Religion?
Sanu-Yasha
I haven't gotten to play through the WHOLE Homeworld game (several times at the computer cafe, yes.) Is there any known religions that are active around the HW and PDS universe?

This has been discussed previously and for what I can recall I only recall that Vaygr were compared to nomadic tribes with a islamistic approach whilst the Hiigaran were more sectarian (houses, clans). I never really took part in that disco (at RelicNews) but that has been my impression. As for others, I haven't got a clue.

We all love Monthy Python though. Cool

Ah, it was inevitable that the religion thingy would come up. I shall crack the seal to the ancient door and take the book from under lock and key.

HomeBoy is essentially correct.

Most of the bipedal protein based sentient? (i.e. human-like) are monotheistic. Most refer to the deity as 'Sajuuk', although there are at several thousand catalogued names for the singular deity throughout the Inner Rim. The fervor of their implementation of the deity varies from culture to culture.

Vaygr are of course nomadic, wandering the Reaches at the edge of the galaxy for millennium. It is rumored that these space faring nomads are an amalgamation of the outcast of the Inner Rim. Outcast by social and military evolutions, they are the flotsam at the edge, surviving as they can and coalescing into a huge semi-feudal society. Because of their 'survivalist' structured existence, they are very stratified in their interpretation of Sajuuk. Thus, the deity is a very real part of the everyday life of the Vaygr men and women. It is rumored that Makaan used the Sajuuksema (deacons of Sajuuk and religious leaders of the Vaygr) to bring many of the vacillating clans into his invasion of the Inner Rim. He did so by exciting the ancient Vaygr belief that a great man would be sent by Sajuuk to lead the Vaygarnama (warriors of the Vaygr) back into the Inner Rim so the Vaygr people could take their rightful place with the other societies.

The Inner Rim societies are much more liberal in their interpretation of Sajuuk. This is due to millennium of inter-cultural mixing, both economically and through military conquest. Because of this, there are many interpretations of Sajuuk dogma. Interestingly one of the most structured and strict, unchanged, religious elements reside in the senior elements of the Hiigaran Kiith. While the Hiigaran society, as a whole, is more polytheistic from the inheritance of a significant Taiidan population upon their return to power, the small (by galactic standards) inner generations of the Hiigaran Kiith that made the Trek from Karak remain more structured in their exposition of Sajuuk and the deity?s place within their personal and social efforts. This does not mean that the Inner Rim societies are not able to allow their religious fervor to get the better of them. Numerous historical events demonstrate that Inner Rim cultures are willing to use their deity as a means to an end. That however is a different discussion.

Of note; the Encyclopedia Taiidanicus undertook a multi-generational full accounting of the Inner Rim religions. However, the families working on the Encyclopedia fell out of favor with the eternal emperor who felt they would degrade his position and importance. In the second millennium of his reign, they would be eradicated or expelled to the fringe of the galaxy. It is rumored that the body of work done by the Encyclopedia was not destroyed and contains significant amounts of information regarding the times before space.

Hows that for fluffiness?

Cool Cool! I was just wondering, since it serves as a basis and is connected to the HW universe. Obviously, since religion always is.

Duh, EVERYONE LOVES Monty Python.
