings for super-heavy railguns intended for demolition of macroscale constructs and planetary targets. Presently a flagship for special operations forces.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

HISTORICAL BACKGROUND

This command battlecruiser is the forerunner of today's battle-carrier, a jack of all trades fighting support ship combining a battleship's firepower with the utility of a fleet carrier.

Originally based off of heavily modified Prince of Hiigara Tier II hulls, the Defiance class vessels eventually evolved to become so similar to its parent that it was considered a variant of the PoH class; late-build CBHs and CBCs were built off one common blueprint and outfitted differently for the final product.

This breaking of class barriers, not just restricted to the Battlecruiser Fleet, has benefited the Navy by simplifying aspects of fleet management, logistics and training.

Today, the Defiance class is no more. The Generation 5 (G5) Deliverance class battle-carrier is a hybrid of Prince, Defiance, and Arelian Defender classes, performing all their roles at no compromise to ability in each.

You may want to check "Disable Smileys" to avoid any mishaps in those texts...Considering B ) without extra space, makes the : Cool smiley
I edited Your post to that.

Gotcha, thanks.

I have some tech writeups I'll push your way. Very eager to see this comprehensive manual completed; if it's anything like your past Tactical Manual it'll be a joy to read.

Do you want the writer's guide I've been working on integrated, or is that outside the scope of the project?
"This is tactical control..."

I thought the CBC was a one off prototype built upon a crippled Tier 2 POH. It could then be said that based upon it's performance subsequently a standardisd CBC was produced modeled upon the prototype.

revan
It could be said that the CBC came about as the result of continued losses of carriers which were being used in the command role. Due to the inadequete armor of the carrier many were lost as a result of fast moving vagyr swarms. This in turn left the rest of the task force berefit of leadership and resulted in more than a few reversals.

The same can be said of the ship yard which while posessing more than adequete arms & armor was frequently destroyed due to it's inablility to keep pace with the changing tactical situations in which it commonly found itself.

The CBC came about as the result of a particularly desperate commander retrofitting a crippled Prince of Higara battle cruiser with command and control facilities. In subsequent battles this refit was found to be more than adequete in it's new role.

Tsk tsk. If everything were a desperate beginning in RL, we must be doing very bad indeed.

That said I have already documented the CBC's beginnings as the nerve centre of a battlegroup. No further details are necessary regardless of what went into past PDS versions. V7.0 is the penultimate presentation of the late Invasion to early Generation 5 battlespace.

If you wish to write, there are many other ships to choose from.

Could you provide a list of which ships have the proper documentation and which do not?

TelQuessir
I won't do that. It is my intention to receive multiple entries per vesssel class.

Methuselah
This is something I could happily contribute to. My one question is how to discern the armaments of warships other than visual inspection. Should I be looking in the .shp file for the relevant vessel, or is there a master list which can be acessed that you just happen to have sat on your hdd?

revan
But for the two vessels which have been posted up above those have already been finalized correct? What I mean is which vessels are still open to documentation being provided and which are not?

MarieHawke
Nothing is ever finalized - they are in flux, always.

That said, I'm working on a Deliverance report and a Liir-Hra report. Note the use of "a" - I did not say "the" because mine might not be the definitive version.
